Thief play style needs mobility on short bow and a tiny bit of utility. Most would tell you every build needs short bow but it isn’t really over performing except maybe cluster bomb damage, but you need at least 1 way to do damage on short bow other wise it won’t be useful. The real things that are overpowered rn on thief, which is not much tbh, is all in the traits- stealth time still crazy and steal can do almost every thing when you trait 2 lines into it.

The thing is shortbow's auto attack also deals too much damage especially since it bounces

  2. I know there are probably a thousand other threads asking for the same thing, but when almost every player of an already overperformating class have the shortbow as a second weapon there is something definitely wrong with that weapon. Not only does it have extremely strong mobility, but it also has an aoe that is an unblocable daze, a dodge and well just tons of damageedit : i'm dumb and don't know how to include a screenshot in this forum https://imgur.com/a/DnsCHDP

  3. @Leonidrex.5649 said:This can really go both ways, I would say that mesmer should have slightly better chances to win, and against medicore power rev you will just 1shot their kitten constantly.Sword dodge can be canceled by stealth, you can set clone. invis and insta burst them.Im speaking from pvp perspective btw, dunno kitten about wvw dueling.Try to condi bomb them when they left glind, and try to CC them in glint, exert fake pressure in glint to get their heal off, things like P4, low clone F1 shatter, autoattacks and axe2 work good. GL!

thanks to you aswell ! i'll try to remember all of that next time i fight one

  4. @Magolith.9412 said:What that person said.

If you are running full dire/tb you have a little lee-way, but if you are running squishy condi hybrid, you have to be really careful.

Most power revs will open with shiro port or sw/sw #5 port (deathstrike). Dodge that and kite. You really, really want to avoid getting hit by deathstrike's 2nd hit.

If they are sword #3'ing on you (the one that teleports them all over the place for a couple seconds), dodge, but be wary of what they're going to try to do after it stops and they're right on top of you. e.g. If you are running staff, it's a good time to phase retreat right after their sw #3 finishes just to get you a little bit away from the rev.

Pay attn to the switch to Glint. You want to avoid the AoE circle facet that pulses weakness & chill, and you want to avoid the double swipe facet that gives them more damage if they land it. If you're kiting well, they should have a hard time landing these.

Oh and try to avoid giving them health when they pop glint heal; That may be more difficult if you're running all condi, but you can at least avoid condi bombing them (again) until after they've popped it and it's expired.

thx a lot for all the details ! tho i'm not sure i understand what is the double swipe facet. And yeah i'm trying to kite but being axe pistol sword torch it's kinda hard maintaining pressure while kiting since i have 0 range (plus the fact that i'm just kinda trash when it comes to kiting)

  5. I've heard a few times before the last big patch that condi mirage was a counter to power rev and I was wondering if it was still the same considering how weakened mirage as a whole is as of now, and how dominant revenant still is whether it is power or condi, so I'm never too sure which strategy I should adopt when facing one (btw I'm wondering when it comes to pvp and wvw, and i just don't have enough knowledge of the rev class to know by myself).

  6. @ZeteCommander.4937 said:To be honest, I have no hope for these developers. They are rotten and unreasonable.I suggest

    1. give back mirage endurance.
    2. Modify ambush mechanism.Infinite horizon changed to baseline. But cloning only creates visual effects
    3. remove the shatter of mirage. Strengthen ambush instead of them. Activate this to make the next ambush very powerful.
    4. f4.Get the cloak and random clone becomes a mirror
    5. f2.Randomly transferred to a clone location and replace it

I really enjoy those suggestions but it could make condi mirage really powerful while not really improving the state of power mirage (which is already really dire, especially compared to its condi counterpart) so more stuff would have to get tweaked

You realize split second (f1) isn't the only skill you can activate during IP right? Within 1.5 seconds you have the time to dry shatter f2 again, and a free charge of mantra of pain. And you can swap mental anguish for vicious expression so the first and second do 15% more, instead of 20/0

Are you confusing Illusionary persona with continuum shift ?

that said purely on a burst perspective chrono is going to burst harder post patch than core (unless giving up domination or dueling for chrono in which case i'm not sure)

For example if you hit two people with your f1 and only one of them is slowed it would not make sense for the second part to be AoE because the target that isn't slowed is not supposed to get hit. That said maybe you'll be able to dodge the second part of the f1 in which case using illusionary wave might become part of the one shot combo in order to shut down any attempt to dodge (which might make people take the trait that puts quickness on shatter so people don't have as much time to dodge the gs5 but i'm conjecturing a lot here)

And the „one shot combo“ is then what? 4 seconds long and needs 6+ skills to be execute. If you use GS 5 for the combo you can’t weapon swap and combo with hydro signet and sword 2... No thanks I take core and burst directly 50% or more health away from the enemy and hope for the best because you know what? I have F4 as core and chrono not. lol

I mean we don't even know is the second part of the f1 damage is dodgeable the combo might be the same as the core one

edit : also i said gs5 but you can probably use sword 3 aswell to prevent a dodge, which lets you swap and sword 2 tho it's a little slower than core

@necromaniac.7629 said:With chrono getting self shatter back i thought MOST of you would have a more positive energy~yikes :# i'll just not interact much on this forum cause its just depressing and bad energy.

the chrono changes are nice when it comes to power chrono (while they did not help condi chrono in the slightest) and i think we can aknowledge that. That said having no self shatter wasn't the only problem with chrono and new problems are going to arise following this post. Mesmer is already really squishy so a mesmer with no access to distorsion is going to be really easy to focus.

You also have to remember that chrono wasn't everything wrong with mesmer as of now. Core mesmer is not great and mirage isn't any better, so just buffing chrono is not enough, especially when some classes such as necromancer and engineer, which were already in a decent spots, are getting considerable buffs for every single of their specs. Core mesmer and mirage are going to continue to be lagging behind, and power chrono, while it is going to catch up a bit, is probably still not going to be very strong due to the lack of distorsion, though we'll have to see. So yeah as a power mirage main i'm not really satisfied as i've not been viable in the last 4 months and it seems it's going to keep being that way. Those changes were not enough for any mesmer that is not a power chrono

I mean they can't fix chrono and mirage or mesmer in general all in the same patch and did you see my previous posts before the one you quoted.

i've answered to your first and last message but not to your second one, so I will just do that here (also look at my previous message while you're reading this one i think it's relevant to what you just said). I think we can all agree that something trash is something that is just plain bad and your comment is actually more in the line of "why do you think those are trash". I personally don't think everything he said was trash (tho to me, the phantasmal swordsman definitely is and maybe crystal sands too) but i'll try to explain anyway.

So phantasmal swordsman is pretty much an immobile phantasm that deals 8 hit in 2 seconds. It deals a lot of damage in pve, and way less in pvp/wvw, even when hitting all of its attack. That said realistically it's never going to deal more than 3 hits to anyone above silver (unless stunned) since it takes so much time for its attack to complete, and people can just dodge or walk away. So it is going to deal around the 2k mark, as an ability that is purely offensive and has a 1s cast, assuming your opponent has a medium amount of reflexes. Doesn't seem any better than an auto attack to me so I'd argue it's trash.

Crystal sands is a competence that creates 6 shards(?) that converge into a chosen point to create a mirror. So there are two aspects in this skill. the shards and the mirror. The shards are irrelevant, considering they have an extremely small hitbox and it is very rare than more than one hit. That only leaves the second aspect of the skill which is the mirror. Now a mirror sounds useful on paper, it's a dodge that slightly damages foes around you and apply weakness. The damage and weakness radius is quite small but the reason why mirrors are not good is because they are extremely predictable. If your opponent is good you cannot dodge something worth dodging with a mirror because he will just see you're going to go on a mirror and just hold back his important skills. So basically crystal sands can only really be used as a .75s where you will be left alone and you can cast a free ambush, which would be pretty cool if you didn't have to give up an utility slot for this. So yeah kinda trash aswell.

So the shatters is the part i kinda disagree with. I do not think they are trash tho i get where they are coming from. All of the chronos shatter (besides the f4 which is different fromthe core) are worse versions of the core shatters if not played correctly. Plus the lack of distorsion which really handicaps the chrono. I think you're really underestimating how essential distorsion is (as it is the only reason why there is still a somewhat viable mesmer build, which is condi mirage with illusion signet to refresh the disto). Mesmer, specifically the power and not mirage one, almost as squishy as a thief and has way less tools to defend itself, the reason why it can survive is because distorsion is very strong so chrono will still be really vulnerable. Played correctly I think it will have potential so that's where i disagree with them, but it will need its team to support it in case it gets focused.

  12. while i'm glad we're going to see power chronos again a bit (even tho it will most likely be one shot chrono so not my favorite kind) i'm really confused about the other changes. What is increasing the number of target to wind of chaos doing ? in pvp it's not going to have any effect, same in roaming, in bus it will be cleansed or reflected, in most open world scenario it does not even hit 5 people usually, and in fractal and raids it will not be useful that often because it is rare that more than 5 mobs are in line in front of you in a situation where you need to kill them quickly. If this is the kind of buff they're planning to do to mirage it's going to be a long time till we're relevant again and even if we get there, if we start overperforming again it will be very hard to know what to address

  13. @Shiyo.3578 said:One shot perma stealth gsword mesmer is still a gigantic issue that is being ignored by the community for some reason. I just got out of a game where the mesmer could one shot me from stealth IMMEDIATELY the second he hit me for 20645 HP and 2029 armor. These were platinum games and not low tier stuff so it's not just a silly complaint. There was no stopping this as the second he unstealthed and hit you, you were dead. No reaction, porting, dodging, or anything could save you as the damage is instant and unavoidable as it comes from stealth.

I'm sorry but if there's is a burst coming from stealth that's avoidable it's the mesmer one

That's all thief has, ele had self sustain and could actually face tank a bit. And guess what, engie/ranger/guard/mesmer/warrior and ele can still be able to get away or run far enough to force the theif to give up. Remember theif relays on Initiative and that's used a lot to chase people down, ware this away and there is very little they can do and most will not burn shadow step (a stun break) to chase down unless the target is pretty much dead already

core mesmer and chrono cannot, unless playing a stealth oriented build. You do not have a lot of mobility as a mesmer if you're not playing mirage

Rune of the defender? I thought we were in PvP section D:

It's totally useless in pvp but I guess it could be good in other game modes. Maybe it should give a longer aegis so we can get it more reliably with persistence of memory.

oh right i mostly wvw but as a roamer, so most wvw posts being about zerg classes i tend to check the pvp forums quite a lot

: There are two suggestions (choose-one) for this trait.1) (My recommendation) Summoned phantasms have 20% more health and spawn with 6 seconds of Retaliation.2) Summoned phantasms spawn with 5 seconds of Protection.

Nooo don't change protected phantasms i need it for my phantasm build :(

It's a bad trait, retal that could come to you would be way better than aegis that might go waste on the phantasm.

It's a bad trait on its own but once you use it with rune of the defender, chronophantasma and persistence of memory it makes a fun build and is of crucial importance

  17. @Stand The Wall.6987 said:uh no, there are plenty of ranged builds except they don't seem that way cuz their 2nd weapon or profession mechanic is melee. they may not be top tier builds but you can do alright with them (plus the added bonus of having fun if you like ranged). options include:power mescore necrostaff tempestdhdeadeyeholo with cc: storm or just regular rifle holoscourge sorta

You need to go melee to deal damage as a power mes tho

@phokus.8934 said:Mirage does need its two dodges but that boat seems lost at sea.

no it doesn't. it's finally not as invuln spam as it was before

You really don't know what you're talking about if you think having two dodges was invuln spamming with less Vigor up time than most other classes.

I know exactly what I’m talking about when weapon skills dodge, utilities dodge, dodge is not locked by an animation, your invuln gives you 3 more dodges, you have multiple stealths, so on and so forth.

I don't really know a single mirage build that used more than one stealth source before the update. There are not many weapon skills that make you dodge, they're on axe and sword but axe never really was used before the update, and sword was tied to power builds, which were not a problem. Our distortion does not grant 3 dodges, it grants 3 mirrors, which are most of the time not conveniently placed and extremely previsible. You can't call that a dodge if you know your ennemy is going to dodge, just don't use an important skill when he's going through the mirror it's extremely easy to counter. And yeah, an utility that teleports you at random and can lead you to your death/put you behind a wall making you useless until you contourn that wall grants you a .75s dodge on a 35s cd, truly op and invul spam. Btw no one is taking sand through glass or crystal sands because those skills are trash. So yeah, you don't know what you're talking about when you're claiming that pre post mirage had invuln spam when it was getting outdodged by 6 of the 8 other professions

Man will I live to see Mirage being able to pick something other than energy? Please Santa, I promise I'll be good this year.

I think it's only getting more essential every patch
