  1. Open World Legendary Armour: Cool, could actually get me playing regularly again. I was never going to raid (what's the point of playing a MASSIVELY MULTIPLAYER game if you're going to limit yourself to playing with only 9 other people?!?), I don't do PvP, and I get bored of wubwub real quick.

Easier Skyscale: Excellent; I already have mine, but I don't begrudge other players having an easier time getting it. The original Skyscale unlock was stultifyingly boring.

More Weapon Choices for All: Well,  Elite specs have been eating away at the idea of the Warrior being the "Weapon Master" profession for aaaggges now, so I can't really feel angry about this, just disappointed. But on the flip-side, more build variety is always welcome.

It will completely throw balance out of the window however. ANet struggle to balance the current amount of combinations, and this will just make it worse.

Runes and Relics: I like the core idea of allowing any stat combination to be combined with any 6-slot effect, but if I have to grind out a legendary relic after I ground out 7 legendary runes, I'm going to be... quite annoyed.

  2. One thing that IS usable from the Permanent Bank Access window for sure is the Black Lion Salvage Kit. This is good when you need to salvage exotics for the materials and runes/sigils.

The Permanent Hair Contract is also usable from the same window if you're lucky to have both. I think the Upgrade Extractor may also be usable from it, but that usually stays in my shared slots bar.

I get a lot of use out of the Resurrection Orbs thanks to Permanent Bank Access. Yes, I have to transfer them out then back in, but the point is, you can still open the bank when you're dead, so might as well!

Another thing that can be useful is that if you open the bank from a crafting station (or the bank itself, but why would you ever do that now you've got perma-access?), you can also open the bank using your Permanent Bank Access, which can make reorganising your bank a lot easier.

I still don't like the fact that this functionality is locked behind an outrageous TP cost or a minutely random BLC drop, as I feel it should be available to everyone, and would be an incredible selling point for GW2. It really is the best QoL improvement in the game, and I honestly don't think that ANet should be putting a price on QoL. It's like they're crippling game functionality for the majority of their users.

  3. I went for Shortbow and Ranged Power DPS / Ranged Condi DPS.

Support's for cowards and people who like to run around the edge of the fight yelling "I'm helping! I'm helping!" 😜

I would also have added another category that we're quite weak in as a profession: AoE.

But to be honest, I'm not even sure it's wise of ANet to continue to associate new e-specs with new weapons.

Rather than shortbow, I'd love to see an e-spec that gives an entirely new set of skills to an already supported weapon, like rifle.

Oh, and if we had a pet option, we should get a pet skritt that we could throw at the enemy, that could grapple different limbs for long-term disabling effects, like hugging the enemy's face would invert their controls, gnawing their arm would prevent the use of two-handed weapons and humping a leg would halve their movement speed and apply confusion as the enemy flails trying to shake the bugger off.

And when not throwing the skritt, it would be a "short-range" pet, always staying close to its master/mistress, and always trying to flank the primary target so they could stab its delicate bits. Low damage with an occasional nasty crit to the family jewels.

And we could name our skritt and call him George...

Edit: And for those who say "How would an Asura throw a skritt?!?", I say "Vigorously".

Game is said to be "horizontal progression" but I find that it's zero progression. It used to have tons of cool things to grind towards, but that stopped after EoD.

It's kinda been that way since release. Making my first legendary way back way, I was disappointed that after I completed all the "interesting" stuff, I was then expected to complete it by grinding for materials (or, as tuned by ANet, converting gems to gold to buy them from the TP).

A lot of end-game items feature a soulless grind component, cynically designed to "encourage" users to buy gold.

  5. I doubt they'd do it, but something that might help shore up the early-to-midgame rewards is if whenever you get a piece of gear that you haven't previously unlocked, you get a free transmutation charge.

Mind you, given that another recent study in the UK is recommending that loot boxes should be restricted to those who are 18 or older (following the lead of Belgium, etc.), I think it may be time for ANet to look at retiring Black Lion Chests and making the things exclusive to them either available for direct purchase in the Gem store, or as rare drops.

Better to get ahead of the curve and drop loot boxes before worldwide adoption of legislation, than to drag your heels and end up looking like someone who is intentionally exploiting children for cash.

This would free up all sorts of interesting things, such as permanent contracts and gathering glyphs.

To make life easier for you instead of pointing to the search bar, the last known reason for no skipping dialogue was that the scenes were “live” and skipping would cause severe bugs in missions including NPCs breaking, pathing issues etc. This was what they had to a lesser extent in gw1 and wanted to avoid. Originally they chose the proper cutscene style in the core game which allowed for it to be skippable, but player feedback was against them and for more natural dialogue scenes. Which until they can find a technical solution or return to old style cutscenes, will remain unskippable.

I loved random NPCs or pets photo-bombing live cutscenes in GW1 😄

Justicar Hablion being all stern and sincere, then some goofy Moa crosses in front of him 🤣

I think that if they made Combustive Shot proc every second instead of every 3s, then Core condi would bench fairly high without needing to take Berserker, but then they've yet to really touch that skill.

Even that is overly conservative. I've gotten used to Harbinger recently, and for condi, it's positively stupid how much better it is than the best condi option for warrior. If you go full Well spec, ALL of your conditions do double damage per tick, and virtually every attack dishes out more than one condition.

    It's ridiculous.

I'm not a necro player by anyone's standard, yet my Harbinger build lets me got toe-to-toe with a lot of champions on my own, and win.

  8. Outside of competitive, I find Core H/MSh to be in a reasonably good place.

But as mentioned further up, our utility skills across the board need some major buffs. Vindicator and Willbender, being directly comparable as they're the other two current "Heavy" profession elite specs, have an embarrassment of riches compared to Warrior when it comes to utility. Almost all of them are attacks as well as providing buffs and topped off with ridiculously low cooldowns. It's like if Bull's Charge was on a 10 second cooldown and granted aegis at the same time, it's that bad.

I still do better with Warrior than with those, but I suspect that's more down to muscle memory and my overall familiarity with the profession. Given a little time, I'm sure I could make a Vindicator or Willbender build that performs better and is more well-rounded than almost any Warrior spec.

Anyways, I always thought that a stat system that isn't based on items/gear/equipment or trait/skill/talent systems are a great idea.

It's how most traditional RPGs did things in the past. Gear would have bonuses, but they would generally be a lot more sensible than the current state of affairs.

For example, armour would have defensive bonuses, and weapons would have offensive ones. Gear that gave flat stat bonuses was pretty much non-existent.

Tying stats to gear is one of the primary tools used in "games-as-a-service", to monopolise the player's time and keep them exposed to monetisation systems.

And in GW2, "The Economy", that which many people have been convinced to hold in the highest regard, relies on balance regularly changing, therefore  forcing players to re-gear or pursue Legendaries, all of which requires utilising the trading system to some degree or another.

And while the majority here will claim it never happens or that they themselves never do it, a LOT of players will choose to bypass the gold grind and simply break out the credit card.

Look, I know ArenaNet need to make money to keep the game going. But the way they've gone about it with the trading post and gear system is incredibly seedy, and displays a lack of confidence in their product to stand strong on the basis of its own merits.

I suspect the game could support itself solely on the sale of cosmetics instead of the system we've got now, but ArenaNet and NCSoft are too invested and/or scared to try any other form of finance at this point.

So we end up with rewards being crap, because the majority of loot must feed back in to the trade system as materials.

We end up with features that should be general quality of life for everyone and baseline game features being ripped out and sold through the gem store instead.

We end up with new expansion features requiring so much material investment that it's guaranteed that a financially significant proportion of the player-base will break out their wallets, all while being dehumanised by the marketing execs who continue to refer to them as "whales".

I myself am not immune to this, and have spent an obscene amount on the game, mostly because I now have significant disposable income.

But a lot of the stuff I have bought, I do feel resentment about, and I do feel should be available to everyone as features of the game.

There's no coding reason why the ability to change appearance at any time should be restricted.

There's no coding reason permanent bank access shouldn't be available to every account.

There's no coding reason that people should have to pay to utilise gear and build templates, especially when the first game did the latter for free.

There's no coding reason why everyone shouldn't have access to a full compliment of shared inventory slots.

The only reason they're limited is so that ArenaNet can make money off of them.

Imagine the good will from the community if these features were all available to everyone without having to pay!

Imagine just how generous and innovative GW2 would look when compared to other MMOs!

They have features which have similar utility, and which are available to all players, and which other MMOs don't have already, like the ability to deposit materials to the bank from anywhere.

If all QoL features like this were available to all players and not just the rich or lucky few, GW2 would stand out even more than it already does, and I think a lot of the rest of the industry would be forced to pay attention.

  10. My big one is tying stats to gear.

And they could have partly remedied this by making all gear stats freely changeable, but instead, they locked this functionality behind legendaries.

If everyone could change stats as easily as with legendaries, we would see a LOT more build variety.

But even then, it wouldn't have had the flexibility of the first game's stat system, because stats are confined to combinations.

I much prefer having a pool of stats to allocate as I see fit.

  11. The Choice:

You look out across the meadow

    As the dawn sun crests

The distant rise with dew-drop glow

    Anticipation drips through the mist

    Exhilaration and fear

    Amongst your comrades flits

    Muscles bunched, sinuous steel

    Breath sharp and shallow

The enemy is near, you can feel

    Ponderous and putrid, your enemy

    Follows the star's progress

A slithering mass of disease and entropy

With a great bellowing roar, "FOR GREAT JUSTICE!"

    You charge, thighs pumping

    Joyously tempting death's final kiss

Flesh rises, axes fall, limbs are hewn asunder

    Before your onslaught

The necromancer cowers, as if from thunder

And at the end of this day of slaughter

    Blades green and metal

Drip with a harvest of blood and gore

You stand, limbs sore from labour's vice

    Sweat sheen, dirt strewn

And you know... THERE IS NO CHOICE.

Good lord, am I the only one who finds the Aviator Box and Bobblehead Factory a little funny even if I'm on the receiving end?

Nope, and I'd like to bet that ANet actively support such light mischief.

The Aviator box wouldn't exist if that weren't the case. The fact that it activates on interaction without a confirmation dialogue only serves to further illustrate this.

And I get massive delight out of using a chest transformation potion and sitting in starter areas with my character Magnificent Chest 😄

Part of that is the lack of decent ranged weapons on warrior atm.

I mean, if they wanted Warrior to remain mainly a melee powerhouse, but buff it so that it can stand toe-to-toe with all the other, now predominantly ranged professions, they could do worse than give us a lot of easily accessible missile reflects. Shield should have a reflect, sword should, Whirling Axe should, Staggering Blow should, etcetera, etcetera.

Because at the moment, GW2 is a ranged combat game, and as rightly pointed out, Warrior's ranged options are pretty bad.

  14. I never understood why GW2's UI wasn't as customisable as the first game's, considering they're the same engine.

    Now I know!

Wouldn't want to give users the ability to remove the ads!

To be honest, I thought they would have learned their lesson after the permanently highlighted Black Lion icon a couple months back.

    But nope.

ANet must like the feeling of standing on rakes they themselves have placed in the grass.

The platform with worst advert eyesore is YouTube. You are forced to watch up to 30 secs of lame advertisments frequently. That made me hate whatever they are selling in  the advertisements. Bad adverse effects.

    uBlock Origin.

  16. Has anyone actually got a decent use-case scenario for Magebane Tether in PvE?

It's one of the few mechanics in the game that I feel just doesn't translate well between PvP and PvE, and I feel it needs a certain something-something to make it pop in PvE.

It's much like how Mesmer in GW1 was. Most of its skills were based around causing other players grief, and simply didn't have the same impact when used against brainless AI (although GW1's AI was actually really good, and I rank it alongside Half Life, F.E.A.R and Black & White).

The skills just didn't feel as personal in a PvE setting.

And Magebane Tether has the same feel. AI doesn't run away, and this mechanic relies on the victim kiting. In short, GW2's AI is too dim to make Magebane Tether work.

But that was something I noticed about the game since early access. The AI simply didn't feel as smart as GW1's, and still doesn't.
