  1. The End of Dragons loading screens are a lot sharper than the old, blurry screens, and they look great. Any chance we could get updated high-resolution loading screen images for all instances? There's some really impressive art out there and I'd love to see it in its full glory!
  2. For what it's worth, I sent them an email with both issues (my wrong purchase issue and my login loop issue). They addressed the purchase problem immediately, but never said a word about the login loop even though I was quite clear. May need to try again if it continues to be an issue.
  3. Aha! Still curious if anyone else has the issue, but I'll try that. Thanks!
  4. Hey there. Hope someone from Support sees this since I can't seem to create a ticket for you all. I just accidentally bought the wrong item in-game (a wyvern statue decoration rather than a charr copter decoration for my guild), and so I went to see if I could get support to help me out (since apparently I care about this enough to do so), and I was amazed to see that they would, through a support ticket, which I then tried to create. When I clicked 'submit a ticket' on the article about accidental item purchases (https://help.guildwars2.com/hc/en-us/articles/360010367674-Accidental-Item-Purchases), it sent me to a page that told me I needed to log in, even though I already had (https://help.guildwars2.com/hc/en-us/requests/new), but I went ahead and tried to log in again, which returned me to the account overview page (https://account.arena.net/overview), then clicked 'Support' in the top-right of the page, which then via the red buttons in the top-right corner indicated that I needed to sign in again. So just to test it, I went through the whole process again (five or six times if I'm honest), and also tried it on mobile. I've disabled all my browser extensions (ditto on mobile), tried a private window, no dice. Using current Firefox (which I love and is otherwise unassailable), and I don't have another browser handy. What gives? Anyone else having this issue? Can anyone let support know that I'm in trouble, or is there some other way to get in contact with them if they don't respond here?
  5. Just have to reiterate a couple things that have already been said. Mech colour drives me crazy, and in many cases I can't see it at all, so please, please let us change it somehow (and/or skin it, or even 'capture' other mech designs/colours like Rangers can). Also, the fact that the mech is spawned every single time I hop off a mount or change maps drives me completely bonkers. Please retain the last-used state of the mech somehow (either spawned or despawned) so that I can use F4 as a stun opener if I want to. Super frustrating to have to constantly recall it. Those are my main criticisms. Overall, the spec still seems way stronger for less effort than any of the other engineer specs, at least in PvE, and obviously I think this should be compared against all other classes and their specs in terms of capability. It's fun for now to faceroll mobs, but it's making the game nigh-AFKable for me which isn't really much of a game at all at that point. Also, I'm used to having more flexibility, and I feel like this spec really locks a lot of that down by taking away the tool belt. It's... just... generally more powerful but less interesting to play than holo, sadly. Oh, one other thing - lack of underwater mech is a travesty. We need this. Please make it work.
  6. I'm having this exact same issue with my Lutris install. I'm not sure yet what's causing it, but the login process seems to function differently depending on the Wine prefix. For instance, ArmoredVehicle's install seems to work for me, but when I install with Lutris, I get the error you mention. Weirdly, if the launcher is still downloading some portion of the the Gw2.dat file, I can log in successfully if I keep trying (as if the download connection is serving as a proxy for the login server connection somehow). Steam with Proton is a whole other issue - for some reason, it can't successfully render 3D, and throws up a different error about that when it attempts to actually start the game engine. In fiddling with ArmoredVehichle's deployment (trying to get performance back up to where my Lutris build was), I saw the same 3D rendering error after adding d3d9 and vulkanrt through winecfg, so I assume Steam's Proton deployment just has a bunch of junk .dlls in the way which are confusing its access to my GPU. Getting back to our original error message, while I'm still learning the ways of Wine prefix tuning, I suspect this is maybe some sort of DNS issue within the prefix itself. The launcher is able to download data, so clearly network functionality is available to the prefix, and when I run the game through Lutris with the -diag option, all of the IP address tests succeed, though the pathping section fails with several 'file not found' errors. ? I doubt it's just an issue of a missing pathping executable, but I'll see if I can trace down the error. Will let you know if I do. All that said, props to ArmoredVehicle et al since this allowed me to get in to the Eye of the North and finish some strike missions before the emissary changed, which kept me from having to do crystal shard conversions over the next couple weeks. Got my Runic Hunter Boots right at the buzzer. Perfect timing. Thanks, thanks, thanks!
  7. Folks, I think it's important to say that even though we're getting traction with governments and such, we absolutely need to keep pressure on. These companies aren't small and they're going to do what they can to continue to exploit you, so YOU HAVE TO BE LOUD ABOUT THIS. If you're in the United States, call your congresspeople, set up petitions, do what you can to make yourselves heard, because Electronic Arts, NCSoft, Activision, et al are going start blowing money on this to maintain the status quo. Don't expect that things will go our way just because there's some early recognition. Quite the opposite - if it gets shut down by industry lobbyists, they could make it harder for us to have any sort of impact and we'll have to deal with this trash forever. RNG is the main problem. That's what makes it gambling. That's what we're concerned about. Let us buy items we can see.
  8. .> @Astralporing.1957 said: I think people often overlook the fact that we can also vote with our time. MMOs survive on an active player base. This is significant. Not if we want to change for the better, i'm afraid. If we "vote with our time", then either it won't be significant, and we won't accomplish anything, or it will be significant and either will cause devs to go into panic mode (possibly introducing even more of the changes we wouldn't want) or will cause the game to shut down (which is also hardly a change for the better). Besides, if we keep silent and do not complain loudly, the devs would not really know why we stopped paying in gemstore/playing the game. I'd rather they knew without a shadow of doubt, than hope they won't guess wrong. You're creating a pretty finite collection of realities here, but I think they're not the only ones. I am voting with time, have stated why, and remain involved in forums.

  10. What is all this, "they can't fix it now" nonsense? They can do a lot. They can reset items, they can refund gems, they can pull the adoption system, they can add individual skins to the gem shop. They just don't want to. Don't apologise for them.
  11. GW2 sales make it seem like the game is somewhat in decline, but we don't really know the story on production costs, so it looks... not great, but uncertain. https://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/7bzor8/arenanet_a_complete_history_of_earnings_since_2005/ (not aiming this at you directly btw, sorry)No apology necessary, and no offence taken. I think it's an interesting subject. The thing is, as I said, this is sales (assuming total revenue including boxes and gems), not profit, which means it's not reflective of operating or overhead costs. Without those numbers, making assumptions on ArenaNet's financial solvency is hard to do. I agree though... I don't think they're at death's door, but the trend does show a gradual decline, and perhaps this adoption fiasco is in response to that. Either at the hands of ArenaNet or (I think more likely) NCSoft. It could just be a general bandwagoning of an awful but popular monetisation strategy, of course, which would pretty much be the worst-case scenario. The 'ArenaNet in financial trouble' argument is just people trying to give them the benefit of the doubt.
  12. Despite the fact that many game sites, WP, dulfy (who is usually neutral about these things) condemn the practice, and there is a heavy community backlash? Anet cannot afford to take all this heat. Would expect after all that and then today the Gemstore was getting an update that this would've been looked into.It wasn't.I think it's safe to say it's staying whether we like it or not. We don't even have patch notes. How do we know the gemstore was updated? Um because of that little tiny topic right there?https://en-forum.guildwars2.com/discussion/458/news-gemstore-items-new-returned-sales#latest Anytime a sale is ending, an item is disappearing, something new is coming up, the Gem Store changes. The other items yesterday was "disappearing in 24 hours" meaning new items will take it's place and those old items are going away. Also, the game client also updated (assuming for the Gem store update). Was a small update obviously but it's an update. While I don't like this mount situation, I kind of made my duty to keep looking into the Gem store for a while now because I want my bloody Jungle Explorer Outfit.Once again, not liking the mount situation, but I'm not going to 100% stop getting certain things that I want in the gem store. I rather Arenanet know "I like how this is done so I will buy it if I like it" while "I think this set up is stupid, ridiculous, expensive, unfair, evil, makes baby Yahshua cry, etc so I will not give you any service on this." Not saying those that decide to flat out not give them a penny no more until this is changed of course is wrong. I've personally opted not to play at all until there's some substantive commentary from ArenaNet on the topic. That aside, I wouldn't be so dismissive just yet. Again, they haven't commented. Just because the gem store hasn't updated doesn't mean they've made a decision. They have to address the community directly after all of this. Don't lose heart. =) The thing is it did. The items they planned on removing was removed, and whatever they had planned on adding like those swarm things and whatever are up there while those mount things are still there.I will just take it as "Business as usual. These horrid mount practices are here to stay."Which I still won't pay a kitten thing for. Sorry, I wasn't clear. Just because they haven't removed the adoption system doesn't mean that's their official stance. Wait for an official comment. There will be one. I guess. My mother always said I'm the pessimistic type. I consider it a "Rather prepare for disappointment so when something good comes up I would get more surprised/happy about it."Keeping high hopes just makes "if" the bad news come out just more sour. And in this case, can lead to even more and more bad topics/messages on the situation and multiple "I quit" topics too.Haha, you sound like a good friend of mine. I end up trying to temper his pessimism as well sometimes. But sure, if ArenaNet goes the wrong way, people will react negatively, as has been made clear here. And I think they should. This is crappy. But we're not responsible for that. By implementing an offensive, predatory system like this, they're basically giving their players license to be angry with them. So, feel free to bask in the glow of righteous fury! =P But, y'know... try not to get too sad about it. We need you here with us. =)

  15. I like this idea I like the concept of the idea, but the gem costs are too low IMO.25050010002000Sorry man, 2000 gems for one skin is absurd. You're very nearly equating the value of an entire expansion to the cost of a skin.
  16. People care about this a lot. Maybe you don't, and that's okay, but try and accept that for what it is. Things affect different people differently, but clearly there are a lot of people who this affects more strongly than you. That doesn't mean they're wrong. Do you agree?

  18. I can't see any board of directors approving such a message. Maybe, but that doesn't change the fact that it would be beneficial. They'd have a community behind them rather than against them. Why do you think crowd funding works? Look at Star Citizen.
  19. This is a big part of the problem, though. ArenaNet doesn't communicate. A lot of this noise could have been avoided if they'd discussed it with us to begin with, and there are many ways in which gaming companies can do that. A development diary or roadmap which said, "Hey guys, we have a financial need to implement this system because the game isn't sustainable, and here you can see the costs versus revenues," or whatever would have gone a very long way to smoothing this out before it became the disaster that it was bound to be. The problem is that there is no "need" to implement manipulative systems. The vast majority of companies simply sell products that people want. If people don't want their product, they either change their product until people want it or the company fails. Introducing manipulative systems is a CHOICE (based on low standards IMO), not a NEED.I think 'need' is arguable. It's possible that ArenaNet is doing really poorly financially and they feel they have to implement an exploitative (but ultimately very profitable) system no matter what the community response looks like just to keep the game afloat. That said, again, this could simply be an issue of communication because if they worked with us to explain their issue, and began selling more things that players really wanted and fewer that players don't care about (discussed via a dev roadmap, art diary, et cetera), and did so in a reasonable way, then everybody could benefit. They'd waste less time and money and we'd have kinder practices and probably better prices.
  20. I personally feel like ArenaNet would be very well served by being more open with changes generally. They could save a lot of money by producing gem shop stuff that players actually want to buy. They could monetise popular items and ditch stuff nobody wants.
  21. Incorrect. If you get something that has no value to you (a skin you did not want and will not use) you have risked your time, effort, and money and lost.
  22. This guy must have infinite money and/or privilege. Dude, you answered your own question here. The big deal is that you didn't get the skin you wanted. If you get something you don't want then what was the point? All your time and effort to collect the gold to buy the gems, or that which you spent actually working for real money, has been wasted. Furthermore, if you don't get the skin you want, you may feel you need to gamble again for another chance at the one you do want, thereby potentially wasting more time and money and effort. ArenaNet knows this, they know very well the psychology behind it, and they are exploiting people to make money. It's not acceptable. They're a business and they have to make money, but there are far better ways for them to do it. I pre-ordered the ultimate edition of Path of Fire and some extra gems to support them, and I used those gems in the shop to purchase things that I wanted and which I could use. The answer to this is to produce good content that people want, and to let them buy that content at a reasonable price - not to prey on mental and emotional weaknesses, which is what they're doing. To be clear, I love ArenaNet and this game. Played GW1 since beta. PoF is a triumph. But what they've done here today is a disgrace. I'm disappointed and ashamed.
  23. ArenaNet, I love you, but this is absurd. Ditch the gambling, charge a reasonable amount per guaranteed skin, and produce content that people actually want rather than forcing them to play with something they don't just because that's what the random number generator decided to give them for their money and time.
