    I didn't even say that.

No, you didn't. I just took the opportunity to rant half a page about how "they did mounts" is not as good an argument as many people think it is. Yes I quoted you, but the post was not directed at you or directed at what you posted and I probably should have said that.

If I understand your argument correctly... you're trying to say that even if it's irrefutably bad, it's obscure enough that you consider it benign?
Like... since it's not in people's faces, it's okay that it's a bad reward for the investment?
...I suppose realistically you're not wrong, even if on principle I believe that's a bad way of thinking about things. Since if it's bad, it's still making the game worse, and there's no reason not to fix it if everyone agrees it's not fun and is bad.

Being a relatively new player myself, I was lead to discovering this achievement thanks to the map fragments dropped by low-level chests, and upon reading up on it I realized the true scope of how unpolished the game's old code really is. Like... Rhednak's Flame Temple Tombs are laughably outdated to the point where even the boss summoning chest lacks basic quality-of-life features like a visible timer, meaning players are forced to spam-click for up to ten minutes if they want to be efficient with the summoning. And that's just one of the many issues I discovered thanks to this achievement. So I would argue that it does have a detrimental impact on the game, since it's emblematic of the developer team not paying attention to new-player experiences.

I dunno. I just hope, with all the recent updates the developers have been making to old code, they would consider updating this archaic game design remnant. Since just because something's old and bad doesn't mean it isn't still bad and it doesn't mean it shouldn't be fixed.

The argument is more, if they wanted to improve this particular experience, i.e. the treasure hunter achievement. Making it accessable to more players is the wrong way. Imho a better way would be to 1) fix whatever is broken in all the little sub-missions (I wanted to go for it years ago but stopped because one of the events was broken so I couldn't buy an uncommon trinket, stuff like that) and 2) improve rewards to a point where it doesn't take decades to make back the possible 1.5k gold it costs should you not farm the events for the exotic trinkets. Maybe 3) give the chest a unique rare drop or add a unique title to the achievement.
I am very much with you that ANet should improve and fix their core game because it has huge potential and it is true that achis like the treasure hunter shines a light on content that has been broken and or abandoned since years which is a bad look. But I think the answer should be to fix them not to bypass the issue.

That's exactly the answer everyone who wanted mounts got over the years ... and then Anet suddenly brought mounts into the game with PoF.

Anet may be running out of ideas to bring new things into the game. Even fishing was brought into the game with EoD. Therefore, I am almost certain that Anet is already thinking internally about how to bring housing into the game in one of the next expansions and how to monetize it.

Not that I like housing much as it is in other games, but I think it will come sooner or later in GW2.

Once every, i don't know five years or so, I answer to "but they did they did mounts...and everyone was ´no mounts´...but then they did mounts...and now everyones is happy...checkmate...every suggestion is the same as mounts back in the days"- train of thought. So why not today.

    1) One thing people tend to forget is, the mounts we got in the end were not the mounts people were suggesting. The mounts people were suggesting were skins with perma swiftness attached to them. So the same boring stuff all the other games have and as that not needed in a game that had waypoints, perma running as a default and movement skills.
    2) The game would have been fine even without mounts (hear me out before you start typing). GW2 had a solid system in place  when it comes to exploration and it had introduced gliding and all the other HoT stuff. SO a world is imaginable, where PoF did not introduce mounts and would have been maybe just as good.
    3) However, the mounts we got are great, can't argue with that and I am very happy with them. Wouldn't want to miss them. Definitely the best in the industry, why else would others steal them? So, does "they did mounts, every suggestion is awesome" hold any merit as an argument? No. It doesn't. Mounts prove one thing. That ANet did very awesome mounts. That's great but that's also where it ends.
Should ANet reinvent housing in a way that is also super awesome and engaging, I will play it and enjoy it and I will eat my words. But I highly doubt that this is possible with a private and static feature like housing. Same was true for fishing and for me at least "but they did mounts, so fishing will be awesome" did not work out. Whenever it was suggested, it was the same "vision" of a laid back chill minigame for downtime in between events. Just. Like. In. Every. Other. Game. Out. There. It's boring. It's trivial. It adds nothing to the game because it is filler by design. "But they did mounts. Fishing will be awesome." Is it awesome? No it's not. It's boring. It's trivial. It adds nothing to the game. Because it's just like every other fishing minigame out there. Because different to what ANet achieved with mounts, they did not reinvent fishing in a new and fascinating way. They copied Stardew Valley and added a handful of tedious achis. I mean some people like it and that's fine. But they for sure don't like it because it's so innovative or novel. So sure, housing may happen, because it's easy to monetize and some people like it. I just hope it does't. I hope those resources go somewhere, where everyone can enjoy them. Somewhere in the open world or into some story instances. But thaose are the samediscussions we always have in these housing threads, and those can be found with a simple forum search.

  4. Sure...
But what you are suggesting doesn't make the chest more valuable. I decreases its value as now more people can leech it. Now it needs less people to actually do the achi. So less people will be inclined to do it. If you really want to incentivise people to do the achi more, this is not the way.
If you want to make the chesst more attractive, what needs to happen is that it would need to drop better loot. It would need to be worth it. But it never really was, as I said. It was always a very niche thing for the completionist AP hunters. It was always a thing that either cost thousands of gold or required farming rather obscure events for a standard champ bag per day. Something that would take you years or decades to get even goldwise. At least imho, it's fine like it is. Sites like GW2efficiency inform you on how expensive it will be, the wiki informs you on what you will get out of it and if you don't think it's going to be worth it, easy, don't do it. You don't need it, no one does. You're probably better off buying a champ bag per day from the trading post.

  5. As with many suggestions, this whole wall of text is basically a totally different game. You wrote what you would like to see in the game without taking into account what is already there. Instead of just playing WvW you invent a new PvP mode that has nothing to do with GW2 and then suggest it be implemented into this game. Stuff like this has zero chance of ever seeing the light of day. GW2 has no climbing, no tanks and it's not easy to implement or balance these things. Also randomly assigning a commander, people following that randomly assigned commander is just not how people work. Try getting into WvW. Maybe find a GvG guild if those still exist, and you will get your 20v20 battles. No need to spend resources on any of this.

Housing is just a no from me, won't elaborate, if you care, you'll find the arguments in the many many threads on the subject. Bonus-also, there are no horses inTyria.

The spider-mount was planned at some point but got scrapped. The other one sounds like redundant and useless screenclutter. We have mounts that fly, mounts that jump high, mounts that jump wide, mounts that go fast, mounts that port around. Find a niche that isn't already taken, then you'll have a good design. Everything else is just a skin. Also adding a minion to every class will be a balancing nightmare.

I don't really want the plebs entering WvW, only elite players.

I have to admit I didn't know about that one. But the more challenging Bosses the better. Make it so that failing mechanics wipes the whole team on all maps.

If you don't want the plebs you shouldn't ask for PvE content then. 😉

  7. As sad as it is. I think ANet has no plans in rworking existing backieces to be dyeable. A true shame consdering that this is a legendary item and any new gemshop piece comes with dye channels these days. It's an old skin and that's just its fate at this point. Same goes for the other legendary backpieces or the AP armors/backpieces/gliders.

I am disappointed with this as well. I expected animated stuff, I wouldn't even use these without transmutation or an outfit. Looks so generic.
I was looking for some visual trophy as well after all that Kryptis rift and meta grind. They definitely need rework.

Afaik these are "only" the first tier. A second tier will be released with the final patch of SotO. Maybe those will have an animation. But I think nothing is confirmed so far.

  9. My main problems with the new characters are:
    - Zojja: Was dearly missed by the community for years, by myself only a bit (not a huge Asura fan) but let's go with "dearly missed". Was hyped up "We're bringing Zojja back, ZOMG YOU GUYS!!!" She even is on the client screen. Then she gets a semi prominent role in the first act of the story, Zojja is basically the 1st grade henchman to the Wayfinder who's the "really new person on the job". After that she gets lobotomized and shoved out of the story.
I expected her to be with us. I kinda though that she would be the link between our old and this new adventure. Patching things up while doing the new stuff. Nope, she's unavailable, here's creepy demon lady for me to hang out with,
    - The rest of the wizard bunch: As a whole, the fraction would have been very interesting. The fractals, their absence during tyrias struggles all the weird science and magic would have provided some great grey tones. The individuals we met also are mostly ok, I think I liked most of them beside Isgarren. But again, the most colorful are staying behind most of the time after act 1. Sure we get Frode, his Daughter (I think) and Galrath, but where's the rest? Where's a small outpost run by Livia with a small story about her opinion on the whole thing? What are Glade and R'tchikk up to these days? The Astral ward has some good characters but as soon as we set foot into Nayos we almost exclusively deal with Kryptis, as enemies as well as allies.
    - Named Kryptis: The Kryptis as a whole kinda fall flat for me. They all look the same, use maybe seven different models only size makes them different. Games are a visual medium, and when your allies, your enemies and a good portion of your environment share the same surface structure, it gets old really fast. I get that with the last two releases a lot of story is told through achievements, collectables and optional dialogues. But I couldn't tell you a single name of these NPCs for the life of me. I know Ramses because they were around long enough and I know Ilja, because their death was so comically forced. Nephus is new and we see where this is going. But what I would need is just more time to care about these characters. If they can't be visually distinct, they have to be distinct by character. And that just isn't happening in a single dialogue instance and a short stroll along a battlefield where we whack 4 random veteran Kryptis.
    - Peitha: I'm just not buying it. I'm just not buying it to a point where if she turns out to be actually good, I will be rolling my eyes becouse it's out of character. If she's backstabbing us, I'll be bored out of my skull because it's just what I'm expecting. And if she pull's a Desmina and "We will never know..." I'll also be unsatisfied because "I will never know...". This is definitely my problem.. But it also has to do with what I wrote above. If I could focus on other characters, I would have less time to think about Peitha. Peitha could interact with other characters more. We could be more informed about her and maybe she could be more interesting. But we don't have that. We have her, we have bland and samey Kryptis (maybe Nephus will go somewhere), the Astral Ward is tangled up in logistics and doesn't interact with her or us on a character level. And that's about it.
    - And with all that: There's only one more release and I doubt we will hear from any of this, Nayos, the Astral Ward, the characters after SotO is done again. And if the last patch is about the size of the last two, there's not a lot of space to work with. How much more character development for Nephus or Eparch can they do, given that arc 4 will have maybe 4 instances, one of which will be and end fight? And that's if no new characters get introduced or brought back. I don't miss the old cast a lot, but supporting characters are important to a story. They give the main character something to play off of. Someone to ask questions. Someone to point something out or move the story into a certain direction. You can remove the supporting cast of a narrative, but you have to replace it with something of somewhat equal value and they didn't do that imho. That's what I am missing with SotO.

  10. 1) We kill Eparch, as a last resor Eparch collapses the gates between Nayos and Tyria to trap us in the demon realm.
    2) Peitha, now the Demon queen, keeps the gates open and rushes us and the wizards back to safety. "But what about you " - "I have to stay here, with my people." - "What will you do now?" - "What I have to."
    3) We end up in Tyria. The gate closes behind us. Final scene with Isgarren. "Do you think she will be a just ruler?" - "We will never know, Wayfinder."
    4) Fade to black
    5) Directed by Robert B. Weide

You are right, most of the afk players are considerate and normally don't occupy anything that directly gatekeeps a heart.

Honestly though I know the numbers of afk farming and it is not worth the effort even if you multi-box it.

If you want to get the afk experience your best bet is to set up a good macro and participate in events or do hearts. Some events or hearts have a few way to achieve participation though killing so just do that to completion. I got my gift of exploration by parking my Ranger at hearts and just doing longbow spam.

That is much better money but I don't think that would count as afk, just being lazy maybe.....

I only watched a few vids on the matter and know the discussions around it and from that I think I can tell that it's only "profitable" in the sense that it's next to no effort for a tiny bit of loot over a very long time. It is a process that can be minmaxed I guess, but nothing to where it would compete to anything, active gameplay would get you, even if you're just actively running around, doing map completion, killing random mobs or doing random events.
Also, since players aren't really competing for loot, as long as those AFK/semi-AFK players aren't interfering with events or hearts, active players aren't disadvantaged.
The bad look however, that unfortunately is a thing imho. It just looks weird, to say the least, when you log into a map and you find these clusters of necros/engis/rangers that all look the same, have the same name and behave like bots and you find them all over the map.
But again, nothing of this is new, it's all been discussed since years and so far, ANet has not changed their approach to the matter. I mean you can't install the Lake Doric killer mortars(tm) everywhere, right?

The problem you will find is they are not Afk so nothing will happen. I normally just talk to them and see what YouTube video they are watching.

    Basically this^^
Not saying it's good or pretty or fine or anything. But a short forum search will show you that it's just the state of things. ANet makes a difference between attentive and non-attentive gameplay where the first is ok and the latter is a banworthy offense, while both look the same when you just pass them by on a map. ANet's MO here is: they receive a report or observe a suspicious player, contact them and if they don't respond in time, the account is seen as unattentive and therefore suspended. If the player does respond in time, all is well and they are free to continue. At least that's the official version and I doubt we'll get more here or in any other thread on the matter. I can only assume that there probably are checks for bots and macros at work at some point, at least that's what I'd do, but I would also tell no one about it.
When it comes to this, we're all just stuck with either "Report and move on." or "Stop caring.". Taking it to the Forums doesn't change anything, we know ANets answer and what they are doing about it. Getting stressed out about, angry and aggravated is bad for your health and your enjoyment of the game. Trying to find these AFK'ers, grief them with mounts or by pulling champs into them is a waste of your time imho.
About the changes to the weekly, well it wasn't so much about punishing anyone as it was about removing something unintended and I very much expect them to come for the fractal training golems next. While changing the "Kill 100 [type]" category the way they did happened to make it more accessable and give people more choice. Same goes for the "Do [event]" ones. I think this is a good thing.

  13. Same...I mean I know the in lore reason for the absence of our team and I can guess the RL reason why not even Zojja, a character the community has waited years for and was hyped up quite a lot, is joining us. But it all just feels very empty. Peitha and the formless monster bunch just can't compete, especially not if they're not well introduced one dimensional characters or, as in the case of the monster queen herself, shady at best. I do not want to relate to her as she will most likely stab me in the back in act 3. The wizards from act 1 are mostly absent, so there's not a lot left. Being the Wayfinder is very lonely.

GW1 had enough to support the gameplay and enough cash.
Did it reach an end of a lifespan?
Do other factors go into consideration like tech, AR, VR, AI, game engine, core game, etc.?

Can't say much about GW1 as I wasn't playing it. I know that it looked outdated even for the time and while it seemed to have some neat things like henchmen/heroes and good buildcraft to keep it going even with very little players playing (I thinkk you can basically play it solo at this point beside PvP but correct me if I'm wrong). It's tech also lacked behind so the step up to a new title might have made sense. I look at freedom of movement f.e. where GW2 is just miles ahead een when just comparing the core game.
Did it reach the end of its lifespan? Again, there is no st ideal lifespan. Lifespan is a very complex term for MMOs that can't just be defined in "the perfect lifespan for every MMO in every case is 5.739 years under all circumstances whatsoever".
New technology has to be considered but also isn't the be all and end all standard for everything. Sometimes the early adapter has the cutting edge but sometimes the early adapter is the first to run its busines into a wall and only the second and third adapters can profit from new tech. VR for example has been around for decades at this point and it has been promised to be "the next big thing" for just as long...and it's still niche. Sure, the niche is getting bigger and more and more big companies are making products for it...it's still a niche. Same for AI. It barely took off last year, it's still kinda trash adn people are already asking if it could revolutionize gaming, if it could replace writers or artists or whatever. Yeah, maybe it could in ten years. That doesn't answer the question wether or not it should for once. It doesn't answer the question wether or not we actually want this or not. And it is for sure not at a point where it can write our quests for a game that will be launched next year.

  15. As long as the playerbase is active enough to support the gameplay and enough cash is spent to keep the development lights on, the game is not dead or in maintenance mode i.e. has not found the end of its lifespan. There is no predetermined ideal lifespan of a MMO. It runs as long as it makes sense for its company to keep it running.
Now let me ask something. Is this another thinly veiled GW3 thread?

Ok. I hear your constructive criticism. We can can improve and make it even cooler....

    Relic of the...i don't know...Golemancer...or something....
Upon entering combat spawn a catgolem to fight by your side. For its duration the golem pulses "Aura of Awesomness"
"Aura of Awesomness": Removes revealed, grants stealth, superspeed, quickness, alacrity and stability to you and your allies.
    Number of targets 5
(Also, the golem is now champion sized)

Now we have made it even cooler, removed bothersome things like not having superspeed or not being stealthed. Who wouldn't like to run this? So it has to be perfect. 12/10 bestest relic ever made. It's so cooooooooooooooooooooooool!!!!!!!!!!!
