The whole GW2 story in order...

Just a quick question. I started playing during beta, but quit for a while before LWS1 was even 1/2 way done, so I did not play out the story. I have finished everything else since (not exactly in order as I skipped ahead to get POF mounts.... no mounts was why I did not keep playing at the start).

I have made a new character, gotten them to level 80 & did all the HP trains & got my exotic gear & builds down, but I only did the level 10 personal story. I remember later in the personal story dealing with the unhappy split of our races & their guild, & never quite understood what happened there.

I want to do everything in order this time around on my fresh character. Is LWS1, then personal story, then LWS2, HOT, LWS3, POF, LWS4, IBS, EOD going to be the best order chronologically? Thanks for any input. I enjoy the story very much & want to see it in order :)

  Also Happy Easter everyone!

Almost right. Personal Story -> Season 1 -> Season 2 etc.

However, that's just the overall Story Journal. There's other story content happening, including dungeons, raids, and short stories that happen concurrently or preceeding certain story parts. I recently made an extensive full list on reddit so here's a copy/paste of that:

Spoiler

The full chronological story order (including gw1, novels, short stories, side stories, and festival stuff) would be at best placement:

holy gods man that index is amazing, i feel like reading a book index.

my utopia is that one day gw2 have a decent ingame codex(nothing too big, just a "summary" cards) like Dragon Age Inquisition.

come on Anet, surprise us!

Thanks for the chronological order of things! I have no novels or short stories, just playing through the game & the stories. In the personal story early chapter somewhere, there is mention of dislike between Rytlock, Logan, Eir, etc. I do not know the story behind that & thought maybe playing LWS1 when it comes out would clear it up .

It seems that the personal story ends at 1325 (year), & LWS2 starts in 1327 (year), so LWS1 fills in between 1325 & 1327 from what I can see. I had not been sure if I should play through the personal story or LWS1 first, but you have kindly answered that for me!

Thank you so much Konig Des Todes! Personal story, then LWS1 :)

The short stories were all on the gw2 website and can be found on the wikis that I listed.

The events that caused Destiny's Edge to break apart is in the novel Edge of Destiny which details its formation to breaking in 1319-1320 AE, though the key parts are covered in the core dungeons' story mode (specifically Sorrow's Embrace story) which is why it's important to do them while playing through the personal story as the dungeons are the story of DE reuniting and why they show up in Victory or Death (finale to PS) as a working guild again.

Thanks again. Being 65 & with severe vision disability, I have always avoided anything that requires alot of skill in any group because I would not be at all helpful. I just solo things & engage in OW Metas where I can participate & enjoy the group setting. Are the dungeons available in a solo story mode? That would be awesome. Anything that says dungeon or fractal is no place for me if the group needs every player at high skill.

I find a great deal to enjoy in GW2 with casual OW groups & solo play 🙂

Dungeons are technically not solo available, however due to powercreep and most dungeons being balanced for low levels, most of them are. The ones that are hardest to solo would be Honor of the Waves and Crucible of Eternity. And those can be easily duo'd if you can find a guildie or something, no high skill really needed.

Living World Season 1 happened after the personal story though. The events around Rytlock, Logan and the Destiny's Edge happened actually before the personal story began 🙂 there was a book before the launch of GW2 that covered that (also the dungeon stories give some input about that i think).

LWS1 on the other hand will cover how you, the commander, met Braham, Rox, Marjory, Taimi, Kasmeer and Canach.
