Is firebrand really that bad in spvp?

I played the ow cele firebrand listed in metabattle(link:https://metabattle.com/wiki/Build:Firebrand_-_Celestial_Firebrand) using sage's amulet and changed a few things(link:http://gw2skills.net/editor/?PWwAc6ZlJweYdMKmJWyWrveA-z5YfCidA) and it works fairly well as a support and still maintained enough damage and sustain to be helpful( it is a little bit squishy if focused by more than one person and side nodes really bad but that is to be expected)

 

The question remains: is firebrand really bad in spvp?

Every single nerf to Firebrand in WvW has directly effect sPvP Firebrand builds.... even when Firebrand wasn't meta in sPvP... Let that marinate a little.

Firebrand is bad for so many reasons. For starters, Firebrand does not excel in any category. The spec does not excel in burst power damages, AoE condi damages nor single target condi damages. It can't even self-bunker itself on sidenodes very effectively, which can be a role within itself. Anet even nerfed the self-quickness it gets when switching to Virtues....so how the spec plays, is not the same as when the spec first launched. (the cooldowns on virtues and the quickness on virtues cast for example)

To answer your question, Firebrand is REALLY terrible in sPvP. You should never use it.

In my experience, when I see a firebrand in sPvP, nine times out of ten they get bullied the whole match. They used to be a god-tier support and might well still be if anyone's fool enough to let them precast, but most experienced players know they can't defend themselves.

Bad builds aren't always an insurmountable handicap, but you'd probably do better supporting with core guardian.
