If you want an humorous (and a bit dated) take, Noxxi has a pair of video on Mesmer and Necromancer.

- Mesmer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EjEr1pSTMK0

- Necro: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tf55h0x5hFM

iirc, Mukluk has a video where he summarize the professions for new players.

My personal opinion? It depends on a lot of things. Will they play vanilla? With xPacks? Elite spec can completely change the viability of a profession and how it plays and the themes. Do they have experience in other MMO we can use as a frame of reference?

It's hard for players who are neck deep in the game to give a summary to someone not playing it. We have absorbed so many references, memes... and are very biased.

Id say the question should be how to describe each elite, each class has 3 elites and each elite is pretty much unique... so its difficult to explain classes by themselves.

The closest would be ele and rev the forgotten and bullied, guardian the god of support, engi the new guardian, ranger the crippled pet hospital, necro... triing to revive.

Most of the descriptions are just for the fun XD

and that's how this topic should be treated: as game, a bit of fun :)

Enough! You are filled with doubt, Brother. Forsake all misgivings! Lay down the burden of thy doubt, and instead, take up the path of the warrior. Do not shackle yourself with the fetters of lesser men, the binds that make them feel secure. Rather, step out into the unknown, into the land of the warrior. Prepare yourself! The path of the warrior is not easy. One must build themselves to be the enduring figure of a warrior. Through daily work and tireless dedication, your legs will grow thicc, your back wide, and your forearms veiny. They will come at you with the temptations of the lesser; the magics, the illusions, the stealths. Nay! I say unto thee, your legs have been made thicc not by these limited shortcuts, but by the work of thine own doing. And your legs have been forged, as if made of the oak that thrusts up from the bosom of the earth, so that it may transcend the glass ceiling of weaker mortals. So gut punch the magic in the face, shatter the illusions, kick the stealth in the balls. Then take up thy sword, present thyself in an extra deep horse stance, and get to work growing yet further. For Warrior’s path has no end, only a beginning. We walk on, searching for the back of beyond, on an endless journey of transcendence. So kill the gods, shatter the chains of fate, become the monster that the monsters fear. For by the warrior you become the terror of the day, the hunter of the night, the thing which the monsters check for at night, the beast that the gods fear, and the being that the dragons serve. No one can stop you, there’s nothing so strong.

So take up your sword, spread your legs wide, sit deep into a horse stance, and begin pushing the limit beyond all those about you. They may laugh, the may stare, but in the end they will fear, they will beg, and they will serve you.

I shall prioritize brevity, as was requested by the OP. How to describe warrior? Words seem to fail. The imprecision of the human language cannot fully encompass the girth of warrior’s greatness. Just as words improperly fail to categorize the vastness of the universe, the emptiness of space, the loneliness of death, or the terror of those who gaze upon warrior on the battlefield.
Listen, my brother of War, to what the scriptures have said! Warrior descends upon the battlefield like a hurricane befalling the land of an innocent village. The others present themselves, thinking they have come to fight, but without knowledge of the resolve required to butcher thine enemies. Nay. They are not prepared. And this is evident with the horror on their faces when they see warrior, perched high up on his hill, overlooking the battlefield, blood smeared across his barreled chest, ground crumbling under Warrior’s greatness. For whom hast warrior come to join in battle? To which side shall warrior be pledged? This is the thought that runs through the mind of the lesser profession, incapable of perceiving the reality of the world. Warrior has not come to join an army, Warrior has come to orchestrate the death of the thousands gathered before Warrior, as if an offering to the monster to appease the bloodlust that emanates from warrior’s hulking visage.

And when this realization befalls those who have come to the valley, to those who have chosen to take to the fight, it is much too late. Panic and fear shall spread amongst both friend and foe. Their desire to protect, their desire to fight, their desire to grow old, to have children, to live a fulfilled life, all has been crushed under the imposing weight of warrior, like a baby seal being strewn upon the rocks in a heavy storm. Nay! Their only thought in that moment was to flee. To survive for just one moment more, to breathe the fresh air of the living world just once more, to gaze upon the beauty of the open sky for a little longer. For the first time, they have experienced a true appreciation for all that which they take for granted when confronted with the overwhelming force of violence and slaughter that is Warrior. Yet it is all too late. There is no more escape, how could one escape warrior? It is as if thou sought to escape time, to escape light, to escape hope. Nay, salvation has long gone.

Like a falcon diving on its prey, warrior uncoils his legs, driving down the hill with the force of a thousand exploding suns, laying waste to those who dared to stand before Warrior. The field was stained red, the sky darkened with the shade of the circling carrion. And alone, in the middle of the field, kneels the lone survivor, staring at the sky, disappointment setting in at the weakness of those who had gathered, at the brevity of the engagement. Warrior, alone, stares up at the sky, wondering if it too could survive Warrior’s onslaught.

So you wish for encouragement to play warrior? Encouragement shall not be enough. Thou must resolve thine self to the path of hardship and dedication. For warrior is a power borne not of impotent magics or blessings from some other being. Nay! Warrior is a power borne of the aspirations of a mortal to transcend his fatal condition. To no longer be bound by weakness. To strive for that which is past the back if beyond. Do you have the resolve? Do you have the determination to follow the path? Then pick up thine sword and begin swinging. Pick up thine axe, and begin chopping. Inch by inch, raise yourself up. Join us, oh brother if war, as we seek to transcend the berry gods that made us. Join us as we seek to raise our swords high enough to strike at the belly of the universe itself. Join us, as we venture to the land beyond the reach of fate, as we push forward, beyond the gaze of destiny, to the place where we are no longer constrained by the forces that others fail to comprehend. Have thee the desire to fight time? To kill light? To duel with hope? To strike down fate? Even more, I shall tell thee, it has been written in the holy book;

”And so warrior shall strike at the very heart of reality itself. And when warrior hath gone beyond the limits of that which is real, so too shall warrior endeavor to venture further, and fight against that which be unreal. To find that which hath bound warrior from beyond reality. Thine is the sword that shall transcend the gods. Thine is the path that shall venture infinitely to the place beyond infinity”.
