Old GW2 account AND STEAM account

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

I bought GW2 on the very beginning, virtually on the premiere. Now I downloaded it by the STEAM and wrote a different display name than it was on my original account. Starter lets me logging in now, only via steam account (cannot write the display name again). So I changed on my arenaNET account a display name on this what I wrote at the start when Steam version was ready to run but the game does see my old characters and lets only for 2 of them (instead of 5).

What I am to do on STEAM, to log in via arenaNET account now?

Your ArenaNet and Steam accounts aren't linked at all, and you can't log into one from the other. When you launch the game by Steam, you're logging into a Steam account, and when you launch the game directly from the game client itself, you're logging in from your ArenaNet account.

You can launch your ArenaNet account from Steam, but its just a hack, and doesn't provide most Steam services. Simply put, ArenaNet and Valve are different companies.

You can add the command line "-provider Portal" in Steam to use ArenaNet authentication to log into an old GW2 account if you launch the game from Steam.  The Steam account you created is an F2P account.  That's why you only see 2 characters for it.

Be aware that Steam and ArenaNet GW2 accounts are completely separate.  You can't link them and if you make purchases in Steam, they are credited to the F2P Steam account.  You have to make purchases for the ArenaNet GW2 account outside of Steam.

It works very well and thank You for answer: now I have a full version with 5 slots available.

Could You tell me last thing: what is the level cap for me and for people with later expansion-sets? To play pvp on You know - equally conditions - do I need to spend £30 or I just do not have access to some lands?

There is no level cap increase from the expansions, as all progression becomes account-wide instead of character based. You do however gain access to elite specialisations (subclasses) that often perform better., but many core classes are still played in PvP despite this.

Keep in mind you can't make purchases on your ArenaNet account through Steam.

Just to reiterate, if you plan to buy the expansions for your old non-Steam account, be sure to purchase from ArenaNet and not Steam. There is no extra download for them.
