Crystal Paladin.3871
tried it in desolation map.. near lair of forgotten waypoint... adjusted the camera view to see if moon can eclipse the sun.. it does eclipse the sun at daytime partial eclipse doesnt look like partial atall.. moon oesnt have an effect... full eclipse sun is totally blocked or i could be wrong entirely and this is just a 3D lighting source issue and sun object is not large enough than moon to negate the eclipse phenomena
Konig Des Todes.2086
It'd be hard to tell for certain in-game because of how they do the day/night structure with the moon and everything. Looking too strongly at it makes it very clear it's not an actual solar system. That said we do get references in GW2 about eclipses and celestial bodies. Though it could just be ANet not thinking too deeply about it when they named druid traits, this design contest weapon, or this gemstore weapon. SoftFootpaws.9134
we don't know the exact specifics of it but we do know eclipses happen, there is a time of day cycle, seasons exist, years pass accordingly and so on. its pretty much established that tyria does exist in actual space, and the astrallarium (as well as other observatories, like in arah and horn of maguuma), do observe it, but the developers are a bit inconsistent with the depiction of the stars in the game. this is because they just use generic skyboxes with no consistency, with the planet sometimes even having multiple moons visible while at other times no moon can be seen at all. that said you could chalk this up to the different eras the maps are set in, location and rotation of the planet relative to the sun and so on. i would say the main reason this isn't explored more in-depth, as its pointless to develop space exploration capability when you have travel through the mists, which is kind of like subspace as depicted in many science fiction shows. its just far less efficient especially when the distance between worlds could be thousands of lightyears or more. i would think that tyria's space knowledge is likely limited only to the immediate area around the planet at most. draxynnic.3719
It's also worth considering that Tyria's cosmology might not be the same as ours. There are references to stars being placed in the sky in commemoration of Tyrian events and individuals (although some dispute this), and if Tyria was created from the Mists, the cosmology might well be a pocket of 'normal' space stabilised by the likes of Soo-Won and Koda surrounded by the Mists (or Void). It might even be a non-heliocentric system.

On top of what drax said about the oddity regarding stars in Tyria, the mere existence of a solar system - even if it works on the same logics as reality - doesn't necessarily mean an eclipse will happen, as that requires the moon's orbit to match, at some point the positioning of the sun in the sky. It theoretically could never occur depending on the moon's revolution's path, the planet's rotation angle, and the planet's revolution placement. Could also be something that only happens once every 10,000 years... or something that happens every other Tuesday.
