Janthir Wilds Ultimate edition for tools or volatile tools in sale?

Recommended Posts

I have been thinking about getting the infinite gathering tools for a while but the price always felt a little steep. With the new expansion though you can get infinite tools rather than the cosmetics normally given in the deluxe and ultimate editions of expansions like the skiff skin. Previously when I considered it I would have gone for the volatile set due to the glyphs and the extra volatile it gives.

What I am hoping is someone could advise which is the better scenario here, I wont bother with Deluxe edition and usually buy less than 4000 gems a year but they would get spent eventually – should I just get standard version and get the volatile in the next sale, or should I get the Ultimate edition of Janthir Wilds, which appears to give me  ‘free’ tools ( that also get a glyph container)? I am never normally bothered about the cosmetics that come with Deluxe and Ultimate but tools seem like no-brainer, the new set though does not give volatile so I am not sure.

Bought Ultimate but did not receive any glyph containers with the tools. Just an fyi.

Everyone who got the Janthir tools will get glyph containers on launch day. They realized it was a bit of a goof to not give glyphs, so they're adding them.

Edit: "Beginning with the August 20 game update, all players who have Eldritch Horror Gathering Tools will be able to visit a Black Lion Exchange Specialist at any of these locations to exchange them for a version that includes the glyph selection containers. Players who purchase the Deluxe, Ultimate, or Digital Deluxe Upgrade editions of Janthir Wilds after the August 20 game update will automatically receive three glyph selection containers with the Eldritch Horror Gathering Tools."

Well, if you know you'll be needing a lot of volatile magic and don't care about the rest that comes with Ultimate, then I'd just go ahead and get those. But if you're not sure if you'll end up needing a ton of it, then there's no harm in getting the Ultimate edition for the Janthir tools and then picking what glyphs you want from the provided containers (once they're out Tuesday).

In my personal opinion, the Ultimate edition is a pretty good deal, considering you get the 4000 gems (which you could use for the volatile set for an alt, if you really wanted), the set of tools (usually a cost of at least 2000 gems on the gem store), the expansion, and then the other cosmetic items. But really, it's just up to your personal preference for how you spend your money.

Here's how I would work it out. I'm not sure where in the world you are, so for this post I'm using US dollars. The answer will be roughly the same in your currency, even if the numbers are different.

Janthir Wilds Ultimate costs $74.99

Janthir Wilds Standard costs $24.99
Infinite Volatile Magic Gathering Tools with a 20% discount (most likely amount) cost 2,160 gems or $27
Total cost: $51.99

The Ultimate edition comes with 4,000 gems (worth $50) and you said you buy gems sometimes, so if you can trust yourself not to spend them faster than you normally would we can subtract that $50 from the Ultimate edition because if you didn't buy it you'd eventually spend the same amount on gems so the cost is negligable - you're just paying up front instead of later on. $74.99 - $50 = $24.99 - the same as the standard edition, and you get the gathering tools with it. (Note: in the UK it's £1.50 more expensive.)

Another way to look at it is you're getting the expansion and the tools and then only paying $23 for $50 worth of gems.

Either way the Ultimate Edition is the better choice for you.

The only exception is if having 4,000 gems in your wallet leads to you impulse buying a bunch of stuff you wouldn't normally get, and then later on you have to buy more gems to get the stuff you actually want and end up spending more on gems than you would in a normal year, but it sounds like you trust yourself not to do that.

(This is the same way I decide for myself and I've always decided it's worth getting the ultimate editions and never regretted it. It takes me months to spend the gems, but that's fine with me.)

Thanks everyone, appreciate you taking me through it, my head was just in a muddle. The breakdown was useful Danikat, no idea why it's more expensive in the UK but it's not a big increase. I decided I needed a new character slot as well so that pushed me to get Ultimate as you get one in the extras, I am good at not impulse buying so it's all good!
