Daniel Handler.4816
Phantasms used to attack multiple times and each attacking animation has frames to return the model to an idle state. The transition time differs by phantasm, with warden seeming to be the worst offender. But even with good ping and quickness these extra frames are noticeable on all phantasms as seen in this raids DPS test. Lowering axes, stepping backwards, leaning back, etc is entirely unnecessary. When the attack is done/interrupted they should instantly become a clone or, when traited, a dazed phantasm.
Curunen.8729
This is a good point and would make gameplay smoother.

However the new mage doesn't have one, and the new defender does, so it might be technical.
