Greensword

Back when the Reaper Elite spec was announced it seemd like such a promising idea, since Greatswords are suppose to be the top damage weapon. So it seemed the Necromancer will finally leave the "least wanted class club."Alas we all know how that ended up, the Reaper ended up only 2nd last to the Ranger when it came to fighting with a Greatsword.Mesmers don't count since they use the Greatsword as a ranged weapon and their weapon choice usually is based on more than just simple damage output.

And now after PoF came out, the Ranger got a new Elite called Soulbeast, thanks to which they gained the ability to make strong DPS builds using a Greatsword. So the Necromancer is now dead last when it comes to whielding a Greatsword, I mean let's let that sink in:

Greatsword Ranger > Greatsword Necromancer

A Ranger for crying out loud, the very name implies that the class should specialize in RANGED combat is better than the Necromancer who can only whield the Greatsword with the Reaper Elite. So yeah, what was ment to be a winning hand turned out to be a pair of three's against a royal flush. The only consolation is that the Nacromancer can join the "cool kids" club and equip an Eternity with the Reaper Elite, which doesn't even work as a gimmick anymore as the GW2 population no longer views Legendary Weapons as such a big deal as when the whole thing began.

I think it's been said numerous time in the ranger forum but "ranger" have nothing to do with "range" (with the meaning of doing damage from long range).

As for reaper's dps, because it's obviously what hurt the OP, it is not lacking due to the GS. The reaper's dps is mainly lacking due to the necromancer combat design. Or like obtena say, a "theme" issue since reaper was designed to be a slow hard hitting movie monster and it's GS embody this idea.

Reaper's original problem was that greatsword did not have enough modifiers for adequate dps but Arenanet has been working the traits over to improve how GS damage scales.

With some of Necro's other features, it is not bad. Comparing only dps between 2H, short-range weapons like War, Guard, and Thief's staff, consider what else the build brings.
