    Indeed; single player games are harder. If you crave a challenge, just ask for a few titles!

    MMOs have huge fees to keep their services working. They need a comparably huge player base to keep it running, so they can't cater exclusively to the most reactive ones, the most knowledgeable ones, and so on and so forth - whichever name you use pertaining to that umbrella term of "player skill".

    Hence: you can take off your gear! They didn't fail, they need to consider the largest player base possible. Their very economical model relies on it; this is a business, not a charity.

    lol

    originally MMO's were the hardest games around

    There's also a gigantic  middle ground between the 1% autobattler casual and the 1% tryhard world first racers.

    I'll preface by saying I'm not even talking about the quality of the skins, or the noob traps (obsidian shards, vision shards, tier 5 bags, etc.).

    Reward wise, the wizard's vault has a lot of potential that isn't being realized. Seeing the same okay-ish rewards (coins, clovers), legendary weapon kit aside, being repeated without any interesting or compelling competition for the eventual strict gold option is disappointing. I'd like to see more rewards in the spirit of the ascended weapon/armor kits, things that might not be universally useful, but a portion of the player base would consider useful, especially for the convenience of just doing the dailies/weeklies. Provisioner tokens, bundles of LS currencies, legendary shard chests, maybe even a limited amount of LIs. I think there is room for creativity here, and a lot of disappointment is going to come from making the same rough reward choices as last season.

    Edit: I can't spell

    What do you expect from a "rewards team" that has failed to deliver any meaningful rewards to any content since EoD?

    If DPS is too high to your taste, walk into a raid naked? Problem fixed! Maybe you'll even find a hidden achievement. I mean, nothing prevents anyone finding the game too easy to impose a handicap on themselves! Harder with a group, but pretty sure you can find some challenge-starved players and ask them to do the same. Makes for some content to show when advertising your guild!

    This isn't a single player game.

    If players need to artifcially handicap themselves for challenge in a MMO the devs have failed.

    Not sure if you're aware of that but there's something like 1200-1300 skills in this game and looking at how long the time between balance patches has been, it doesn't seem to be like changing condi durations and power modifiers is just "open excel, change number in a cell, done". Not to mention that it's mostly 3-4 weapons per class overperforming and plenty of others underperforming so slashing the numbers further on those underperforming weapons would be a horrible idea.

    Though dropping baseline DPS from 40-43k back to 30-33k for most efficient builds would be a healthy thing to do. Things had just the right amount of challenge at that point.

    int32 CBattleEntity::takeDamage(int32 amount, CBattleEntity* attacker /* = nullptr*/, ATTACKTYPE attackType /* = ATTACK_NONE*/, DAMAGETYPE damageType /* = DAMAGE_NONE*/, bool isDOT)
    {

     if (attackType == ATTACK_POWER)

     amount = amount * 0.5;

        return addHP(-amount);
    }

    Lots of things are more dead during Halloween than they were a week ago though. Seems to me people are farming the labyrinth and it pulls people away from all over the game. That's what brainless gold will do to the population. It doesn't even have to be tons of gold. It's mindless, so people can farm it.

    Gyala doesn't provide enough to compete, but it's done often enough. You not finding a group during the first week of Halloween doesn't make it a dead map.,  Shrugs.

    This is denial that the game is actually declining in active users.

    A lot of similar dead metas in the game. Haven't been able to complete Serpent's Ire for years, some unfinished collections are also tied to this one. Was hoping that Wizard's Vault would resurrect that content, but nope...

    BPs do not do anything beneficial for a game, ever.

    Chronomancer Mesmer can actually provide 100% uptime for both Alacrity and Quickness just by shatter spamming their clones… this is insanely easy to pull off with a Scepter.

    You will have huge issues generating clones in open world due to mobs instantly dying.

    Can people stop recommending Mesmer? It's the most frustrating and least effective open world class for giving boons.

    Sure ... but that doesn't have anything to do with Anet giving patch previews or not or whatever direction Anet wants the game to move in. I mean, if you are convinced that the devs are just playing favourites ... then you really don't need to see the previews right? You're just going to pull out the standard "Anet favours X class" every time there is a patch and be done with it. No preview required for that kind of response.

    See, that's exactly why we don't need the previews. Either you are the kind of person that complains they don't get what they want and finds some accusation to make against Anet (like it even matters) ... or you just realize that some changes are coming and you deal with them. In either case, patch previews not required.

     I mean, don't pretend like getting a preview somehow changes whatever biases exist there. It won't, whether they exist or not. The ironic thing is that when it's your own personal bias, you don't have a problem with it because you probably think it would be 'really good' if Anet did what you wanted. When it's ANet/dev biases, it's the worst thing ever!

    Customers should demand MORE from companies not LESS.

    I disagree with the statement that scourge should not have a viable pure dps option. All other "healer" specs have now pure dps build options that are close if not already viable, there is no reason for scourge to not have this option as well. (the scourge's utility isn't any more obscene than it's competitors' unsung utility)

    The main issue currently is mostly the effect of the synergy between harbinger's pistol and demonic lore. Scourge's dps wasn't really outstanding before they got access to the weapon.

    My personal opinion is that harbinger's tools (both shroud and pistol skills) should have been focused on poison instead of torment which would have saved us from this ordeal and would help balance and differentiate harbinger's identity as well.

    Other healers lose all their utility as a pure DPS. Scourge does not.

    Yea, DE was a mess at launch. But...i partially agree in any case. There should be some payout for time invested and (for me anyways) that was the biggest issue. I expect my time to be rewarded. And you can spend an hour or 2 and end up with virtually nothing. There should obviously be a reward for success, but time in should count as well (imo). And half (most?) the time it failed it was through no fault of any individual player. You could do everything "right" and still have hours and hours of time wasted. That's just bad design (again, imo). But I also acknowledge that the general complaints went far beyond that.

    The best part is they never fixed DE's biggest issue:

    Zero rewards if you fail.

    Isn't it about time to put an end to this Toxic mess by removing things?

    Actually, this update proves they aren't needed because players won't complain any LESS if they did get them and Anet makes the changes they want anyways.

    Also, no one should come to the conclusion that Anet needs 'player contribution' to have a 'deeper approach' to patches. If anything the player 'voice' is a biased, self-interest with a different goal than what Anet intends.

    Anet's balance team has been proven to be biased.

    I dont know if it is still viable for group content at least but Mirage S/S used to provide alac while basically being almost invincible and outputing ok damage due to spamming ambush skill.

    Condi Alac Mech looks interesting as well.

    Never play alac mirage, and especially don't recommend it.

    For open world and group events Alac specter, Alac Mirage,

    NEVER play alac mirage open world. Do you like feeling useless?

    Druid, Mech,  Scourge, Tempest and Renegade are the only playable alac givers.

    Yes, silverwastes is a map where the npcs need to go back to being the damage sponges (is that the term?) they once were. This will also enforce the need to break the defiance bars on the final champs. The legendaries need to go back to having legendary HP. Every time I do SW, and I'm doing 2-4 meta repeats a week, someone always calls out for slow dps. There should not be a need to request people to slow down their dps when fighting a legendary.

    They reduced power creep but not enough. The game was not built for 43k dps specs.

    I think it might be time they consider adding some utility to weaver.  The fact is other classes have gained a lot in recent years as they've attempted to ensure that all classes have support options.  Even specs like druid now have competitive DPS.  But weaver intended as purely DPS gained nothing.

    They seem to not want pure DPS specs with no utility but also won't give specs like Weaver utility.

    I think they consider conjured weapons utility.

    So we are back to all builds close to having the same benchmark which will just result in nobody playing ele because it requires much more effort, is melee, brings no boons at all and almost no utility while cvirtu is still allowed to exist. All strikes force you out of melee range but cvirtu does not care.

    This is the 2nd nerf to sw/d weaver since soto release. It was clearly overperforming with its 2% playrate.

    It's a joke. Meanwhile ranger and condi virt are perfectly ok?

    warhorn is a powerhouse. giving it to weavers, and catalysts enabled them to do insane dmg, 20% overall dps increses.

    it did less DPS than scourge.

    Weaver has zero utility, catalyst is a meme spec outside of raid bosses that never move and never force movement. The optimal quickness giver was herald. The optimal dps for 99.9999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999% of players was scourge.  It wasn't even worth playing Ele outside of extreme tryhard min maxing speed runs (that aren't relevant and give no additional rewards with no ladder/leaderboards). The developers need to stop balancing the entire game around 10 players.
