  1. I know this change stems from PvP, but holy crap this is SUCH a BAD change for PvE! Virtuoso in Open World has always been "kinda bad" but after this change it's gonna be straight trash tier. Hey Anet and CMC, not every Mesmer wants to run their solo play as Staff Mirage! Give us some diversity for crying out loud.
  2. There are a number of systems in this game which could use some cleanup, streamlining, and general QoL improvements. However, character creation is not one of them. The GW2 character customization is significantly better than most other MMOs.
  3. It would be nice, especially if they optimized reflections to ignore the giant pool of water underneath each map zone. Why this game reflects water you can't see in the first place is beyond me xD
  4. You can enable Supersampling if you want better AA. The other features you mentioned I doubt will ever happen. If they have the resources for it, great! I just hope their #1 goal is performance optimization. This game, IMO, is already beautiful. The watercolor art style is timeless and if they could just improve optimization I would be happy if they never touched graphics again.
  5. Yes this needs fixed please! Can't use Nvidia's upscaling without fullscreen mode. If they could fix the graphics pipeline to feed a lot to the GPU instead of the CPU, this in conjunction with Nvidia's upscaling feature would result in a bajillion FPS and really smooth WvW :D
  6. I've done Drakkar several times, many other large-scale events, and participated in pretty much every crowded festival event post-DX11 beta release. So luckily by your logic, I am indeed in a position to provide feedback on the DX11 beta. Some hardware configs may contribute towards the frequency of crashing, of which I experience very little. So perhaps I am lucky, but that does not make my experience with the beta invalid. Man, what's up with this community? Almost every time I see a request, question, or suggestion, there's ALWAYS a response like this. "However...[insert some other feature] should be worked on instead." Is that what the topic is about? No. Am I suggesting this is an "either or" scenario? No. Should other aspects of the DX11 port be improved? Absolutely. There's nothing here implying otherwise. Just because someone has a concern about a particular feature does not imply that other features of the game should be ignored or put lower on some priority list. Then you have the audacity to tell me my experience with the game is not valid. Send me all the confused-emojis you want, but man, you sure come off as rude. You could learn a thing or two from Solstice.1847 over here, at least they shared their experience with DX11 in a respectful manner. ANYWAYS... My question still remains for anyone who might be "in the know"... Can we expect some performance improvements related to the number of characters on-screen?
  7. I have some texture issues but have not crashed in over a month, it's very much a playable experience. Unless of course I'm in a crowded area, then my CPU starts crying....
  8. Devs, Thanks for bringing DX11 to GW2! That being said, the game still requires a MONSEROUS processor if you want to set the Character Model Limit to anything above Medium. I'm over here with a 6-core i7-9750H that boosts to 4Ghz and this game STILL kicks the crap out of it... Meanwhile my GPU is only being utilized at 13%, sipping whine and laughing at my CPU like Leonardo DiCaprio. So my question is... With EoD right around the corner, is there any possibility that we will see further improvements to CPU utilization and optimizing multiple characters on-screen? While the current DX11 beta is appreciated (and I don't mean to sound like a spoiled brat), there are a plethora of other online games that handle multiple units on-screen much more efficiently so it really concerns me that we're not seeing this with GW2.
  9. Oh, I agree. Engi is the most neglected and hodge-podged together class in the game. I'm not suggesting we sacrifice function over form. But it's still something that I feel needs to be addressed at some point.
  10. Note to forum admin: Consider this before moving this to the "Suggestions" megathread. My suggestions in this post are supplementary, NOT the primary focus of the post. Don't just move this post cause I have a suggestion near the bottom. This post is primarily aimed at the Devs' boss(s), cause contrary to popular belief, the devs themselves don't make a lot of decisions. I'm here to make an argument for Engineer kit and turret skins. I've made a similar post in the EoD sub-forum, however my ideas there were spread across multiple posts and likely will not be seen. This post is an attempt to condense those ideas into a single post. Firstly, let me address the following counter-argument: "But if we make Engineer skins, we'll have to make skins for other classes too!" No, no, NO! Let me tell you why you're wrong. Every example of 'non-optional design' that you could possibly think of isn't even close to the concept of the Engineer class. You could argue that Necros need minion skins, Elementalist needs conjured weapon skins, or Rangers need color variations for pets. The problem with this argument is that ALL possible examples are either a temporary effect, or do not replace your character's primary weapon. Engineer kits not only replace your primary weapon, they also replace your combat skills. Elementalist conjured weapons are the closest by comparison, but even those don't count because fire should look like fire, and ice should look like ice. Those weapons are made from primal elements after all. Moving on... Why Engineers Need Turret and Kit Skins It’s implied that engineers design their own weapons. Much like a car, invented devices come in all shapes, sizes, colors, styles…etc. But under the hood, cars all serve the same basic function. If you asked two real-life engineers to design a product, unaware of the other engineer, they'd likely come up with something that doesn't look like the other. So then, I wonder, why are they all the kits and turrets made from dark brown wood and dingy iron? The fundamental difference that separates Engineers from other classes and justifies the need for skins is that our devices are presumably crafted by our character themselves. Kits and turrets are like cars, they can be made from all sorts of materials which would inherently cause differences in shape and color while still serving the same function. As an engineer, creating devices is as much about art as it is function/purpose. A suggestion, take it or leave it... I would be happy even with just "race" themed Engi skins. We don't need a bunch of skins, honestly any amount more than 1 is better than the default we currently have. These race themed skins would not be restricted to your character's race, but could be swapped in and out just like any other cosmetic. Charr = Lots of iron, spikey bits, and maybe some fire/smoke, similar to other Charr-themed weapons. Human = Lots of steel accents, similar to Krytan design. Norn = Lots of wooden accents with engravings Asura = Lots of blue tints and glowy accents that look like a hologram and/or lazer. Sylvari = Lots of wooden accents that look like vines instead of a solid piece of wood, glowy bits that are green, and purple bits similar to the "glass-like" appearance of Slyvari blades that currently exist in the game. How it'd be implemented: Create an F6 skill that cannot be used in combat. This skill simply cycles between the 5 race skins and would apply to all kits, turrets, and the Mech in EoD. FINAL CLOSING STATEMENT: GW2 is a lot about player choice... From that stats we pick to the wardrobe we choose. Please, if you're going to give us an Engineer who makes their own weapons (and physically replaces our primary weapon AND combat skills), give players the freedom to express their character's design choice. After all, our character MADE them and this is what separates the Engineer from other classes to justify the need for skins.
  11. Adding further to my previous message, and also to argue why your line of thinking is (no offense) flawed: The closest example you provided was elemental weapons, however those don’t count either, because they’re conjured from raw elements. It makes sense that fire looks like fire, and ice looks like ice. It’s implied that engineers design their own weapons. Much like a car, they come in all shapes, sizes, colors, styles…etc. But under the hood, they all serve the same basic function. With the case of Engi’s kits, why are they all made from dark brown wood and dingy iron? The fundamental difference is that kits are like cars, they can be made from all sorts of materials which would inherently cause differences in shape and color. As an engineer, creating devices is as much about art as it is function/purpose. The “middle finger” comes from our inability to choose even basic skins for devices that our character presumably crafted themselves. Honestly even “race themed” skins would be enough. Lots of steel for Humans, glowy blue stuff for Asura, wood with engravings for Norn, Iron and rugged for Charr, organic green glowy for Sylvari. And even if you’re not the respective race, we should be able to swap those styles like any other weapon skin.
  12. Sorry but none of those examples are a primary weapon that simultaneously replaces your combat skills, unlike the case with Engi. The big difference is that kits are meant to substitute in-combat weapon swapping. The majority of your examples are temporary effects which do not replace your held weapon, or if they do, it doesn’t replace skills nor attempts to substitute weapon swapping. Notice how I didn’t mention turrets, which would be akin to your other examples. If it’s a primary weapon or weapon that completely replaces what’s held in-hand, customization options should be available. Especially in this case where it’s a substitute for weapon swapping.
  13. I hope they have a change of heart. For a game that makes a good chunk of its money from aesthetic gem items, knowing players appreciate cosmetic cohesion, they sure gave Engi the middle finger…
  14. Yo devs, Are we going to be able to customize the appearance of Engineer kit weapons or the new Mech? I'm over here lookin fine like Tony Stark in my Exo Suit, but my kits look like they're made from junk scraps...
  15. GW2 Devs, Please give us more options and control over our graphical settings with the DX11 update. ---------------------------------------------------------------- GRAPHICS ---------------------------------------------------------------- Critical feature: Colorblind mode. The most common types are... Deuteranomaly Protanomaly Protanopia I understand that there are external shader tools which players can use to achieve this. However, having to resort to an external tool for such a BASIC thing is, to me, quite silly. My colorblindness falls under Deuteranomaly, and I would really appreciate this. Quality of life features: Particle density. Adjust how intense particle effects are. This should effect not only abilities, but also armor/"fashion" effects. PvE boss fights are practically firework shows and I can hardly see the boss itself. I understand that particle density can be reduced already, but this feature is bundled with other effects which should be treated separately. Reduce trivial ally effects. Adjust all ability particle and ground effects by allied players/NPCs if the effect is not a buff or heal of some kind. This acts as a negative multiplier in conjunction with "Particle density" Reduce trivial enemy effects. Adjust all ability particle and ground effects by enemy players/NPCs if the effect is not a debuff or harmful to you in some way. This acts as a negative multiplier in conjunction with "Particle density" Bloom intensity. The current bloom options are way too intense, please let us adjust it separately. Dynamic animation quality (combat). Reduce unit animation quality if there are more than X units on screen (combat only). Dynamic animation quality (non-combat). Reduce unit animation quality if there are more than X units on screen (out of combat only). ---------------------------------------------------------------- INTERFACE/CAMERA OPTIONS ---------------------------------------------------------------- Quality of life features: Encounter camera zoom max. When the player enters a boss encounter, let us designate our own preferred maximum camera zoom. For me, the default zooms out way too much, so I zoom in a bit and when the encounter is over then I'm zoomed in TOO much. Emphasize target nameplate. Enlarges the size of our primary target's nameplate. "Nit-picky"/Trivial feature change: Re-name "AoE Loot" to simply "Loot" in the interaction pop-up. AoE means Area of Effect, the player is not creating any sort of Area of Effect and naming it as such looks weird every time it pops up on the screen. The name within the options menu is fine the way it is - I'm only asking that the interaction pop-up be changed.
  16. Thank you everyone, It seems I misunderstood a great deal regarding cosmetic options. However, since everyone else is experienced with the game and familiar with the systems, I wonder if maybe there needs to be a more in-depth tutorial on the cosmetic systems in the game. There's so many nuggets of info in this thread that I would have never known about just relying on in-game resources. However my thoughts about loot and crafting remain unchanged lol
  17. I'd understand that for random NPC drops, but chests and achievement loot? The game is essentially rewarding me with crafting reagents instead of helping my character progress or at the very least unlock skins for my actual armor type. It just seems very underwhelming.
  18. 1) What if none of the pre-made outfits suit my taste? What if I want a different color scheme? 2) Isn't that useless for leveling? Additionally it looks pretty.... lame. "You will be unable to fight while transformed."
  19. Maintaining a cosmetic appearance while on a sub-80 character would be very costly, since you're swapping new gear all the time as you progress. That's assuming you don't make a mistake or discover a new appearance/setup. My point with the optional subscription would be to circumvent that issue with unlimited transmutations.
  20. EDIT: This is an old post, I was a WoW refugee then. Now in 2022, I wholeheartedly disagree with my own statements made here. If you're creeping on my post history, just keep this in mind. ORIGINAL POST BELOW - NOTHING ELSE IS EDITED BEYOND 2022. ---------------------------------------------------- First of all, I'm really enjoying my time with GW2. I really like that the game respects my time and pretty much every activity has interesting rewards. I've been playing MMOs for 11+ years and have decided to make GW2 my new home. As a new player who has tried many online systems, I'd like to offer some feedback to the GW2 devs on how (I think) the game could be even better and retain even more new players. I'll start with the part mentioned in the title. As a new player, how can ArenaNet get me to give YOU more money? Cosmetic-focused monthly rewards via an optional subscription. If there were an option for, say, a $10 USD/month subscription with the following benefits, I'd absolutely sign up! 575 Gems per month to do with as I please Unlimited item transmutations. (yes, even while leveling up, I'd like to maintain "my cool look" when I get a new item). (Having to buy transmutation charges and use them every time I get new gear while leveling up would be very costly... I'd rather not spend any money at all in this case. $10 vs $0... You feel me?) Two "free" dyes every month which are guaranteed to not be duplicates of what I already have Permanent +10% exp on all sub-80 characters Stackable gathering tools, up-to 500 per tool. (No, I'm not asking you to make new tools - just allow the existing ones to stack) -------------- EDIT: Thank you everyone, It seems I misunderstood a great deal regarding cosmetic options. However, since everyone else is experienced with the game and familiar with the systems, it may be difficult for you all to gauge just how cobbled-together the cosmetics systems are, particularly with a "custom" outfit. I wonder if maybe there needs to be a more in-depth tutorial on the cosmetic systems in the game. There's so many nuggets of info in this thread that I would have never known about just relying on in-game resources. However my thoughts about loot and crafting remain unchanged lol -------------- Now, moving on to some things that I wish were different... Crafting When it comes to recipe ingredients, I really wish the crafting system was simplified. Instead of converting, say, bronze ingots into an axe head, and then some wood into the handle, only to then be converted into something else.... Could we just have less items cluttering the crafting menu? Instead of the recipe calling for an axe head and handle, it'd be much simpler to call for [X-amount] ingots and [X-amount] wood. I understand this conflicts with the Discovery system, but that could easily be fixed by allowing the player to select an "item category" in the Discovery window. So if I wanted to discover a new axe recipe, I'd select the axe category and dump in some ingots, wood, and a gem. Loot/Activity rewards Why oh why am I getting loot that my class can't ever use? I wish there were a looting system that only gave relevant rewards. Items dropped from killing things can be left alone, but when I reach the end of a jumping puzzle or unlock an achievement, I shouldn't be "rewarded" with useless stuff for my class. I understand that this may not be the case for 80 characters, as acquiring new items can be sent to other characters either for their stats or appearance. But, if I'm playing a sub-80 character, I shouldn't be getting a staff or cloth shoulders on my Warrior... Closing thoughts... The ideas and opinions expressed in this post are based on several years of MMO experience and deciding for myself what aspects of a game make a positive or negative experience as a new player. I really like GW2 and will continue to play it regardless of this feedback being considered - but just know this: The loot and crafting for new players could use some work. And if you want me to spend $10 instead of $0 in your gem store, please be aware that cosmetic-focused rewards are VERY appealing to a lot of people. Seriously, I'm the kind of player that would rather look cool than have optimal stats... I'd spend a few extra bucks if I could have the best of both worlds ;) As a gentle reminder for non-Devs reading this, I'm a newbie here and just expressing my thoughts about the game in a constructive way. My experiences with the GW2 community thus-far has been very pleasant and welcoming, so I hope that trend continues and that any feedback I get is cordial and constructive.
