  1. End of Dragons, but Kunavaang, Albax and Aurene are still around. NPCs also welcome in the "Age of Aurene". For as central as an issue the Void is, we really glossed over it. Aurene and party say they're concerned about her absorbing the corrupted magic, but there's never an issue. So we have an immortal, all powerful dragon who can see all the ley-lines and absorb any kind of magic. I hate the phrase, but a lot of writing seemed "woke" too. It felt like it was written as if the characters were actually in the year 2022 instead of Tyria. I thought we were gonna end in a climax where Aurene sacrifices herself to save Tyria from the Void. Instead it was just "kill another Elder Dragon and let's go home". The maps are huge, but feel really empty. Lots of NPCs with no lines. Tons of empty spaces due to it being designed for people using mounts. Meta events seems unusually more difficult than previous metas. I know some got nerfed after release, but this is year 10 of GW2. Hoped we wouldn't retread the same mistakes. Music and voice acting are absolutely phenomenal. No Luxon or Kurzick armor, no dragon weapons or armor set like in previous Elder Dragon metas, pre-meta events are super unrewarding. The main rewards are for crafting a legendary gear. But what % of players actually craft legendary armor/weapons. Anet had to rush to get this out after IBS and it shows.
  2. Blame anet for bad scaling, but when you popped your mentor tag more people joined the event, increasing the scaling. Ignoring chat didn't help either. As soon as it scales too high doing the event is just a waste of time. So their frustration sounds a bit warranted. Obviously idk what exactly they said to you, but if you popped your tag causing the event to scale up, which then caused the event to fail...
  3. Ironically I've been playing since launch. The DE meta frustration is what made me actually post :)
  4. Not saying anything about GW2. Just telling you to be prepared because it's so short. Like I said I came from SWTOR to GW2. 7.0 was super short. Not sure on the rules on this forum about talking about other games in a EoD thread tho. I've given my criticism of EoD basically since I started using the forums lol.
  5. Having played it(and gone to GW2 from it). You'll be on it for about 3 hours. It's literally the shortest expansion they've released. It's on life support.
  6. Hard disagree. Let's say the meta was easier. Why would anyone bother doing it if the rewards aren't there? What are you getting from this event that you can't get from others? Once you've gotten the turtle other metas require less time, effort and have greater rewards. After the initial completion and 'wow' factor are gone, like other people said, the map is empty. Once the rewards are worth it, experienced players will flock back to the event. Till then their experience can get them better rewards pretty much anywhere else.
  7. It's under General. "Increased the Memories of Aurene reward for the Battle of the Jade Sea meta-event." That's it.
  8. I don't see the majority of players taking the time to craft a precursor into a legendary. So outside of selling the Memories the rewards are pretty bad in this meta. I'm guessing that this expansion was more rushed than Anet would like to admit, which is why we didn't get any meta specific weapons or armor for completion. That and no Kurz/Lux armor sets makes it EoD feel really bare bones after the initial story completion and the wonder of new maps wear off. And it's not like the Siege Turtle in the vast majority of content either.
  9. This is what killed the meta for me. Outside of the turtle there's no reason to do the meta. Memories of Aurene drop in Dragonstorm meta (and chance from Dragonfall), there's no ascended weapons like there is for other dragons and not even an exotic armor set like we had for Dragon's Stand. Even if they fix all the bugs (anyone find it strange they didn't mention what the "rare bug" was?) or make adjustments, once people get the turtle there's nothing bringing them back for the new players. WoodenPotatoes made a good point on one of his recent LPs for EoD. The people who have beat the expansion and are attempting the meta in the first week are the most dedicated and (typically) experienced players. Once all of them have gotten a few runs through there's going to just be new players struggling and getting disappointed with the rewards all over again.
  10. DPS really isn't the issue. It's CC for burn phases and movement for Tail phase. If you can get everyone on Tail or using their CC when the head's break bar appears you'll do fine. I've seen groups try to split damage on head and tail at the same time, but since there's 60% dmg reduction while tail is up there's really no point. So it all comes down to communication (and portals if you have them). I almost want to say as far as DPS goes run whatever you want. In a group of 50+ people even if you're top DPS the bottom 10-15 people are still what's dragging the group down. Those are the people who don't go to the forums, don't care about builds and are just having fun in their own way. Support builds are 100% important though.
  11. That's the thing about meta events. It should be designed where the map chat isn't absolutely required. Failing a Tail or break bar is devastating for DPS. Fail 2 and you might as well pack it up and try on a fresh map. Timer is so tight there's little room for failure.
  12. This isn't the point you think you're making. Those maps are several years old and most were nerfed. What kind of design/QA process does Anet have that we're running into difficult, near impossible OW meta events 10 years after launch? How do you design an entire map around the meta event, require players to put in 2hrs of work just for the final boss to say "Sike! I'm gonna go spam all my damage reduction/immune mechanics back to back". Or "Hope the RNG chose a player for wisps who knows what they're doing. Otherwise have fun sitting on your hands for 75 seconds". OR "Great job beating the meta, take your meh at best rewards. Better hope you got 10 stacks for the buff ;)". GW2 came out in 2012. At what point do we expect them to have learned from previous meta events? I've already got my turtle. Tell me why there's any reason I should bang my head against the wall to do this again? For a legendary mat that I can get at Dragonstorm?
  13. There's so much visual noise during this fight. The other players, the adds, food & United Legions Waystations, Soo-Won vs- Soo-Won's Tail, all the effects going off and then she even moves the her body away from the original position (but not really). Don't forget to pay attention to callouts too. I'm not even mad at the players anymore. Overall, there's so much going on during this fight I imagine it's overwhelming for a lot of people.
  14. RNG is the problem. We can debate on numbers, but with RNG the way it is 5 feels like a more solid number. 2 minutes can be eaten up real quick if she decides she doesn't want to be hit or people are running back and forth between multiple tail phases. Yup, seeing it all over the forums and in map chat. Once people get their completion they're never stepping foot into this meta again. If you really need Memories of Aurene just do Dragonstorm once a day. More likely than successfully completing DE multiple times a day.
  15. People post their attempts on the interwebs. Plus doing it more than a handful of times you'll see there's no pattern. I don't think anet provides any official mechanic guide for any of their bosses.
  16. It's a meta event. Who cares? Increasing time is a lot more likely than somehow reworking all the mechanics to get rid of RNG & back to back invuln/damage reduction phases too.
  17. I managed to beat it a second time last night with 7 seconds left. From 15%-0 she went into like 3 tail phases and swoops. DPS was never an issue until we literally couldn't attack or she had dmg reduction. Break bars went down in an instant. I've been playing MMOs since GW1. I have never seen a boss with so much RNG that it can make or break even the most prepared groups. The rewards aren't even worth subsequent completions. Just like other dragon meta events you get 5 Memory of Aurene. The other chests are basically normal and just drop the standard loot with a chance for Saltspray weapons. Once people get their turtles there's 0 reasons to do it again. Even if there's some rare drop, the meta is so arduous that it's not worth it for the vast majority of players.
  18. No idea why RNG is a factor for which mechanics are used. Had another group do everything perfectly. Buffs, green, DPS and even the wave. Soo decided she wanted to use her tail attacks and evade for basically the last 35% of the fight. We were at 50% with 10 minutes left over and failed at 25%. Got 2 breakbars, but people were constantly running to tail. Not to mention the visual madness of trying to target the right thing between Soo, mobs and bubbles. And then she moves below the arena sometimes so new people just stop attacking. This just isn't fun.
  19. I don't see how they tested this without seeing the same issues players have been talking about since launch day let alone 4 days in the expansion. The length of the pre-meta setup, the complexity of the mechanics (for OW meta), wisp eating 2 minutes, failure effectively wasting your time since the pre-meta doesn't give worthwhile rewards. I've only managed to beat the meta once, but I didn't see any of the non-turtle chest rewards make doing this meta worth it more than once either.
  20. I think that's part of the problem. They're doing a meta event that basically requires communication, but they're not communicating. So is the problem the meta event or the players? I'm not saying everyone on the map has to do the meta, but if anet wants the metas to be this difficult then not being in map/squad chat can and often ruins the DE meta runs. I don't actually think they're trolling, but there's not really a difference other than intent and I don't know intent because they're not in chat.
  21. Players doing the mechanic when the 99% of everyone is attempting to skip is trolling. Or they're not using chat which is just a bad for a meta event. It's effectively an auto-fail at that point. The meta is 'difficult' enough to where everyone has to be on the same page. If 30 people screaming "get off green" or "no green" doesn't get you to get off green idk what else you wanna call that.
