    Your statement goes both ways.

Unless you work for Anet you can't say that it's not a problem for them. It's disingenuous at best

What is YOUR position with ANet?

If it were, they would have done something about it. Again, take mount-gate as an example. They stood to really kitten-off the player base and lose money, so they almost immediately made changes. If Belgium players being unable to get statuettes was enough of a problem, then I think that Anet would have done something about it way before this thread opened.

It's common sense for anyone to see that it's a considerable issue for gaming companies especially with the studies/legislation and lawsuits going on as we speak, some of which I mentioned above. Again, this is a newer controversy that has gotten more attention over the last 3 years or so, which means it's early in terms of legislation for many countries. It was two years ago that legislators began to urge the FTC to look into the practice which finally resulted in their initial findings released just two months ago. You don't need to work for a company to get this information. There's been numerous articles and news reports about it over the last couple of years. I just googled and some of these came up:

    https://www.theverge.com/2019/2/19/18226852/loot-boxes-gaming-regulation-gambling-free-to-playhttps://www.tomsguide.com/us/what-are-loot-boxes-microtransactions,news-26161.html

https://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2020-10-22-ea-faces-class-action-lawsuit-over-loot-boxes-in-canadahttps://www.classaction.org/blog/class-actions-claim-apple-google-facilitate-illegal-gambling-through-in-game-loot-box-purchaseshttps://www.bbc.com/news/technology-53253195 Loot boxes: Lords call for 'immediate' gambling regulationhttps://www.theguardian.com/games/2020/jun/07/uk-could-class-loot-boxes-as-gambling-to-protect-children

in addition, S.1629 — 116th Congress (2019-2020) A bill to regulate certain pay-to-win micro-transactions and sales of loot boxes in interactive digital entertainment products, and for other purposes was introduced as well. From what I can tell it was only read twice at this point. From a technological and legislative standpoint, I find the whole issue very fascinating and it will be interesting to see how it plays out in the future. However, it's naive to think that gaming companies (including ArenaNet/NCSoft) don't think this to be a concern, especially in the midst of all this.

What's flawed is thinking that it's not an issue for Anet.Clearly, it is not an issue for Anet or else they would have made some change back when these laws started. Mount-gate was a fiasco and was a huge issue for Anet, so much so that they almost immediately changed the way in which mount skins were sold. I don't see them scrambling to make changes to the way in which statuettes are obtained because some countries block the purchase of keys.

@Treacy.4067 said:So what the OP is suggesting is giving an alternative way to earn those statuettes. It's a valid premise.I disagree because it is a solution that is looking for a problem. A problem that appears that Anet doesn't see as one.

@kharmin.7683 said:What's in it for Anet to make this change? Sure, we all want easier access to things in GW2, but the current model earns the company profit. How would this change benefit Anet?

Even more money for Anet because people in anti-lootbox regions can now spend money on statuettes in the gemstore while still selling the same amount of black lion keys.If this were indeed the case, then I would think that Anet would have changed something by now. They have their own statistics and internal financial figures. It would seem that they are content with the status quo. To me, that says that the reason that you suggest is not a strong enough benefit. Perhaps if you had something stronger, it would be considered?

Everyone, please don't get me wrong. I hate spending money/gems for keys and would also like to have statuettes available by other means. I just don't see why Anet would want to do so.

Unless you work for Anet you can't say that it's not a problem for them. It's disingenuous at best because I'm assuming you know the situation isn't resolved. The fact that countries have not only enacted laws but are actively considering legislation and investigating this issue is proof that it's a concern and you can bet it's being addressed internally at gaming companies. The FTC also gave a press release only two months ago regarding loot boxes:

"Since the workshop, the video game industry hastaken steps to enhance self-regulation, including through odds and point-of-purchase disclosures. In recent months, there also has been a rise in video gameplay due to the COVID19 globalpandemic that has kept a significant percentage of the population indoors, potentiallyamplifying the loot box concerns raised at the workshop. Staff encourages industry to continueefforts to provide clear and meaningful information to consumers about in-game loot box andrelated microtransactions. The FTC will continue to monitor developments surrounding lootboxes and take appropriate steps to prevent unfair or deceptive practices.

Regarding the FTC in the US, it's still early but it's very likely that gaming companies have a contingency plan if something similar happens. Some won't make changes until forced to do so as is what happened in Belgium whilst others will proactively make some alterations to their policies slowly over time. Bottom line is, it's a problem not just for ArenaNet but for all gaming companies and it will be interesting to see how it plays out since it's still an ongoing debate.

What's flawed is thinking that it's not an issue for Anet. Loot boxes are controversial and governments are either banning it outright or talking about regulating it. This means people are currently locked out from purchasing or will be in the future so it's definitely a problem for Anet and other gaming companies. In fact the the issue of loot boxes have opened the floodgates really with regards to scrutiny. Just 3 months ago the IMCO committee released a study and recommendations to the EU regarding this very issue and the results and recommendations were rather interesting. It goes beyond just loot boxes for example, focusing on protections for gaming consumers in general when it comes to monetary practices.

"Given the issues around loot boxes, according to interviewed experts from industry, regulation and aconsumer organisation, many game developers and publishers are increasingly moving away fromloot boxes and they are using other forms of in-game purchases and other business models..."

So what the OP is suggesting is giving an alternative way to earn those statuettes. It's a valid premise.

If your computer cannot take it, lower the graphic settings? Don't expect smooth gameplay when you set every thing on very high or high on a outdated computer or graphic card. We are going into 2021 soon, time to upgrade that pc or network connection.

This is actually a great argument as to why there should be an option to turn off visual clutter if someone so desires. Let the individual decide what they want to see. Giving this option to filter out the effects is similar to the option already in place to turn character model quality low. It literally has no effect on those wearing them since they can still display it for themselves and everyone else that wants to see it.

this kind of stuff makes these forums a bit of a joke, almost disparaging

That doesn't absolve you either for starting it. Toxicity begets toxicity unfortunately and it's uncalled for either way. There's some good tips in this thread for you and others to try out if you're struggling. If anyone is still having trouble and play on NA let me know and I can help out.

  6. @BnooMaGoo.5690 said:Wow is this still going on? I stopped reading & pretty much stopped playing regularly since some of the nasties weighed in. I haven't bothered trying that instance again, I am looking for another game to invest my time and money in for the time being.

I see a lot of people trying to help and explain things. When you create a post like this, expect people to continue on the discussion as others might also benefit from it. That's how forums work. Also you have made two posts disparaging others here. When I run into a tough fight I try to learn the mechanics and try new things and adapt either on my own or after asking for tips from other people. It's what I expect from a fun game, a little challenge every now and then.

I got owned the first time I did this pre-fix as a melee because it kept healing and I remember a blink-and-you-miss-it break bar. I just kept at it and adjusted until I beat it. It's much more forgiving now since the change which is good because although I love challenging boss fights, I do think the story should be accessible to most. I just wish we had more challenge mote options for story fights.

  7. I run this story instance a lot. Ever since I started warning people not to jump into the air vents I rarely see this bug. I'm not certain that this is what's causing it but from running that instance a million times it seems so. Despite my warnings, I've had a handful of people shoot out over the last year and when I asked them if they jumped into it, they all said yes. Again though, this could just be a coincidence.

  8. This boss was rough on release before the nerf but now it's pretty easy. You either commit to breaking the bar or ignore it altogether (which I recommend to most people) and just run away when you see the chain appear on you or just before. You just dps it, then run away until it stops draining health with the Inhale mechanic., then back to dps, rinse and repeat.

  9. @yoni.7015 said:I don’t have any lags in these maps. Don’t know what you are talking about. Maybe your internet connection is not the best. I didn’t have to pay for any of the LS4 maps.

Maybe you're not aware but LW S4 is content that is currently purchasable. There has been an issue with lag in those particular maps relative to the rest of the game. They are map-wide spikes where the chat fills up with complaints all having the same issue at the exact same time. Two points of note: this didn't use to happen and it occurs even when the map isn't full. It also affects users with great internet and high-end pcs. I think that is the point of contention.

  10. I'm not sure if any of those were actual bugs or not, could be. In my experience though, I have seen people claim something is bugged but they either have to wait for the next event to trigger, ress a downed npc, kill one last mob, or finish a different event, etc, in order to press forward. With that said however, I do have to admit that this game has a fair share of bugs unfortunately.

  11. @frareanselm.1925 said:The rest of players werer reves and a daredevil, all of them grown, with tons of dominion points and good gear (exotic or ascended).

How do you know what gear they have or care? It's a dungeon not a raid. Also, ArcDPS doesn't give the full story with regards to party contribution both in terms of dps, healing, CC, etc. Maybe you're not aware of that. If anything you're proving that scaling works. Ultimately though, this isn't about scaling. This game has more of an emphasis on skills and ability rather than gear. I wouldn't be surprised if they were taking it easy so as not to faceroll and ruin the experience for you new players. For you to be upset by this, sounds like maybe you're the one that wanted the carry because apparently your run wasn't fast enough.

  12. @misterman.1530 said:Well, this has been going on for weeks. Still no luck. I would pay GEMS to get a contract that says I completed the meta. I really would.

I whispered and mailed you a few times over the last week telling you when I was commanding Serpent's Ire. We even agreed on a later date and time that suited you (ran it specifically for you) but then you couldn't come when we started. irl happens I get it, but I did try lol.

  13. Anet had a chance to implement this in a way that would make a more cohesive story for new players and in the end, make a stronger product. Gating the season 1 stuff behind all this bs and making players spoil themselves in order to do things in order was a terrible decision. I mean it's a real head-scratcher. For a game that invests so strongly into story, this was a boneheaded move.

  14. I'm getting the same thing. It says "IP restrictions are enabled. Access may require connecting to an office network or VPN. Contact your Zendesk administrator for help." Im in the US. I've never had to contact support before so I wasn't sure what was happening.
Edit: It's saying on the forum that this particular post is answered but I'm not seeing any answers as to why people are having their IP blocked. What's going on?

  15. @LucianDK.8615 said:Great change, seriously reduces the clutter of dailies to do.

This is such a ridiculous thing to focus on. Who cares about the UI having a list of dailies to do? This is a terrible change, one that will have me visiting those maps much less than I did before. Don't punish people for wanting to do specific content or for starting content later. Removing rewards like this unnecessarily is never a good thing. As someone that tags and spends a lot of time in those maps, I don't have the desire to go there now. This is a bad move.
