@Substance E, forget about Untamed... druid needs pet stow in WvW.

Aside from veil pushes, it wouldn't change much

Druid more or less completely ignores the pet and that's a good thing

Nudging Anet to give us more team support in exchange for less personal sustain and pet pressure means the Druid gets better at what it;s meant to do without risking nerfs from OP solo builds like we've dealt with for the last several years since PoF

  2. Nothing ground breaking but at least we didn't become objectively worse which is a monumental achievement for the balance team

Untamed is still DOA in WvW though

No amount of AoE spam on hammer is going to change this

The pet will still die instantly in anything more than 10 v 10 and melee hammer aoe will always be worse than ranged Rev hammer aoe

GS/A-A soulbeast is still gonna out perform it, even more so now that we can swap fused pets

They either need to retool the spec completely or just abandon their goals of making it our "WvW spec" and focus on improving the viability of druid. Even just getting a single slot in a guild group to babysit the commander is still better than being told to bring another class

I'd baseline flanking and have LoYF just make the shortbow range be 1200.  You almost always take it with shortbow anyway, and if you didn't, then the tradeoff is the 900 its currently at.

As it never made sense to me why shortbow is 900 when axe is.  It should be axe at 900, shortbow at 1200, and longbow at 1500.

900 range shortbow is a fossil from the bygone days when short bow zerk builds were our highest dps and literally were just us auto attacking

Getting 1500 per hit, 100% crit chance autos off was considered "really good"

Anet couldn't think of a better way to make the weapon better beyond it's auto attack so they just nerfed the attack speed and the range so people would stop using it altogether (until condi builds became a thing) and stopped making the game look like a clown fiesta (back before they stopped caring about such things)

It feels like Anet played their hand too soon with HoT, at least imo,  it will always feel like the biggest and most successful expansion. But they did seem to have more staff back then plus they did introduce a lot of new systems with it like masteries and elite specs, etc.

HoT hit the hardest because it added so many mechanical features to the game

PoF and, by a greater margin EoD, feel much weaker in comparison because they lean so hard on "skins and overworld fluff are now content" which gets old fast and has no impact unless you're on the maps

Remove everything it added to the core game and HoT would feel just as bland even if people still enjoyed the unlimited, 0 effort loot from auric basin

It also came out back when it still felt like the game was going places and could only ever get bigger and better while current year GW2 is coasting on pure inertia at this point on a flat plane

It created the place we've been in since POF - no other ranger spec, Untamed included, can compete with Soulbeast for damage.

    Okay and?

Soulbeast offers nothing but damage now

Druid is a healbot and untamed will probably end up as a "good for pvp and spamming alacrity in pve with middling damage slot"

Are ranger players just not supposed to ever roll dps again? They aren't going to buff up vanilla and untamed to "meta" benchmarks, especially not after giving us perma alac on untamed with hammer stun spam

I'm thinking and hoping that's badly worded and that the idea is for ranger to get away from the Sic' Em meta, and eventually fit into the high skill ceiling that untamed was designed for.

I feel like you're giving the GW2 general player base too much credit

Many people can't even time dodgerolls

Anet assuming that "press 3 skills when the break bar breaks" seems pretty on point when it comes to "high skill play" for this game at this point

They should have just focused on the "keep your skills on cooldown at all times for best performance" aspect of untamed instead of ruining soulbeast's identity

Is sword even used in pve? Lol I only use it in pvp where when I leap for the nodes.

I don't think it ever beat out dagger for total BIS performance (maybe right at PoF launch when dagger was trash) but it was comparable

Getting the same damage but with no drop off when kiting and having more aoe is gonna make it totally obsolete

It's pretty much the only reason that split blade did great damage in pvp but not in pve. I can't even name another skill that worked like that.

After this update, I doubt anyone will ever use it in pve other than for roleplay like dagger offhand

Just want to say this after solid reinforcing experiences doing the last 3 nights of CM fractals.

At first people were excited to use and accept the presence of Druid, until they quickly began to remember why Firebrand is so much better as the central party Support, because Druid does not have access to Stability & Aegis. A Firebrand can preemptively buff the party with Aegis & Stab when he knows a phase is about to pop that throws many CCs and many strikes that are difficult to avoid. The Firebrand can preemptively mitigate a lot damage before it happens due to this. And most of his skills are instant cast use so he can do damage mitigate and healing at the same time. The Druid has no method whatsoever to preemptively mitigate damage. The Druid has react AFTER the party takes damage and all of its healing is long dedicated animations.

LFG formations are now shifting back to asking specifically for HB Support while accepting the presence of Renegade & Mechanist Alacrity, and then of course whatever DPS that brings Quickness if the HB doesn't already have it.

This patch changed nothing for end-game play in T4s/CMs. Can't speak for Raids/Strikes. I'll let someone else do that.

And again, the Alarcrity isn't even applicable on Soulbeast because the Soulbeast can't keep them alive with burst healing in the same way the Druid can. They die way too fast without Druid burst heal.

This is ultimately why slap dash fixes like "just make spirits give alacrity" were never going to work the way people hoped

Years of "healbrand is best support" combined with the utterly brain dead ease of use and generally foolproof execution of the kit means people will just default to FB when pugging

People want what they know and what they know to work

Boon spam druid is too new to have general confidence and if it can't flawlessly perform when even a trained monkey is playing it, people will just rather have the FB when it comes to blasting through content as fast as possible with the lowest chance of some rando mucking things up

It doesn't matter how much better on paper something is if you can't count on the lowest common denominator to play it reliably

  9. The fact that they think increasing the damage on sword 2 and 3 will matter at all demonstrates that people who don't even use the class are still at the steering wheel

Gonna be pretty funny if people crunch the numbers and everyone ends up using axe main in melee range now that split blade isn't completely worthless on a power build and sword drops off the serious PvE radar entirely

  10. Unique logins aren't the same as average concurrent players

1-2 million unique log ins a month is likely but the idea that that many people play with any regularity is laughable

That would be ~33,333 to 66,666 people playing one day a month, each day at the absolute minimum

Given the observable player density in game at prime time and the "mega server system", this seems highly unlikely

What's more plausible is most people are logging in for major updates and/or an hour a day for their dailies and nothing else

They aren't playing hours a day, every day

Strictly speaking, it does as it bring boon conversion and projectile hate to the table.

Unfortunately, those aren't popular tools as boon conversion have simply to much competition in PvE and projectile hate is very niche in the gamemode (due to the mechanism being overnerfed in the gamemode so that you can't "cheat" the mechanics with it) and easily accessible to most profession.

I was thinking more along the lines of stuff like One Wolf Pack sharing

Something other classes can't do or can but at too great a sacrifice to their kit

Untamed however has ability to reduce his active cooldowns by a LOT. That will make him the best user of spirits bar none, letting him go absolutely wild with their actives.

We have no idea what the "spirit and banner rework" will entail other than Anet's implication that they intend to phase out unique buffs for baseline boons to level the support playing field

The only one that does that is frost spirit and given what happened to Grace of the Land, I wouldn't hold your breath for spamable quickness/alacrity

Even their attempt to give us boonrip after 8+ years was a dysfunctional flop

Ask for untamed fixes now, not after the spirit rework drops because you'll be waiting another 6+ months

Yup, that was posted in October. I wish Snowcrows or someone would post a new max DPS build so we can really see what is possible (or not) with the current release.

Pretty much anyone who cares enough to do it can simply look at the skills, conclude it's weaker than Soulbeast and just not bother

If it brought a new mechanic or support to the table then it might be worth it but it's just pure damage with spirit/spotter support being universal to the class

The discounted mortar makes some some sense I can get it although is garbage too... I don't like clickfesta and that turtle F1 is exactly that.
But why the phoenix F1? It does not damage, it does nothing.... And in 1/2s CD.

I can see it having some moderate use in WvW allowing us to hit enemies attacking walls without needing to have a direct line of sight but it's not much and sadly probably the only thing this spec contributes to the mode as a whole

I do find it funny that when choosing specs for the hammer 2 out of the 3 stat choices are condi focused.

I can never tell if these things happen because they simply don't care and just plop in whatever or they just send in Intern Amy who started last week and doesn't even know how the game's mechanics work

True but the main problem is the pathing.

That's merely the most evident from simple videos as well as the biggest hurdle in pvp

Their problems go much deeper than pathing

Outside of pvp, they exist simply to buff up the base ranger's horrible dps and provide little to no team support with Jacaranda being about the only one that does any real aoe damage via call lightning

They still don't even benefit from quickness after 8+ years

Just look at how much damage and modulation they had to give the engi golem in order to make it enjoyable to use
