Well, no, my comment was related to the comment someone made about buffing the whole weapon DPS another 80%. The examples you provided aren't weapons, they are skills, so they aren't relevant to the comment I made. So how do your irrelevant examples to my point that Anet has never buffed a weapon to 80% more DPS make me wrong about that?

Are you really going to pretend they meant the actual, equipable weapon and not the weapon's skills?

Is that where we're really at with this?

Which is exactly why I stated a hundred times that we should get a petless spec.

But my solution was to have a Spirit Shaman. You lose your bond with your ephemeral pet to gain an even closer bond with the ethereal Spirits of the Wild.

Each of your F skills would summon a different Spirit of the Wild (Like a spirit weapon, not a target etc) which provided AoE ally support and buffs. The Hammer could be ground targeted ranged AoE with the hammer skills flipping over and being a different flavor depending on what two pet archetypes you choose. Canine being Power Damage, Felines being Condition damage, Bear being defensive buffs for example. Then those skills would have animations to do with those pets. Like, picking a Bird pet makes the skill X summon birds to perform the action, like Hunter's Call or Call Owl (The Norn Racial skill) etc.

So, you get your pet flavor and RPing, but you don't have a stupid AI which dies instantly.

Except we didn't get that nor will the Untamed be re-tuned into that because people wanted their "Bunny Thumper" nostalgia good feels

With those two aspects of reality established, it makes far more sense to ask anet to at least make it worth slotting in serious pve play rather than shout "but that's just soulbeast 2.0" as though we're ever going to get anything remotely different

The best case scenario is Anet making it so we give quickness to allies on disable and even that will probably not get us a team pick over other quickness spam builds unless the spec brings competitive damage along for the ride as well

We might get some heavy re-tuning of abilities but Anet's not going back to the drawing board. Not for us.

If they were, I'd rather they go back and retool Druid now that directly targeting allies with skills is a functional possibility and maybe get Druid a WvW team comp pick as a commander babysitter heal bot

Oh you do? Because Anet has a history of buffing whole weapon DPS by 80%? That's ... interesting, especially considering the DPS performance of comparable weapons already in the game. But yes, definitely don't do anything like use the history of the game to guide your thoughts.

    Path of Scars:
-Damage has been increased by 85% when not traited.

    Whirling Defense:
-The damage per strike has been increased by 100%.
    -Increased damage by 15%.
    -Increased damage by 15%.

I guess I just don't see the point in having two specs that do the same thing. Imagine if Soulbeast came out as a different way of healing. Why bother spending the time creating something the class already has?

Because making the "pet focused elite spec" a WvW Squad pick was an impossible task no matter how much people chanted "Bunny Thumper!" over and over

  5. The only way you're even remotely """forced""" to grind for masteries is if you either:

    A. Sit in town and prefer to flex your latest gem purchase rather than actually play the game
    B. Feel compelled to accrue the XP as fast as humanly possible and seek out the quickest but most monotonously boring XP farm possible

The only time restricting bar filling to a specific area is an issue is when it apparently prevents you from doing B.

You cannot compare WoW or FF14 to GW2 because they are subscription games with a ton more stable revenue that they can devote to having whole groups of people balance classes.

Yes, and those games have a hard trinity system that requires 3 different kinds of balance to work well along with teams of people making content that use said system

Those people exist because they need to exist

Anet had reportedly nearly 300 people on staff at one point and never put more than one to two in charge of balance because it doesn't need more than that

GW2 pve balance is "is it within 5-10% of peak dps and/or does it spam alacrity/quickness on allies?"

That's it. All skills are split now, there's no more juggling 2.5 game modes. Skills can be as good or bad as they want them to be in pve without affecting anything in pvp or wvw.

Look at the hilariously low effort it took to take the wet noodle Ranger and make the meta power house that is (was) Soulbeast

All they had to do was jack up our stats and give us a no cost +40% damage utility along with an elite that was actually worth using

It was so effective that they spent the better part of the last few years handing us nothing but nerfs to it

There's nothing preventing Anet from making Untamed competitive in the DPS ladder other than their total reluctance to put in the effort bolstered by people cheering for mediocrity for no apparent, logical reason

That and giving us a green glow which vastly effects how we dress ourselves. Though this time they went overboard and just decided all Untamed will look the same no matter what we wear. At least you can still see our bodies when merged.

I will give them one point in that it only appears when you have your weapons drawn and disappears again when stowed

No idea if that was intended (like many Untamed features) but it was better than the always on soulbeast smog cloud

Yeah, hoping that Untamed is actually NOTHING like the beta tests are like. Because it is easily, EASILLY the worst E-spec out of all 9, because no one will ever play this spec unless they want to nerf themselves.

Calling it right now and saying that what we saw will largely be what ships with some minor tweaks to numbers and possibly some way to call back the pet when it's unleashed

The F5 cooldown will still remain because Anet has some unhealthy fixation on forcing ranger specs to bounce in and out of "special mode" every 10-15 seconds

I think a lot of people were excited over the "Bunny Thumper" prospect.  Then they realized Untamed is trash, and the honeymoon is already over.

The meme wasn't what made Bunny Thumper popular.  That it was viable (which was a rarity for GW1 Rangers) was what made Bunny Thumper popular.

It was viable for like a month or two and then Anet killed it because it made Warriors obsolete in their specific role with their own weapon

The only reason it lives on in memory is because it has a dumb meme name

I mean, I have somewhere in the neighborhood of 3k hours on ranger, played the Untamed spec for hours, and posted a WvW video in the main feedback thread--so I'm not coming from a point of not enjoying the class or spec.

I actually did enjoy the mechanic of passing unleashed back and forth, but still do not think it is viable for the same reasons core isn't viable outside of some niche PvP uses.

Could they improve the hammer? I think so, but that is the only area I think that can be improved upon unless they massively rewrite the pet AI coding.  Because from my perspective, the pet is what will hold this spec back in WvW and somewhat ironically PvE as the pet has AWFUL DPS potential.

I'm really not understanding the fascination this sub-forum has with alacrity either.  In the other topic I already posted numerous reasons why I was convinced they weren't bringing that to the new spec, and still don't think they will--and even if they did I don't think it fixes anything.

Rangers already have 'better alacrity' in Quickdraw and now the new Untamed trait, so we definitely don't need personal alacrity.  And slapping it on a cantrip won't do a lot for me, because everything else about the spec is so bad no group is bringing this over soulbeast or druid.

It's not about personal alacrity but being able to spread it to your party

Fury and Might are so cheap that support has power creeped to "keep perma alacrity/quickness on allies"

I always find it kind of funny how defensive people get with these threads. It's good value for yourself, you already own the episodes and expansions. Someone wanting to rejoin or play for the first time has a massive barrier to entry.

    >Massive

The amount this game asks you to pay to access it's entirety is nothing compared to most actual, physical hobbies

I'm no fan of Anet's monetization policy (looking at you $20 mount skins and BLC exclusives) but the actual cost of the game itself is incredibly reasonable if you're someone who sits in front of their PC for hours a day

Steam sales and ad funded youtube content has destroyed people's conception of "good value" when it comes to entertainment

Most of the complaints I see are from PvE players being annoyed that the pet doesn't use skills automatically and they have to press them for damage. Kinda ironic considered a lot of people wanted a pet focused spec... isn't this what people should expect from a "pet spec"? Or did people just want higher dps from the pet with the same limited control over its skills?

No I'm sure people meant they wanted to tell their tiger to use "Bite" every six seconds for the next 4+ years so it can do the same damage per second it does autonomously on other specs

Anet should be better to implement what was wished for.

    How?

People wanted "a knockdown spam damage train" which was never going to happen, not after hard CC had all it's damage removed and Anet repeatedly nerfed away any hope of ranger pets having good pvp damage

A weak hammer and a pet that doesn't do much of anything impactful is exactly what they would deliver

I'll be rather surprised if they manage to salvage this without having to change the entire concept from the ground up and make us into Ritualists with boon dispensing spirit pets or w/e

So if you don't use hammer, there is literally never a reason to take it off the pet right? cause all it does is make you weaker.

I believe the buff/debuff is universal

It's only hammer that actually gets new skills on top of +/-15% damage

I don't mind that at all. They just need a 1200 range blink, some damage resistance and 50% more HP across the board. The Unleashed pet skills are pretty ok.

Ya I'm not really sure why people are upset by this

3 skills are much easier to balance than 30 and when combined with all the other kitten this spec asks you to juggle, not having to try and find a pet that has good skills in both modes is something that I can appreciate

Ranged pets could use a different F1 but other than that, the mechanism is fine

"A multitude of choice but almost all of them are the wrong one" is already an issue with Ranger pets. We don't need another layer on top of that

  17. It's boring in pve and feels worse than vanilla, druid, and soulbeast in pvp/wvw

Why would I ever swap out of unleashed mode on the Ranger and eat a -15% damage nerf for 10 seconds at a time on top of base ranger's crap damage?

Perma hulk mode on the ranger means my pet does nothing new and no new skills on the weapons means this brings little to nothing new to the table for pve play.

Shear boredom in overworld pve is pretty much the only reason I can ever see myself slotting this spec over any other option right now in it's current form

Oh, and also, get rid of the toxic sludge aura on the ranger. It's kittening terrible visually and there's no reason enemy players need this much of a tell, especially when being in said mode means I also now take 10% more damage

The pet doesn't get slimed and neither should we

This is how I see Untamed being used at wvw…

unleashing ranger, priming exploding spores, teleporting into a group with unnatural traversal, spores exploding knocking down enemies, hammer 3 for aoe blind hitting targets triggering the boon removal leap, u can then trap enemies with natures binding and swap to unleashed pet, f1, f2, f3 while swapping weapons to either gs for maul/gs5/maul, axe5 for whirling death, or wh5 for more aoe daze.

The spores are functionally just a worse spike trap in pvp

You're trading 1 second more of cc (spike trap launch feels like more than 1 second but w/e) in exchange for instant activation, unblockable, and 5 seconds less cooldown

It's just not worth it unless Anet finally makes good on their promise to give some hard cc the damage back and makes spores one of the few hard cc skills that also does damage (and a lot of it at that)

I don't get why we would get reduced damage with Vow of the Untamed, just so unnecessary. It's too high penalty for the player and too low buff for the pet.

This is still baffling to me and I really hope they remove the penalty or give the pet a massive damage % buff when in hulk mode in PvE or there will little to no reason to ever move the "unleashed" buff to the pet and it will just be another "perma-beast mode" situation all over again

You're already essentially going to need to be in unleashed mode as much as possible to meet the same damage as soul beast

It won't even be worth popping your pet into unleashed just for the skills and then back out as the mode has a 10s cooldown

10s where you deal 15% less damage for a moderate dps burst on your pet. Something not even remotely worth it when performance matters just as is the case when running a power soulbeast
