If you tie legendary armour acquisition to the CM of strikes then you don't alleviate the low-effort forum warrior's concerns at all.

All you have done is changed the name of the content that these people will not do and changed an adjective for their tired arguments.

  2. Nah they shouldn’t try to make the old raid content relevant to most players.

Instead, they should try to bring something new and fresh to the game by bringing a new legendary armor earnable through EoD strike missions and their CMs. Here is how to do it imo:

    1. your earn a new armor of exotics by playing the normal mode just like the strike missions from the icebrood saga (with a less convoluted system hopefully)

    2. you upgrade these armor pieces to ascended and unlock its new upgraded skins trough general open world content and repeatable normal mode achievements.

    3. Fast forward three months after the release of EoD, the CMs drop and you upgrade your ascended into legendary status through its achievements and other expensive materials. You won’t be able to have some animated armor skins in which case you would at least have some incentive to go play the raids of HoT.

Anything but Scarlet. That was the worst part of this game.

Well Scarlet will need to come back if they ever want to bring back season 1 and make it available to everyone to replay it. However the good news is that they don’t need to copy pasta everything that happened: they can just reimplement the good parts, ignore the weakest story bits and rewrite the overall story as long as the “crew” is properly introduced.

  4. After end of dragons, here is what is going to happen:

stuff happens within the mist, the story gets reset back to season 1 and now the devs will have the opportunity to justify the costs of bringing back the content of season 1.  That way, they can feature an alternate ending in which Scarlet failed to hit that ley-line and then provide another story.

  5. Honestly it would be way better to enhance dueling in WvW. That way, you could just invite anyone you want, regardless of the relink system or rather the future alliance system.

Just make it so that to allow invites you both need to be on each other’s friends lists and basically allow players to duel in any territory that the team owns. That way you create a game within the game where you have some incentive to defend the different territories or at the very least could duel in the home safe zone.

  6. Personally, I think it is time to meet players expectation halfway through when it comes to legendary armor and the ability to stat-swap.

With the release of the legendary armory, I feel like the main purpose of getting legendary armor has changed. It is no longer about stat-swapping but rather the ability to share the armor with all your characters and the ability to never have to worry about charges of transmutation. Therefore I think that stat-swapping should be introduced to ascended and exotics with some caveat on how to obtain this advantage.

Here is my idea: they should introduce a new tier of armor that I would call empowered armor. To obtain this empowered armor you would firstly need to use the mystic forge for each piece of armor with a recipee that comprises an item that you craft through 500 whatever the type or armor you own, 50 globes of ectoplasm and 250 luck. For the sake of how valuable it is obtain a lot of ascended to deck out many characters and for the prestige of legendary armor in comparison to ascended,  ascended should become character bound when it becomes empowered.

Once you own this armor, it means that you are going to be able to add and store any type of stats you wish. To obtain a stat, you would need to speak to a vendor unlocked through the guild hall. Each stat you want (x6) would be available by participating in open world content and guild missions. For the sake of longevity of the game and knowing that the armor is comprised of six pieces, they should lock the acquisition of these stats through season 3 and 4.
The idea here is to lock each piece of armor behind a pair of living story release: for example if you want to add a stat to your head piece, it would require a player to farm 50 blood crystal and 50 kralkatite and powedered rose and 15 guild commendations (I am obviously throwing random numbers here). For the shoulders, same principle: 50 dilfluorite, 50 petrified woods and 15 commendations until you have unlocked a particular stat for each piece of armor.

Notice that I am no way advocating for legendary gear in open world and the big advantage to never needing to unlock any new type of stats for example. If a player wants purple gear or want this animated armor, then they should raid, participate in SPVP or WvW or look forward to the upcoming strike missions and their CMs to get some experience.

That said, I think it is important to make build craft more accessible for a larger audience so that they become a bit more familiar with the different stats and why some one would choose one stat over another. Other than that I think it is important to add more medium tier goals because I find it pretty underwhelming to go through all the hoops of raiding when in all reality you are likely going to switch between only 2 stats at best and all in all I think it is important to see guilds and their content as a valuable goal so that new players get enticed to join guilds when they see people in core Tyrian, doing the races for example.

  7. Just do more strike missions. Looks like the raid format is just unsustainable for Anet. It takes way too much time for them be released, let alone finding time to create four level of difficulty for all the previously released raids.

Furthermore strike missions do have the amazing advantage of being easily linked to the story. It will be a lot more worthwhile to release different strike missions of various difficulty ranging from medium (like the 2 kodans) to hard (like the boneskinner and the whisper of jormag) in EoD on a consistent schedule.

You know it's not a legendary mount when you have to say it "pretty much" is.

It is legendary though. Have you ever tried getting Vision without the skyscale ?

as for the process of getting it, yes it is inferior to getting the griffon and the first three step of the collection that makes you run around the same map looking for scales and eggs is very unfun because it lacks variety.

However, apart from that, everything about it is casual, more so than the griffon I would say. Personally it took me around of three months of casual play to get. Nothing hardcore and it certainly doesn’t need a nerf.

You're right, because they removed a core mechanic instead of just fixing it.

Pointing out, it's still one dodge, the only class that gets to lose a core mechanic.

Decouple ambushes from dodge, give back second one. Done.

Hint ANet - The F1 shatter could be changed to the AMBUSH trigger. Crazy idea, right?

How is that gonna change anything ?
First of all you realize that shattering is not the same mechanic as using an ambush. What happens to power chrono builds and core mesmer build ? Now you’ve got a f1 core mechanic that only a mirage can use ? That is just ridiculous.

Even worse, now you shoehorn every mirage build into using shatter storm because we all know that to get the maximum output damage, you will be forced to spam that f1, without any risk or counters.

Please no Braham in EoD 😰

I really don't think he has any reason to go to Cantha tbh, and will likely just stay in the Shiverpeaks to recover from Primordus. I think we'll just hear about him getting his bow back in some extra dialogue, collection, event, or something, as the story around it is pretty much over.

I disagree. If a half cut IBS can deal about some lore related to the Spirits of the Wild, surely Cantha can talk about the Fire Spirit and even maybe its remaining related spirits.

Cantha could even talk some lore about related to the Jotuns since the bow was infused with a scroll belonging to some Jotun tribe. And Cantha, Shing Jea in particular, did have a frozen area (that could have expanded btw) inhabited with Jotuns.
Braham might not go to Cantha but it doesn’t exclude the possibility of having the bow more important than we think.

Maybe some canthian traveler is looking for that artifact ? Maybe the Tengus need it ? Maybe the empire from Cantha wants it ?

Speaking of infused weapons in general....If J.K Rowling can tell a story of how the sword of Gryffindor was infused with Basilic blood in order for that same sword to kill the minion of Voldemort several books later, surely Anet can do something about it than just being a bow that has no relevance to Primordius in general and doesn’t even get used to kill Jormag.

But obviously it is pure speculation at this point. Just saying, they could build amazing stories with that bow because the lore surrounding it is there.

  11. Well they could still use the bow as a plot device for Cantha. It still has a huge value as a magical artifact, and it is not because SPOILER AHEAD Jormag is dead that suddenly the bow has become totally worthless, since the bow has never been truly connected to Primordius.

I mean the bow was infused with a scroll from Jotun magic and there is a theory that the magic used is tied to the Fire Spirit. According to the wiki, this spirit has left Tyria. Why not have it be a main storytelling point of Cantha ?

new players or those who dont play much being able to get them for some gold its a benefit for them.

Maybe, yes. However I just don’t see that happening, unless they have some major feature update in the next expansion that requires it. So far, ascended has always been untradable and it really didn’t have any negative impact. So why now ? Need something more compelling than just saying  “it will help newer players and the ones who don’t play enough”.

amazing thoughtful answers, why do i even try on these forums.

It is just an opinion. Personally I just wanted to suggest the possibility of gaining something fractal related out of selling extra unused pieces, that isn’t just raw gold.

You want to sell it to other players. Ok, sure. How are you even going to do that if ascended is account-bound ? What would be the benefit for Anet to turn ascended items into character-bound items in order to sell it ?

    ... here we go again
OP said he'd like to have all those skins (or simply more of them), attainable through specific in-game activities, to show that you've overcome a specific challenge, instead of simply having a gold/gem cost. Especially the skins for mounts, because they are pretty much only available through the GS.
His conclusion was that this could be achieved by the game having a subscription fee, and please continue reading, because a different form of income could mean that they don't need to sell the skins on the GS to make money. If they don't need to sell them on the GS to make money, they can be integrated into the game as rewards for specific achievements.
Now, I think we've established that almost everyone here hates that proposed solution and there's absolutely no point in beating that dead horse any further. I'ts goo.
What still isn't solved is the issue OP wanted to point out. (the reward system feeling lackluster as explained in the beginning)
I agree with this sentiment, but don't think the solution he proposed is feasible nor wanted.
So I am sure the only things left worth discussing here now is whether or not you agree with his sentiment about the reward system and if there might be different ideas for a solution to the problem and discuss those.

You mean like the fractal infusions ? The fractal weapon skins that got released with the latest update ? The cape that got added with the latest living world update that you start unlocking after getting the first eye infusion ? The armor and the cape that got released with the strike missions ? The many weapon skins upgrades that got released with the IBS ? The rewards tied to raids ?

I am starting to wonder...Do any of the people that complain about the gemstore ever got any of the rewards that I listed ?

    • Thanks 4
  15. Never gonna happen.

I mean they got rid of the dungeon team like 8 years ago. Even when dungeons were profitable, the content was already abandoned with no new content and no new reward, except for that one update some time ago when they added the possibility to earn an ascended trinket out of it.

Fractals is the superior content in every way just for the fact it provides difficulty scaling. If you are looking  for that very easy dungeon experience, fractal tier 1 is here for you. Other than nothing is stopping people from to just play with some friends without needing to use the lfg. You get your group, do the 8 easiest paths of all the dungeons and you will still get some gold out of it.

  16. @"skus.4527" said:What if GW2 implemented something like FFXIV's Trust system, where a group of NPCs could join a player in the raid?

GW2 already has plenty of LS episodes where NPCs join the PC. Having an NPC pact squad (or maybe even the named NPCs) join the player seems like a natural expansion. It would allow a player to experience the raid content (even at the current difficulty) without being concerned about impacting other player's enjoyment if they mess up and wipe the raid while they're learning, it would eliminate group requirements set to fence out "bad' or new players, it'd allow the player to experience the story, and if it's at the same difficulty there's no reason to fence off any particular rewards. There could be an 'easy' mode, either just outright, or as a training mode and then the NPCs could be brought into the normal mode. Such a system could also be integrated if ANet was interested in adding new dungeons, though it seems like they've mostly focused on fractals, DRMs, and strikes instead. If the NPCs can be leveled/customized it could provide a reason to replay the content to get additional levels for the companions.

My main concern is that some players would likely still be bashing their heads against the wall and might not be able to progress. That's not a fun experience, even if it's not an even less fun experience for drawing toxicity from other players for failure. I think an easy mode is a good solution to that, but there are other options.

Nah I would say it is bad idea because it doesn’t promote group play, especially 10 man group play. Allowing the player to solo it with a bunch of NPCs really only works if the players are required to play it as part of the main storyline. What you are describing here is basically Guild wars hero system.

If you want more players indulging in raids, then there just needs to be 10 man content in the game. And you certainly won’t have it if they resume the 8 to 9 months development cycle of delivering raid wings consisting of extra non important story that players can skip.As it stands, the best solution would be to keep on releasing strikes and make it relevant to the general achievement reward scheme of regular story. Right now, we only have 6 of them, 2 of them being top tier ( WoJ and the Kodans), 1 being overly easy (shiverpeaks) and the rest being kinda lackluster in their own separate ways imo. If they do more in the future around the difficulty of kodan-WoJ, I think they could pull it off and offer some good rewards in combination to the general achievement tab of a specific map.

In the future, I kinda wish they could offer some mount skins for playing the map and the strike missions extensively.
