  1. Huh, I was not aware of that "trick," thanks. I had assumed that if you can't equip it in the 'normal' world, you would automatically unequip it once you exited the Lobby. As to whether or not it was intended, someone (in the now-merged thread) above said that it was supposed to be limited to level 80 only, due to the Requirement listed here ( https://help.guildwars2.com/hc/en-us/articles/19615678458131-Secrets-of-the-Obscure-Weaponmaster-Training ). But the way I read that was that you needed to be level 80 to UNLOCK the new weapons for your account (i.e., that's only available as part of a level 80 zone) and not necessarily that the ability to USE the weapons was restricted to level 80 only. I suppose we'll have to wait and see. Whether or not being able to use it below 80 is or is not a bug, however, I still feel it should be allowed, as IMHO, it adds something to the game without taking anything away from it.
  2. Yeah, having the ability of lower-level alts to use the new weapons was one of the biggest additions to the game for me that I had been waiting years for, and its loss has sadly diminished my interest in the game again. Leveling alts organically was one of the few gameplay options I enjoyed passing the time with while waiting months for the next story/content release. Killing Sorrow for the umpteenth time got very old very quickly, and having new options available for the lower-level alts was a great addition to the game to keep interest during the slow periods. And did it really disturb any game balance for having the ability to level an alt from 2-80 with the new weapons? I can't see it as such. And I was really looking forward to leveling a new Guardian alt with a pistol when the next new weapons were added, but that looks like that won't happen now either.
  3. Yes, me (among several others). I have 20 characters at this point and except for three of them, they've all been leveled organically from lvl1. Playing through the game leveling experience with different weapon combos or builds can be fun all by itself. I've been playing for a decade now, and things can get pretty stale with just a main lvl 80 or two, but even as recently as this year, I've still found the occasional bit of something interesting I missed on previous toons when I level them through the world organically. 4. So, I logged into one of my characters this morning, and it appears that there is a full set of PvP gear and weaponry in my inventory, and I'm not sure where it came from or why it's there. They include items such as "Cloth Aquabreather (PvP)" and "Soldier's Amulet (PvP)" and "Staff of Ice (PvP)" -- which all appear to be deprecated gear no longer used in the game if I'm reading the wiki correctly. I haven't played any PvP with that character in a while, and I'm just curious as to why that's all in my inventory now. None of it is salvageable, and I'm leery to just destroy them without knowing what's going on. Any ideas? Thanks!

  6. Am I correct that there really isn't any reason to "represent" you guild anymore? Way back when, I know that if you were representing your Guild, then your day-to-day events around Tyria (world bosses, dynamic events, etc.) counted towards giving that Guild Influence (albeit slowly). From my understanding, however, Influence was later just removed entirely, and you now only generate 'Favor' for a Guild by doing specific Guild Events when they are being run? That's saddening to me, as I am not particularly a 'social' type of gamer (I'm not a particularly good player, and my competency in then typical 'guild events' would be middling at best, even if I were online during those times). But I loved the idea that even if I wasn't a very good player—or didn't adhere to the 'you have to be participating in X guild events a week or you are useless' mentality that plagued so many other MMOs—I could at least be helping out my Guild by just doing the sorts of event I could do. Am I missing something else here—a new mechanic, or setting, or something?—or is the only way to help out your guild just by doing those specific, mandated Guild Events anymore these days? If so, that change obviously was years ago and is not something we'll be seeing coming back, but it's still sad they introduced that approach when the lack of it was one of the defining, selling points of the game in the first place.
  7. So, my PayPal account is already linked to a bank account, and I used to be able to do this before when the option was available, but it sounds like, according to the various responses here, the problem with the new setup Arenanet is using is that it's an issue with a service that can allow repeated subscription purchases (despite the fact that what I'd be using it for is by definition a one-time-purchase). Which is a kitten shame, as I used to regularly (and almost exclusively) buy Gems with those bonus points, so I suppose I will no longer be making Gem purchases from Arenanet anymore. Regardless, thanks for the assistance, guys.
  8. So, back before they revamped the way the purchases were done in-game, if you wanted to use your PayPal account to purchase gems, it would actually take you out of the game client and to the web browser, where you'd then login to your PayPal account to complete the transaction. When making a purchase via PayPal from their website, if you had them, you could choose to use any accrued PayPal Points (kind of like a credit card's "cash back" feature) you had on you account to make the purchase with instead of whatever linked bank account/etc. PayPal was normally associated with. However, with the new integrated system, it doesn't seem to have that option anymore. Which is a kitten (EDIT: wow, really guys? The stronger form of 'dang' is censored?) shame, because I used to buy things with my PayPal account as normal, accrue the points there, and then regularly use those points to buy Gems when I got enough. But now that doesn't seem to be an option, and so I won't be buying Gems anymore. Am I missing something, or is there a way to have that option still available from the new setup? or is it there, and I'm somehow just missing it? Thanks in advance!
  9. Yeah, but why in just the EoD map? You are presumably expected to fish anywhere there's deep enough water, so why not have lures and bait available at all the various normal merchants elsewhere in the game as well? If Random Joe Skritt sitting on a trash pile in central Tyria can happily sell me picks, sickles and axes, they sure as heck can sell me other gathering tools such as wooden lures and crappy minnows as well.
  10. I'm curious as to how you can "predict" what is essentially -- as best I can tell -- a RNG on when the marker changes directions? If there was a way to determine when it was about to change direction or speed (such as a color change, a subtle wiggle, or some other indicator) then yeah, that would be one thing. But right now, the only 'trick' to that so far I've been able to determine is to keep the moving marker towards the forwards end of your bracket so you have a little more time to react to a direction change when it occurs. Which of course doesn't help all that much if your fish gets one of those bursts of speed that is simply faster than the set speed your bracket can move. If you have any other tips and tricks, I'd love to hear them.
  11. As many others have mentioned, the fishing minigame isn't complex necessarily, but it is not what I would call "relaxing." For me, that was the whole point of fishing in MMOs. It was a relaxing, quiet, sedate activity to engage in while waiting for other stuff to happen, something to do while listening to music or talking with friends, etc. The need to keep attentive and active during the entirety of the catch -- and the frustration of the marker at times simply being faster than your bar will move, meaning you cannot help but lose progress -- means that this is something that, while I was quite looking forward to, ultimately doesn't look like something I'll be able to really enjoy all that much. Maybe someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but currently, it appear that you only gain progress towards the catch if the fish marker is 100% fully within your bracketing box. If the marker is not completely within it, then you lose progress at the same predefined speed, whether it's outside the bracket by only one pixel, or the entire marker is outside it. This means if the fish is fast enough, it can be almost impossible to keep it within the bracket (aside from luck) because it moves faster than your bracket is capable of moving. This does not make for an enjoyable minigame, IMHO. Ideally, I would have loved to see the minigame be more interactive and based on casual skill than on raw timing. Heck, even if the minigame were adjusted so that you lose progress based on the amount you are off by, instead of a set amount, that would be better. If the marker is outside the bracket by only a pixel or two, you lose just a little progress; if it's outside completely, you lose a LOT, and graduate the losses between the two. Not to mention the fact that apparently, you can't yet assign keyboard shortcuts to either the fishing or skiff actions? That really is seems to be a no-brainer. Anyway, it's a neat idea, but ultimately not something I am likely to bother with, sadly. Which is a real shame, as I had been looking forward to a nice relaxing option with which to still be constructive within the game.
  12. Yeah, I've been having some issue here as well. I already got the Thaw Elixir once as part of the storyline last week, and I went back to brew another one for some of the other achievements, but I've been killing various things for a solid hour now, and not a single one has dropped any Frostbitten Suet yet. EDIT: Never mind, I restarted and started getting them again, it looks like.
  13. All of the metas/raids/Big Events require a certain population density in order to be realistically viable. Only a few are reliable for the casual player (i.e., "person with a job and family and real-life responsibilities") because the coinciding windows of 'being able to get online' and 'enough people around to run it' are smaller. Taking it out and reworking it will help make it more viable for everyone, and not just those with Huge Guilds or Huge Time Allotments. Heck, it wouldn't be that hard to tweak it as a solo/storyline chapter either, honestly, if they ever decide to rework and bring back Scarlet's War as actual repeatable storyline campaign -- which would be great for those of us that missed the live run of it the first time around.
  14. No, there's definitely been some issues; a number of people in-game have been complaining. I've done two different ones and didn't get credit for either. Plus, the previous time I tried, a lot of people in my lane also didn't get credit. My gut feeling is maybe it has something to do with whether or not you'd already done the generic achievement for it previously?
  15. Honestly, I still have no idea what I'm doing in this chapter. As best I can tell, it's just doing the daily. I _think _buying the new crystals are advancing the counter, but I can't tell (and even then, it seems like half the time the counter in the top-right mission list isn't even displaying for me). And when I ask Lokka how I can assist, it just opens the daily missions tab with no further explanation. Seriously, is that all? I mean, there's a "Rallying the Crystal Bloom" achievement, and when I left-click on it to find out what I need to do in order to progress that, it's literally blank. I mean, I'm at 2/5 for it, so I guess I did something, but I have no idea how or why. I haven't fully finished the "Marshalling the Crystal Bloom" daily achievement yet, so I don't think that would be it. Little to no explanation; not even a highlight on the Eye of the North map to let you know who your unnamed 'ally' you needed to meet up there was. In time, I eventually figured it was Lokka because more PCs seemed to be around her than anyone else, but I still have no idea if I'm missing other stuff. I'm not impressed.
