  1. This is really helpful, thanks!
  2. I'm a not so new player, but new to WvW. I tried yesterday for an hour and simply could not keep up with all the mounts to cap a thing. 1 hour = zero pips. Are there any guilds or groups that are doing WvW for those of us who don't have a warclaw yet? I know I can Git gud and all that, but it is none the less disheartening to always be late to the party. I'm sure others in this situation feel the same way.
  3. Hey thanks, a lot.with #1 - it's because PvP sees me as a core ele, who can't use the sword, right? I have to change to weaver. I think I got that one.Can you explain why gear quality is irrelevant, Or point me to a relevant wiki?
  4. Things not mentioned (or at least I didn't see them): Pursue achievements/mastery pointsPursue hero points to complete elite specializationsDo silverwaste runs to reap gold/materialsGet on a world boss train (use LFG - Looking for group) - great early source of rare gear that can be salvaged into ecto and crystalline dust. You don't need to be lvl 80.Chase ascended gear - the best gear in the game. As good as legendary, but far cheaper, and less attractive, I guess.Pursue the ascended backpack Mawdry: https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Mawdrey - this also gives you mawdry II, a gizmo that eats excess bloodstone ore and poops out loot globs for you on a daily basis. Best source of Bloodstone is Living World Season 3 maps, esp Bloodstone Fen.Pursue Princess (https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Princess): Princess is another gizmo that eats dragonite ore and poops lots of loot on a daily basis. The silverwastes easily deliver massive amounts of dragonite to feed her. HoT maps deliver dragonite ore too.Along with fractals, LWS3 maps are a great source for ascended trinkets. You'll need to do events and scavenge to collect the map currency along with unbound magic to buy the trinkets from the specialized vendors found on each map.Fractals are an excellent source of cheap inventory bags, 20 silver plus some fractal map currency. Plus you make lots of gold from fractals, they give valuable trophies. On my best day, I made between 8-10 gold an hour in Tier 1 fractals, probably average around 6-7. RNG has a lot to do with how much you make. req : HoTDo the gerent and octovine meta events back to back in Tangled Depths and Auric Basin for lots of (almost) easy loot
  5. I visited the mists for the first time, spent time reading up on the whole PvP thing, but I still have a few questions... As a weaver... 1) Why can't I use my ascended zojja's sword, while I can use my ascended Yassith's dagger?2) Despite saying that elite specializations would only be available to people who purchased HoT and PoF, my elite (weaver) specialization(s) aren't listed in the build panel, only the core ele are there. Is that what they mean by elite, just the generic and no actual elite specializations?3) From the select a build option on the biuld panel, I chose a few different builds and the game populated my gear with new items (generic weapons, some sigils and runes, etc). I wasn't paying attention to my gold balance. Did I just buy all of these items by accident? Am I out gold?4) Why would the PvP build panel pick generic weapons for me over my ascended ones? The ones it chose do about 840 points less damage than what I already have. Thanks folks!
  6. I know this is late to the party, but I wanted to add just a bit. IMO - Playing an elementalist is more about tactics than build. Don't let anyone tell you an ele isn't viable, regardless of build. It is tough, there is a larger learning curve than most other professions, but once mastered, makes you a better player than just about anyone else out there. I started out as a staff ele then moved to S/d weaver at lvl 80. Like you, I struggled at first and thought of giving up the class. But, in the end, I'm glad I didn't because I find playing the weaver is the most fun profession (for me anyway). Other, more popular professions, get boring to me because their mechanics become ultra repetitive. With a weaver (ele), there are so many more options, that it's rare that I get into a specific skill rotation. Repeating the same skills over and over is what I call boring play. I like that I have to think about which skill would be best in a particular situation versus just hammering out my tried and true burst rotation for the thousandth time. That said, of course there are tried and true combos with ele too. It's just that there are far more combos to choose from and some work better than others in specific situations, and one must learn when and where to use them. For example, with a staff elementalist (the max DPS in the game), you can learn how to start one spell then teleport to (or away from) your enemy, and release that spell without just standing there waiting for the animation to finish. Standing still is your enemy. This works great for fire 5 (Meteor Shower) which has almost a 4 second casting animation. Cast meteor shower then quickly cast lightning flash in the opposite direction of your enemy. Then wait while the meteor shower animation finishes from a safe distance. Lightning flash has a zero casting time and won't interrupt your previously cast spell. With your (water) trident, you can even use earth 5 (Murky Water) to gain invisibility on land. The mechanic is tough to learn, but you cast murky water from the water onto the shore, perform a combo finisher inside the smoke screen you setup with murky water, and voila, your ele has a few seconds of invisibility. At lower levels, I found using the glyph(s) of elementals priceless. I carried both the lesser and regular versions up until I switched to weaver. Having a friend, a target for enemies to attack, was critical. As long as they aren't attacking you, you are golden. The reason I used both was so that I always had one ready to cast in case I lost the other too soon. Combined with dodging, Fire 4 (Burning retreat) and teleport (lightning flash), I could stay out of toe to toe combat most of the time. Did I ever get downed? Sure. But it wasn't all the time or right away. Once you get to weaver, if you so choose, there are two great builds. One focuses on fire and air and delivers massive damage, the other focuses on water and arcana and has virtually unlimited healing. As a water weaver, I have been the solo player left alive in numerous boss situations, simply because the water weaver's sustain is insane. Sure she does less damage, but how much damage is down by downed or defeated players? Another great bonus to the ele are sigils that work with weapon swapping. Changing attunements is considered a weapon swap. Since ele are switching attunements all the time, it turns out that weapon swapping sigils work for ele better than any other class. Elementalists can swap attunements eveyy 8 seconds. Weavers can swap every 4 seconds and using the weaver's elite specialization, weave self, allows the weaver to swap attunements every 2 seconds. You do the math, weapon swapping sigils can be a must have for the ele/weaver. In the end, make the build you like the most regardless of what "the community" says. While a particular build may help, It's my opinion that your tactics will keep you viable far more than any build. Edited: One more useful point for ele: Since an ele can deliver among the greatest dps in the game, she often becomes the main target of the boss / enemy, which is not helpful for the squishy class. Sometimes, it is better, not to attack for a while. Maybe rez a helpless downed warrior instead. ;)
  7. I'll grant it may be a bit cynical, but it's also not incorrect. There are other examples I will gladly share if you are interested. That said, I'm not criticizing Anet for the practice. They are spot on incentivizing the monetization of their game. It is a business after all. If you or anyone wants and likes to boost, boost away! I used one of mine as well, just not for a playable character. Frankly, I just 'boosted' a new Revenant from level 45 to 80 just by crafting. She's level 80 but is working on the level 50 personal story.
  8. Just to add to what mercury said, and I agree completely... The boost doesn't get you all the hero points or mastery points you'll need anyway. Since you're going to have to go and get those regardless, might as well learn your proferssion's skill set along the way. It's my opinion that the level 80 boost is a stick designed to look like a carrot. It's intention is to get people to skip past the 'free' part of the game and get into a position where they will want/need to buy more stuff with real money sooner rather than later. You can't knock a company for trying to make an extra buck, but that doesn't mean the buying public has to use it. Eventually I did use my boost to make an inventory mule.
  9. "So I did that. However, in doing so, I got to play through like 30 minutes of stuff with characters I had no idea about referencing things that were basically spoilers unbeknownst to me at the time. I also can't guarantee that's what fixed it, because right around the same time I did that, I'd gotten enough central Tyria mastery points to finish the Pact Commander line and begin training something else. I haven't seen the popup since however, despite running around Central Tyria with my Legendary Crafting line ready to be mastered (despite not having points for doing so, which is what caused the popups in the first place.) So perhaps their suggestion fixed it, or perhaps finishing the Pact Commander line fixed it, or perhaps it somehow fixed itself. Or perhaps it'll come back some day and I'll kick a chair through the wall. Who knows. I hope their suggestion, paired with what I did, helps someone out though. Good luck, guys." I have 4 unused PoF mastery points, didn't buy HoT, and the pop up keep returning every few seconds for me. It doesn't happen for my friend, and he does have HoT. So maybe the person who responded to you (Windfreeze), isn't aware that having PoF Mastery points has little to do with making the pop up stop. Maybe I have to buy HoT and get a mastery point there. It wouldn't shock me that the solution was to throw money at the game and forcing people to buy both expansions. That would explain why they are so reluctant to fix an annoyance that is easily addressed.
  10. This popup is driving me absolutely nuts too. Did you ever get in contact with customer support, and if so, what did they say? Yeah, I did. The response was something like "sorry we aren't doing a thing about it, but know it's driving me nuts too."
  11. spamming seems to have worked, had to hit F maybe 6 or 7 times! Thanks for all the help!
  12. New question, what exactly is spamming to commune? Just keep trying over and over? Or does there need to be a few payers hitting their F keys at the same time?
  13. How does one complete this hero challenge? Maybe I'm dumb, but I've scoured the wikis and forums and internet in general for literally days and can't find a clue as to how to get the poison bubble that surrounds the underwater commune point to subside. Even after I kill everything, I can't commune because I'm getting interrupted by the area's auto-poison semi-sphere / bubble. It's the only thing I have left on the map, and I can't do it no matter what I try. It also amazes me that this hasn't been raised by any other player over the years Guild Wars has been active. The fact that it looks like I'm the only one who ever inquired reinforces to me that I must be dumb. I read that the statue of meladru in Graven Cay requires the Pact to control the Cathedral of Verdance as well as the Cathedral of Silence to make its poison sphere subside, but that's on a different map and doesn't help with the one I am stuck on.
  14. OP = October 7, 2017Today = November 15, 2018That's over a year with no resolution.I bought the expansion 12 days ago, just got to level 80 today. Then I ran into this unaddressed bug and find it game-breaking. I am getting a refund.
