Hello guys,

I'm trying the revenant class and i'm playing with two friends, one ranger and one elementalist. We are currently exploring the map and doing quests to level up and were wondering what kind of specialisation would be the best for a "trio" pve oriented end game.

Thank you for your time!

Welcome to the game, nice to have you!

Two quick preambles:

  1. Keep in mind that you can unlock all the elite specs on a single character, so you don't have to feel stuck in one, or make a decision ahead of time and stick to it. You can try one, and if it doesn't work, go get more hero points and switch to the other.
  2. There is an expectation once the new expansion comes out next month that there will be a rebalance to all existing elite specs. That may change what is considered "meta" or best for the more difficult endgame content.

For open world content, you don't have to worry much about group comp - as long as you all know how to play your classes reasonably well, you should be fine.

If you are looking to get into higher tier fractals and eventually raids, you may need to do a bit more digging, and I would suggest looking on:

  1. Metabattle - builds ranked as "meta", "great" and "good" for each game mode.
  2. Snowcrows - more raid focused.
  3. GuildJen - also various builds, plus videos on how to use them (though not as PvE focused).
  4. Hardstuck - also various builds.

With the current meta, you would probably look at Druid + Renegade + Tempest of some sort for the really hard end game content if you want to get closer to optimal, but again that also changes a lot based on the exact boss. You also need to keep in mind that the really hard raids and fractals you would want to do with full groups of 10 and 5 respectively, and the comp will change based on what you have with you.

I'm not sure where you are in the leveling process, but my advice for now (assuming you are sub-80) is to enjoy the classes you are playing, start working on elite specs that interest you after that, and don't worry too much about being optimal until you have done a few fractals and expansion meta events and want more of a challenge.

Again, welcome to the game, and feel free to reach out to me in game, or ask in map chat if you have questions in game. You will usually find there are people tripping over themselves to help.

Renegade is the strongest pick for revenant.  It's very versatile with strong damage, support, sustain, some charm and even the better part of a kitchen sink.  Herald is a good spec, too.  It just doesn't really compare to renegade right now in most cases.

Ranger's options don't overlap so much.  Druid is a healer/support type.  Soulbeast is a damage dealer.  Which is better depends on the game mode.  For instance, druid is not a strong pick for fractals, but is frequently used in raids.

Elementalist can choose between tempest and weaver.  Tempest can be played as a healer or as a damage dealer.  Weaver is only a damage dealer.  Tempest is probably the better option here due to versatility and relative ease of play.

For Revenant, run the alacrity renegade raid build - metabattle lists it as the Boon Support Power DPS raid build.  DON'T bother with the Runes of the Scholar for open world PvE.  If you play around with the GW2 Skill Editor with that build, you can run marauder's armor with diviner's weapons and trinkets with ruins of the pack.  That will let you still hit 100% up-time on your alacrity with orders from above while still getting critical hits most of the time.  I basically run that in training raids and can reliably get 10-12k DPS while providing full alac up-time for the raid.

Yea a cheaper option for scholar that isnt depenent upon your health % uptime is Eagle, but many others work and sub-80 I would just use what ever you have or what ever is especially cheap because it will get replaced in no time.
