Will EoD Bring Some Extra Love To Engineer?

For a game that makes a good chunk of its money from aesthetic gem items, knowing players appreciate cosmetic cohesion,  they sure gave Engi the middle finger…

If they suddenly started to give skins to Engineer's kits and the Mech, they'd be fair and give every other ability with one generic skin more options.

This includes Necromancer's Minions, Necromancer's Shrouds, all the transformation abilities, Elementalist's conjured weapons, Guardian's Spirit Weapons, all of Ranger's pets, Thief's Thieves Guild, Mesmer's Phantasms, Jokesworn's Gun-not-a-sabre, Revenant's swirling hammers.

I likely missed some. But the point is, this is likely far too much work Arenanet is willing to put in, when they could just cheaply produce outfits that sell decent enough.

And the middle finger you thought they gave Engineer, literally every profession would have received it.

Sorry but none of those examples are a primary weapon that simultaneously replaces your combat skills, unlike the case with Engi.

The big difference is that kits are meant to substitute in-combat weapon swapping. The majority of your examples are temporary effects which do not replace your held weapon, or if they do, it doesn’t replace skills nor attempts to substitute weapon swapping.

Notice how I didn’t mention turrets, which would be akin to your other examples.

If it’s a primary weapon or weapon that completely replaces what’s held in-hand, customization options should be available. Especially in this case where it’s a substitute for weapon swapping.

It's not about the functionality, it's about having the option to customize.

If one thing with one skin suddenly gets to have multiple skins, literally everything else with only one skin needs to get multiple skins as well.

Adding further to my previous message, and also to argue why your line of thinking is (no offense) flawed:

The closest example you provided was elemental weapons, however those don’t count either, because they’re conjured from raw elements. It makes sense that fire looks like fire, and ice looks like ice.

It’s implied that engineers design their own weapons. Much like a car, they come in all shapes, sizes, colors, styles…etc. But under the hood, they all serve the same basic function. With the case of Engi’s kits, why are they all made from dark brown wood and dingy iron?

The fundamental difference is that kits are like cars, they can be made from all sorts of materials which would inherently cause differences in shape and color. As an engineer, creating devices is as much about art as it is function/purpose.

The “middle finger” comes from our inability to choose even basic skins for devices that our character presumably crafted themselves. Honestly even “race themed” skins would be enough. Lots of steel for Humans, glowy blue stuff for Asura, wood with engravings for Norn, Iron and rugged for Charr, organic green glowy for Sylvari. And even if you’re not the respective race, we should be able to swap those styles like any other weapon skin.
