"about face" struggles

Recommended Posts

So i see all the good players doing the about face thing fast and perfect and I want to learn to do this as wel.

so you hold [W] + hold [LMB] + single press [AF] to run back while keeping camera orientation.

then single press [RMB] to run back again, keeping your original orientation.

(and then weave your attacks in ofc)

However: when i do the [RMB] too fast, the camera turns. This does not happen when i wait for about a second.

Is this intedend? I have the feeling other people in pvp vids can do this way faster without getting turned around

(wouldnt it be nice is aboutface would hold your camera position by default? Or if theres a keymapping tool that would always do [LMB] + [AF] and then map it to a single key... but thats probably against the rules...)

they are using the free camera option, that you move it all the time

Even with free camera if you about face twice in a row too fast camera does 180 switch (which you never want to happen) . So yeah there is timing to using about face, also seriously you should use bindings of your own to make it easier... Otherwise you won't gain a tool to duel but just make your life harder.

I know exactly what OP is talking about.

Step 1. Hold W to move

Step 2. Hold LMB

Step 3. Press About Face.

This lets you move backwards while keeping camera orientation.

To turn around again simply:

Step 4. Continue holding LMB

Step 5. Press RMB

Step 4 is very important. If you skip it, you need to wait a little bit before doing Step 5. If you don't, your camera will flip 180 degrees and you'll continue running backwards.

If you WANT to keep moving backwards and flip the camera 180 degrees do this instead:

Step 4. Release LMB

Step 5. Hold RMB

Step 6. Press About Face

OR

Step 4. Release LMB

Step 5. Quickly Press RMB.

That will flip your camera back around to the direction you're running

yeah this thing is unfortunately mandatory in successful fighting nowadays. fights where indeed more interesting in the past when about face and free camera didnt exist.

nowadays too many fights end without result cause too many people just kite until their oponent needs to go to work the next day and win then cause the other side has no time left and needs to log off. win by forfeit cause the kite until christmas has been successful.

Some people behave like idiots whit this specially in wvw roaming and cry around that they have "no content" anymore. who likes to play a pvp game where the kiter believes he won cause he pissed off into nomans land? the stronger fighter shall have in an pvp encounter the experience of success indeed.

One another point that causes frustration in competitive. 1200 viewers only on twitch in EU primetime for an really hard earned reason.

Ever tried to turn 180° on spot while full sprinting and looking backwards while doing so in real life? try it out, i wont pay for teeth reparations.

Kiting is too rewarding and needs more penalty. Who wants to kite should need to turn his camera and should not be able to look backwards without turning again. Or looking backwards while kiting slows down so one can only peek backwards and needs to look forward then again for full speed. in real life its not different.

About face and free camera have always existed, or at least since very early on in 2012
