Class Complexity Rating

Core guardian is deceptive to new players because it’s really easy at first (there’s a reason it’s recommended for key running) but at some point they hit “what do you mean my plate-wearing paladin doesn’t just facetank?”

This. Guardian was my first toon and it was NOT easy. The abysmally low base hp made me quickly realize I have to be very proactive with my defenses if i want to stay vertical. And small reminder guardian downstate sucks in pve, so once you go down you stay down.

Meanwhile a Warrior starts off with over 50% more health, same armor type, and really just needs healing signet and adrenal health from Defense line to handle healing passively, while you do warrior things.
Only under heavy pressure or after making a big mistake does a warrior cave in, while guard had to be on his toes at all times.

Warriors having more sustain and defensive tools than guardians. Is it April yet?

My point wasn't who has more (guard does), but how warriors are sustaining pretty much outta the box passively and just gotta focus on hitting stuff most of the time.

While guards gotta stay on their toes all the time with their bloks, heals and blinds. Least that's how it used to be in early days of GW2.

I guess it has the merit of being efficient.

This kind of very broad rating would never be accurate and I don't think it is the goal. As many pointed out already the simplest build in the game currently (Power rifle Mechanist) being associated with a 3 star complexity rating is iffy at best and there is some other outliers. It also change depending on the game mode. For example rating the WvW Heal Firebrand and the WvW Heal Scrapper 1 and 3 stars respectively feels weird.

I don't know how I feel about it, if it helps new player it is good I guess.

It's pretty much where I'd rank them myself. I think it absolutely does reflect the core profession and that elite specialisations can tune the complexity up or down, but brand-new players probably aren't thinking about raid rotations yet, and the meta builds might have changed by the time they do.

This. My experience with leveling was that with warrior having healsig and other forms of passive sustain, it was easy to get into a habit of facetanking everything because a lot of the time you'd survive...but if you did find yourself in over your head, well, by the time you realised your passive sustain was already overmatched and you didn't have much left in reserve to get you through. While with guardian, you have less chance get complacent, but if you make good use of the tools you have available you can get through things that warrior can't.

Warrior passive healing has been greatly nerfed a long time ago. Nobody uses or should use the signet in any game mode, it being inferior to other options. Might makes right isn't gonna carry you and it's inferior to guardian easily accessible regen. You probably need to spec for shouts and even then your sustain is going to be inferior to guardian.

Also let's just say some builds benefit more from celestial gear than others and that any flat HP buffs (jade core etc) obviously greatly favour classes with lower baseline HPs and leave it at that.

Haven't done the numbers on healsig myself, although I personally prefer more active heals.

I think you are grossly underestimating MMR, though. There are quite a few "PvE godmode" warrior builds that are based on MMR. You wouldn't bring them on raids, but it does the job when combined with an elite specialisation that brings good mitigation and/or sustain like spellbreaker or bladesworn.
