Cant download the game, Stops at 10-17 percent.

Recommended Posts

Hello, A new player here and was having a good time. I was playing with my old computer at the time. But i recently got a new pc and decided to download the client, but i seem to be encountering an issue. As the title says i cant download the game and i don't know what the issue is.

I did a little bit of research and see some similar problems, i tried fixing it by doing the add "3.216.240.151 assestcdn.101.arenanetwork.com". didnt work.
I also tried the VPN thing, where i would connect then disconnect to make it download again, but the problem is my download speed is so slow that whenever Im doing this.

Not really sure what is the issue is and as I said my pc is really new and im also using windows 11. Would appreciate any response.

That IP isn't valid - it changes every few days/weeks. It's currently 18.214.120.143 or 50.17.23.247.

If you're not 100% sure on modifying the hosts file, search the start menu for cmd, right click command prompt and select run as administrator. Copy the following line, right click the center of the command prompt window to paste it, and press enter to run it:

echo.50.17.23.247 assetcdn.101.arenanetworks.com>%windir%\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

(this will overwrite your hosts file with the 1 line)

After applying the hosts edit, delete Local.dat under %appdata%\Guild Wars 2, then launch GW2 with the options:

-log -patchconnections 1

If it gets stuck, let it sit for 5 minutes, then view Gw2.log under %appdata%\Guild Wars 2 for any errors.

If the hosts edit doesn't work, the problem is caused by other software, or worst case, your ISP, which will require a VPN.

Having the same problem.

I did @Healix.5819 setup and it failed. This is what I see at the end of the log:

I am using AT&T Fiber and it gets anywhere between 2-5% before it craps out. I am not using any security/AV software on my machine.

My speedtest through AT&T is 944 Mbps down/ 792 Mbps up (consistent with AT&T 1GB Fiber)
I was really wanting to get back into GW2 but I guess I will not be.

This is what I see at the end of the log:

That's what a bad server looks like. You need to do this:

If you were following what was posted in this topic, the IP changes every few days. It's currently 34.233.107.24

For a sample, here's one of the files you're stuck on. It's supposed to be 88 bytes, but the server is giving you a 0 byte file.

http://assetcdn.101.arenanetworks.com/program/101/1/0/2910332/compressed

For comparison, here's the file from the primary server:

http://origincdn.101.arenanetworks.com/program/101/1/0/2910332/compressed

You'd think that support would just kick a ticket over to operations to fix the 0 byte file...  I wonder if it's some failure not in the file itself on the server, but the server's http daemon.

  • 4 weeks later...

I got the same issue, when it was installed it would not update and I was thinking it was due to not checking regularly for updates, tried everything Support would likely suggest I do and it did not work.

Then I uninstalled it and cleaned up any leftover files and downloaded a fresh copy from this site and it stopped at 12% and would not budge, I know the issue was not my end as I had no trouble playing other games that were slightly more intensive resources wise and I could run GW2 anyway but for some reason, the launcher would not install the game.

Since then I have not tried to install again!

Anet claims to have fixed the issue.  Please see:

Still happening

you have to keep restarting the client and download a little at a time till it stops again

It's like they don't want people to download their game.

Still not fixed btw. Experiencing the same issue. The download is stuck at 0kb/s.

Try turn off IPV6 in your LAN setting and then flushdns. Relaunch GW2.
Works for me and some people.
