Change Mount Type While In Combat?

Recommended Posts

With the changes coming to being able to mount up in combat, the big question is, will we be able to change which mount we chose while we're in combat? It would only makes sense that we would be able to otherwise it would be tedious to have to out of combat just to swap and get back into combat. I wouldn't expect this to be in the game right away, but in the future at some point, this would be a great QoL improvement.

its only a mastery for skyscale so no you wont be able to get out of combat with any other mount.

I don't think that's what OP meant. Right now, in combat, you can't even change your mount selection (in normal UI, without hotkeys). It'd be nice to be able to switch that, even if you can't actually mount up because you're currently in combat.

Oh I see I just use mount keybinds so did not know that.

Are you even sure we will have access to any other mounts then Skyscale in SoTO? I don't see any mention about other mounts then Skyscale and from concept art I don't even see Skyscale.

It wouldn't surprise me that we will only have access to Skyscale and that's it while in SoTO maps.

You are talking about "any other mount" as there would possible to change mount in air from Skyscale to Griffon or vv.

As for OOC necessary to changing mounts that is a question related to if your mount are put into combat mode then all your UI will be locked which means that you can't interact with any UI elements including clicking on your skill bar to change mounts, use any items in Inventory or do anything that isn't bound to a key (which haven't been locked from if player have been set into combat mode).

With keybind you can use Bond of Faith to dismount (and you will not have access to BoF without PoF), you can enable Gliding or fast summon another air based mount (Griffon or Skyscale) - you will need to use BoF and fast use Air rescue to summon your mount again, but with how PoF Mastery works you will have almost no charge on your flight meter (look at Anomaly in the end of Wall Clinging section - quote are from there).

Quote

Using Air Rescue after the player has been propelled by upwards ley lines or a branded tornado over a certain altitude will cause the flight meter to start red instead of green, causing a very fast descent.

In PoF and even EoD maps it is very rare that you flying mount will be hit from ground and put into combat mode, but in SoTO you will probably have much more aerial combat from ground and in air and need to have this mastery (Combat Launch) to be able to summon your mount, especially if we don't have access to Gliding and need to use a mount instead.

With how changing in air mounts work right now you will need to have a wall to charge up flight meter and endurance or use Bond of Vigor (50% flight meter and full endurance bar) to stay in the same elevation without loosing height when you use BoF to get off mount in air.

That is why Updraft and Ley-Line have been added for mounts in air into this new Mastery track for keeping Skyscale in air as long as possible or  otherwise you would be falling to your death, when mounts HP will go to zero or when you can't use Gliding as it is not unlocked or even work in those maps.

You can't dismount when you are in SoTO maps from what I can see from news blog and advertising about SoTO, at least not without PoFs Crystal Champion Mastery (Bond of Faith).

Look in Options>Controls and set up your key bindings for mounts there. As for now it the only way to fast change mount. If you use your skill bar which only have one active mount that you can change from UI (you can also set a key bind to mount and dismount for default mount that is active here), then you might have problems from UI getting locked when set in combat mode.

https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Options

Use Escape key to open options or F11 (if you haven't changed default key bind for F11).

There is also add ons that you can use to control which mounts you summon.

Blish HUD module: https://new.blishhud.com/modules/?module=Manlaan.Mounts

You only need to download and install Blish HUD and from Blish HUD you enable this module.

Yes, sure.  From the official Press Release:  Advanced Flight Masteries: Acquiring the fan favorite Skyscale mount will be easier in Secrets of the Obscure, but for those players who train their Skyscale in both the new track from this expansion and the previously released Path of Fire will earn additional functionality for their skyscale. Two of the Secrets of the Obscure skyscale masteries - in-combat mounting and updraft use - will also apply to the griffon mount.
