Repton.6428
I am trying to understand DPS calculations so I can take my crappy rotation skills out of the equation when evaluating weapon and stat combinations. I've found a lot of information, but I can't quite seem to distill it down to all of the pieces. What I've read:https://wiki-en.guildwars2.com/wiki/Condition_Damagehttps://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Help:Damage_calculationhttps://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Damagehttps://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/User:DarkFire/Condition_Damage_OptimizationWith all of that swirling around in my head, I am not sure how the skills themselves tie into the formulas....As an example, if I want to compare the DPS of a character with the same stats and sigils, but switching weapons and 1 skill I'm not sure how the math comes together. So, if I wanted to compare DPS for scepter shooting Dragon's Tooth versus a dagger shooting Drake's Breath, can I do that? Has someone already done it?I know I could go beat on the golem with just those two skills and get to an answer for me, but it would be handy to have the math to add many skills in and take out my rotation ability/in-ability.Thanks for any help! Infusion.7149
None of that helps if you have a set of gear already (partial derivative is really not necessary, just as far to 100% condition duration as you can after hitting the condition damage breakpoints). Just use gw2skills editor and look at how much damage the skill does , if it is lower than the average autoattack then it probably isn't worth using. The problem is many skills have aftercast and animation time so the activation is misleading. You mentioned dragon's tooth which is an elementalist skill that is typical on power tempest, so I'm assuming you're trying to figure this out for a condi tempest. If you look at the logs on snowcrows you can see which skills do more than 5% of the damage if they don't do conditions on their own. Conditions will show as the condition damage they inflicted only. For condi tempest it is lightning orb, drake's breath (dagger mainhand not scepter), overload fire, burning speed (dagger mainhand), wildfire , overload earth.Wildfire inflicts 8 stacks of burning (10 when traited), burning speed inflicts 4 stacks (6 when traited), signet of fire inflicts 4 stacks, drake's breath (dagger mainhand) inflicts 4 stacks, sunspot traited applies 2 stacks of burning; dust storm applies 10 stacks of bleeding, ring of earth applies 3 stacks of bleeding , earthen rush applies 3 stacks of bleeding when traited. Presumably cyclone is used for the multiple hits to proc burning on crit from burning precision. This is condi tempest meta build:http://gw2skills.net/editor/?PGgEgEWGBbiRxuYk4o6Y2uA-zRJYmRDfZkQC0RBo5BRESAsYDc/jFdPrA-eIf you look at Drake's Breath it is 3,996 power damage if it's not a crit + 18,924 burning damage when you have 25 might and warrior banners. If you were to swap to scepter and look at Dragon's Tooth it is 2,810 power damage if it's not a crit + 11,828 burning damage when you have 25 might and warrior banners. Khisanth.2948
You might as well just whack the golem. Doing it through math requires knowing stuff like casting time and after cast and the information for those aren't available for all skills.
