How to fix the download refusing to continue/stuck bug!!

Recommended Posts

Ok this took me 1 week to fix but these are the are the things you need to check if you are stuck at playable 0-99% with anywhere between 66000-1 file remaining with downloading and the progress bar not moving at all.

First the problem is the download server is not accessible. Cuz a net doesn't provide support for low end routers with blocked/unavailable TCPIPv6.

The files are using an updated file herder witch confuses your TCPIPv4 making your router confessed on what the files are and by extension your PC./this is oversimplification/

Disabling the  QoS  Packet Scheduler will work only if you have enabled the TCPIPv6 in your router to be sure this is working just check your internet status:

Control Panel>Network and internet>Network and Sharing Center>(on the left)Change adapter settings>Than depending on if you are using WiFi or Ethernet>right click>Status

If: IPv6 Connectivity: No network access is shown the only way to fix your download is to use a VPN. I recommend Proton VPN cuz its 100% free and you will only use it for download. Connect to any US server and you will be done in less than 15 minutes!!

Everything else you can find in this reddit post!

The -assetsrv option has been broken/disabled for over a year now - you have to edit the hosts file instead. For most people, this is the only solution needed, as the problem is usually caused by the server hosting corrupted files.

To edit the hosts file:

Press WindowsKey+R, paste the following, then press CTRL+SHIFT+Enter to run it as an admin:

notepad %windir%\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

Add the following line, then save and launch GW2 - remove it when you're done:

3.210.229.193 assetcdn.101.arenanetworks.com

For future reference, the IP changes roughly every patch, so to find the current one, open cmd.exe and enter:

nslookup origincdn.101.arenanetworks.com 8.8.8.8

This worked for me. Thank you so much!

I have been stuck with the support for 17 days and they couldn't come with any solutions at all, they eventually gave up and told me to get help from a local professional...

notepad% windir% \ system32 \ drivers \ etc \ hosts

Adicione a seguinte linha, salve e inicie o GW2 - remova-o quando terminar:

3.210.229.193 assetcdn.101.arenanetworks.com

Para referência futura, o IP muda praticamente a cada patch, então, para encontrar o atual, abra cmd.exe e digite:

nslookup origincdn.101.arenanetworks.com 8.8.8.8

Thank you so much for your help, really. I was hopeless, I tried everything, and nothing worked, you're too amazing.

Hello.
I encountered the same exact error with my downloading get stuck at 93% and around 41.9K files remaining. After around 12 hours of re-installing the game, searching forums for solutions, I came to this exact post, and it was the only thing that helped.
Thank you so much for this. You're a life saver.
Although I could play the game with those files missing, it's still a big annoyance to have to go through all of that.

It works, and as I am typing this, I am finally able to download the remaining files.

Stay gaming!

This used to be an issue every time a patch came out, now I have to edit the hosts file every time I try to launch GW2.

Modifying the host file should only be done when you're stuck patching and it should be removed after it finishes. If you leave it, the game will eventually fail to connect as the IP changes regularly, which can make it look as if you need to do it every time.

If you're actually needing to set the IP for some other reason, use a different DNS provider instead, like 8.8.8.8 or 1.1.1.1.

When i use 44.193.164.116 assetcdn.101.arenanetworks.com it just keeps downloading things again without files remaining going down.

Did you look up the current IP as explained in previous posts?  It may have changed.

just to clarify, this example "# 3.228.225.206 assetcdn.101.arenanetworks.com" is wrong because of the "#" in front. the hash actually means it will ignore the line because it is meant to put description after it. so whatever is looking at the file ignores this line.

FYA.

Also.

Example to find the correct ip:

CMD Prompt>nslookup origincdn.101.arenanetworks.com
Server:  dns.google
Address:  8.8.8.8

Non-authoritative answer:
Name:    origincdn.101.arenanetworks.com
Addresses:  44.193.164.116
          3.92.131.16

so it can be either:

44.193.164.116 assetcdn.101.arenanetworks.com

or

3.92.131.16 assetcdn.101.arenanetworks.com

Sometimes I wonder if that problem is only not getting fixed, because they don't really care about newcomers or returners anymore. The fixed players put up with and go through those same hoops time and time again, while new players and returners only see a broken updater and move on. It's a shame really, considering that GW2 is pretty fun.

Hey,

I followed the complete steps :

1. I started by using nslookup, to get the following output :

>nslookup origincdn.101.arenanetworks.com 8.8.8.8
Server:  dns.google
Address:  8.8.8.8

Non-authoritative answer:
Name:    origincdn.101.arenanetworks.com.domain.name
Address:  195.201.199.239

I then edited my hosts file, adding the line :

195.201.199.239 assetcdn.101.arenanetworks.com

at the end of my host entries (without the #). This is my only host entry.

Now, when I launch the gw2 client, it hangs at the "Initializing" stage, and gives me a connection error :

"Connection error(s) detected. Retrying..."

i.e. it does not even reach the launcher where you login or see the download progress.

2. If I comment out the host entry (add a #), then the launcher stage is reached, but I am, ofcourse, stuck on downloading the same file.

3. I checked the log file (adding -log to target), and the contents were :

The game has crossed into the "playable" stage, i.e. I can launch it, but I'm not sure what the effects would be on the gameplay if I still have 139,654 files remaining (I assume ~140k files would give me some issues), and I'm not sure if the files will be correctly downloaded if I need them ingame.

I further tries switching around to different languages (FR/DE/ES), and although some files were downloaded (presumably language files), they all eventually got stuck at different numbers. I'm also guessing I've bloated my game files with these language files, but c'est la vie.

If there's no response, I suppose I will try using a VPN. I don't own one, but there seem to be some free ones out there - will update if that works.

I don't know if anyone at ArenaNet is paying attention to the forums, but if you are, this is shameful. This issue can easily be automated for detection and fixed automatically as well; the only reason this isn't happening is because ANet is choosing not to.

Update:

I used a VPN, which worked, and I allowed a download of ~3-4k files for good measure. Switching it off still allows download to progress, so I'm guessing that not all files are corrupt (based on what I'm reading on the forums) on the cdn server.

Hopefully this will allow the complete remainder of files to be downloaded. Will update if successful.

You have a domain configured that is returning your own IP. You can avoid that by adding a . to the end of .com:
nslookup origincdn.101.arenanetworks.com. 8.8.8.8

The current IP is 34.227.125.9 or 52.73.27.164
