Helloi just come back to this game and leveled my Guardian to 80, i've also bought HoT and PoF for the story. Lately i got some troubles with my build , i feel very squishy. For example, sometimes i do Tarir Meta event i fight the Modrem archer, he shoot out a line deal DoT, the moment i see the line either got instant down or lose alot HP (if aegis is not on). Not to mention when i got in crowded situation the DoT line is almost impossible to see to dodge. Thing can be easier if i play Dragonhunter because i can keep distance and damage him from afar with bow. I used to use 2 Exotic Carrion Ring with Exquisite Sapphire and its do just fine but since i change to Bakg Nakh and Ralena Band i turned very squishy. I dont want to be the top DPS in team just want to deal decent damage so i can do something else like heal or buff my friends. I hope you guys can give me some advice or build to help me

Those Mordrem archers are like that. With enough scaling they insta-gib anyone that gets hit by their sniper fire. Doesn't matter how much passive defense you build up.

Anyway, for simplicity sake the best way to build a class is to have full glass cannon gear, and adjust traits/utilities for more defenses. The reason for this is pretty simple: If you take defensive stats, then you can't push your DPS higher as needed. But if you take offensive stats, you'll always have peak DPS when needed, but you can easily change your traits/utilities for more survival.

So, if you want more survival, you'd wear full berserker gear, but trait into Valor and Honor, or use sword + focus instead of greatsword.

Hi there. Try the "Open World" builds from MetaBattle, they're actually pretty good. Also keep in mind if anyone recommends builds from Snow Crows, they only do raid builds, not Open World, Fractals, Dungeons, WvW or sPvP.

Right. I see your problem.Your gear is a bit of a mish-mash of different things. You haven't really honed in on what type of damage you want to do. That doesn't translate well into damage.Based on your traits and specializations I would've guessed you were focusing on condition damage but your gear doesn't really support that playstyle too well.I think the squishiness you are experiencing might just be because your TTK is too long.

I won't give you a build for now so we don't get bogged down into specific little nuances. I'll just say that if you intend to play Firebrand, conditions (this games version of DoT's) are the way to go. Guardians best damaging condition is Burning which you'll want to maximize. Sigils of Smoldering are good but you only get the benefit from 1 sigil per weapon set, the other Sigil in the given set will have to be a different one. I would recommend Malice, Bursting, Geomancy, Torment or Corruption. Runes of Balthazar would give you +45% Burning Duration. Together with the trait, that's 185% total duration. Then you can eat some Fire Meat Chili for that last 15%.Next up you will want to maximixe your condition damage. Aim for 1200+ condition damage with a mix of Dire and Carrion stats that can be bought from the TP.Use Axe and Scepter as Mainhand weapons. Don't equip a second off-hand weapon, you'll want to always make use of the 4 skill on Torch when Radiant Fire procs. However, the strongest defense in this game isn't your stats. It's your skills. The F3 tome is a heavy damage mitigator that you don't have to sacrifice a slot for.

For Open world as a core guardian, one easy build can be something like this : http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vVAQNAR8dnkIClDhVBBWDB8DhjBi6etNQFkLwFsBtBQ12mA-jBSBABHp87hLCwNq/Qz+DJY+DgnAwtKBRR3AA-e.

If you want to play Dragonhunter, I have 2 nice build I play from time to time. First one is Dammage focused with a bit of vitality (can't stand the 11k hp. sorry!) : http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vVAQNAR7dnkICddiVBBGCBkdil4BrKA0AqXy7v+3C0qEkviUA-jBSBABA8EAuR9njU+hiuhHuIA3qEkm9HSw8HA-e.

The second build is my favorite and my current one. You'll need some crafting. This build isn't necessarely "meta" but it lets you exploit all the strength of a guardian dragonhunter : http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vVEQNAT8enkICtDhVdCWDBkdilBi66a/gKwKAq22U+6z+zH-jRSBAB3qEMGdDA8kCef/BUV/5IlfoohR/LqQCm/IFgfTwA-e.

The healing skill affect greatly your dammage. You will be able to use very often. The second build is up to you if you want to try it. I'm playing this for at least 1 year. Took me times to do it, but imo, this is the best I could do as a guardian.

Your build has low power and low condi (burn) damage. The toughness only makes you a bigger target.

This is the open world Firebrand I use:http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vVAQNAnfWl0AhmhY5QwbIQTELBEWWC6BNhsCAPg30eE9i2RB-jhiAQBOVfjYVGkUlgA4JAsAzQzY/h+dIAg2JAArq/gGlekCYRRbA-e

  • This will give you more burn damage and more healing from your tomes.
  • Two stunbreaks
  • Another AOE burn
  • Two condi cleanse
  • Staff gives you a ranged option
  • More health
