Hours of grinding for Pristine Smoke Claw...?

Praise RNGesus! I did what so many of you suggested -- took my Necro off to other maps to do some events, and when I went back to AB, it dropped from the first Smokescale I killed. Perhaps the ANet gods had also read this thread and took pity on me, who knows.

I thank everyone very much who responded here. I had misunderstood when DR wore off. To say that my Necro is going to wear this Pristine Smoke Claw as an accessory FOREVER is probably an understatement. This community rocks; thanks again!

Amusing footnote to this thread: a Necromancer in my group got this to drop off a smoke scale in T2 Siren's Reef today. RNG is everywhere :)

When I first read, tried and experienced Smokeclaw farming, it was like hell no.... People in DS meta was like saying drop rate 1:100, no way I am going through that one. Then I come out with a alternative to beat that DR. I went off to frac T1 and duel with 2 veteran smoke screens. Polly can get a friend to help but I got it in my first kill. Hope my experience helps.

Spotted like 3 Veteran Smokeclaws along North of Rooted Copse. If you're fighting Smokeclaws thats the wrong one, you need fight Vet Smokeclaws they're slightly bigger in size and much tougher then regular ones
