    Besides what about it? We are nowhere near the population of BB (at best we're 30% smaller) and very likely also below the population of a few other servers. And even if you wanted to say Gandarans are generally incompetent, the last time we had a link we were comfortably in T1 (with FR), we didn't duck anyone and, when they finally arrived, we stayed ahead of the stackatron GH+WSR both in score and in kdr most of the week (the the difference in numbers that was already there at the weekend, became insurmountable during the week. We had hardly any queue at the weekend also). Anyone else that relink got farmed by them. 

    Wait, it just occurred to me, it logically follows that unless you're one of the good frenchies, you're either a bandwagoner or play on a worse server than Gandara!

    And btw, I'd be happy to bet the last server to beat BB while not linked was Gandara. However the problem of the current system is that the other servers also don't play when unlinked and it's almost impossible to win a match that is not WvWvW but WvW (1v1) against someone outnumbering you that much. You need at least the 3rd server to play ball.

    A link for everyone? Open all linkless servers, so at least there will be 3 servers with similar numbers? I think any competent server with numbers like BB, would be a middle of the pack team, rather than yo-yoing between T5 and T4.

    But just try something new. Give them the smallest link and see how it goes.

    This is false.

    1. Gandara does not have queues on Friday and Saturday evening and this is a FACT.

    2. It's not just BB that outnumbers Gandara even on Friday and Saturday. Desolation has similar numbers (perhaps slightly less) and AM traditionally also has about the same. BB is much higher than anyone else, including Gandara and all of the above

    3. This week and 2 weeks ago Baruch Bay had 2 different blobs both equal in numbers to Cormac's lonely tag st the weekend. And because he spent his time porting and defending (see no queue for a large tag swapping between EB and home border?), our kdr skyrocketed. Wipe one blob, move, wipe the other, rinse and repeat. And that's in the evening: later at night BB numbers stay the same or increase, while the opponents are fewer and fewer.

    Either way the thread is not about limiting their numbers (that seems obvious, but it's largely irrelevant since they significantly outnumber only the 2 linkless servers), it's about forcing some change to make them more normal. Give them a link so they can go in higher tiers where with even numbers will average a 0.5 kdr and get farmed day and night. This server shouldn't exist in its current form. Why is there no spanish server on NA? Why do we have to suffer through boredom and weird/lopsided time coverage forced down our throats because the current system (and BB lack of skilled players) ensures horrible mobility through the tiers and imbalances at every level?

    All I know is that the server populations listed are not what I see in WvW.  A "full" server should have at least 2-3 maps queued 2+ days out of the week, not just the weekends.  If their entire formula is based around what is happening from Friday @ reset into Sunday night 10p server time, they are completely off the mark for the rest of the week.  That particular time frame a person can go to Diamond Pip Chest, and have recycled Diamond 2+ times (depending on how dedicated they are).  However, that is not indicative of the entire week.

    Allegedly Gandara is the reference for EU and so always closed. Amount of queues on Gandara? 1 map on Friday or Saturday when there is more than 1 tag on. If we're lucky. Generally, no queues ever. Even last relink with FR we almost had no queues.

    During the beta week I had queues on 4 maps at prime time (including 60 on EB), 3 during the day at the weekend and 2 maps throughout the week. The overall amount of players on EU did not change, so it means that this situation must be normal for some other teams in the current system...and it's direct damning evidence that their algorithm is simply garbage.

    And yes, Gandara has a disproportionally higher participation at the weekend and specifically Friday and Saturday evening. After that we're outnumbered even by servers that are tanking on purpose.

  5. Most boring server to play. While outnumbered on pretty much every map earlier today, we had a kdr of 2.7 over 2 skirmishes, most kills coming from people on Baruch Bay (also Riverside players are beginning to seem like rare mythical creatures, rumoured to exist, but nobody ever sees them). Then at night Baruch Bay outnumber both opponents 40/50 to 1 and you end up with a PPT tick of 440/10/0. The sad thing is that even by covering time zones that are usually fairly empty on EU and the fact they run in groups they are so bad that they can't even stay in T4.

    Just lock them. And consider giving them a link. At least they may get some competent people through the link or if they are on their own maybe it will force them to become better at fighting. Alternatively just transfer them to NA: they play at NA times anyway, we don't have to die of boredom every other week, just make them a NA problem. Farming them is so boring that when you see a cele harbinger+soulbeast together you still take the 1v2 because you know the odds are in your favour. This is not normal.

    Please fix it one way or another.

    Let's just remind everyone that GH+WSR last link was way worse and more stacked and there was only a reasonably close match (at least up to the Wednesday) when they played Gandara+FR.

    Of course everything pales in comparison to that ill-fated link between Deso and WSR that was so stacked that they didn't lose a single skirmish (skirmish not match...) for a month and lost like 10-12 in the whole period.

    You now changed your position and saying you are a mediocre wvw player who loses an average amount of 1v1s? I mean, you told everyone that you were so pro at 1v1s and suddenly you are fighting armies of hackers all hacking the same way?

    Note there is no reason to hack to get into a tower, you just need one person to exploit without hacks and a portal everyone else. Anet probably won't ever touch whoever exploited and certainly won't touch the ones who took the portal.

    Yeah that's what I do: kill the guard half build something so that when they respawn the keep will get contested again even if you are not there.

    • If Flesh Wurm is not in her melee range, she will target it anyway, regardless of my toughness.

     

    Maybe I messed it up today, but I did attempt the solo 3x with different builds and failed each time, while it was a piece of cake previously.
    Does anyone else solo tower here and realized the same?
    EDIT: Turns out, that I had only half my stats with toughness, and I indeed messed up. I hope you still learned something about solo tower.

     

    I can't find back where I read the information about NPC/pet focus and their damage reduction. Could anyone link a wiki article of it?

    I don't understand. I thought tower lords are all soloable on any class, including the parched and necro lords that are slightly more problematic.

    Haven't played ranger in a long time in WvW but the mechanist golem does get aggro on lords.

    Not gonna happen, but it should: Gandara has been open for 2 weeks in 2+ years and one of those 2 weeks was a mistake on Anet's end and almost certainly not intended as they fiddled with population limits and all servers' population got downgraded.

    Bingo! People greatly greatly overstate the difference between any full server and a medium server on EU. Looking at K+D and having an educated guess that Gandara is the largest server (except BB)  and it's the benchmark to close other servers participation is something like:

    #1 BB=100

    #2 Gandara =80

    #27 Smallest server = 40

    Hence, you can understand how Gandara won't ever beat BB, when unlinked, unless people do play a lot more during the week than usual (it happened more than once, but it usually also requires the 3rd server not to be a beating drum and to be very strong in the early morning like one of the German servers). No other server will beat Gandara when unlinked. Any host+link will usually exceed 100 participation and, in any case, 2 servers also have an advantage of having better spread coverage.

Yesterday I was playing with my side having ~30 or so players tops, and both other teams having easily >70 players. I am unable to verify whether I am exaggerating (I have zero way of seeing how many players are online on any of the teams). But the fact remains that imbalance that bad really should not be *possible* much less something halfway expected at this point!

     

    Anyway, this is really just food for thought. It would be nice if it was implemented in some way for the next servers relink.

     

    In summary: always 2 servers probably bad, sometimes 1 or 3 servers probably good.

    Pair them with Baruch Bay since this scourge they insist on inflicting on EU unlinked servers plays in NA timezones anyway. BB: also never closed to transfers come hell or high water. So since they would probably get blown out because they are in fact pretty bad at WvW and highly farmable and the only thing going for them is greatly outnumbering the opponents and playing in the middle of the night for EU countries, they could always recruit even more players.

    It's an easy build that lets less skilled players guarantee that they'll always be somewhat of a threat. But that's where its positives end. 

    Mechanist is frail, extremely easy to kill when outnumbered, hard countered by projectile hate (which you should have in order to deal with Untamed, Soulbeast, Deadeye, Harbinger, and Virtuoso), hard countered by classes that can easily port on top of it and burst it down, has awful condi cleanse (so celestial bruiser builds have a good matchup into it), and while its mobility is decent, it's not enough to escape or chase down some of the slipperiest builds out there. Burning Shift signet for mobility leaves them vulnerable to stunlocks and condi bombs since they rely on this skill to handle both. 

     

    Essentially, Mechs are just praying you panic or don't know how to handle the pressure, because if you can abuse any of the weaknesses above, Mechs will fall over and die. They can match the damage of some of the more dangerous builds out there, but they lack the stealth, block spam, invuln spam, damage reduction, perma prot, ect. And they dont get much milage out of cele stats compared to other builds. If they fight a cele build they will be pew pewing into a wall with toughness, protection, and plenty of condis to abuse their condi weakness. 

    If you have projectile destruction, abuse it. For a thief, smokescreen is your best friend. For ele, spam magnetic aura and they can do pretty much nothing to you, for Harbinger... just run Cele stats and run corrosive poision cloud. Spam condis on them, watch as they panic burn shift signet and then pop elixir of ambition on them and they'll fall over.  For DE... you outrange them, and if you're one of those diabolical people who play it with Shadow arts and Cele stats... then camp them at 1500 range whenever possible (use stealth to reposition if need be). Your rifle has a 300 range advantage on theirs, make use of it if you get the opener on them.  Use sniper's cover in a pinch to just completely shut down their pressure. The mech will be struggling to get in range to do anything to you. You can immobilize spam them to make them burn shift signet. 

    Once they're down, stealth stomps pretty much hard counter them because for some reason the wire pull GOES RIGHT THROUGH PEOPLE when they're in stealth. (yes i am salty about this) Stealth also denies their bot from auto attacking you. 

    If you don't have stealth, pulsing blind fields, tele stomps, and invuln stomps are all good methods to secure downs. Engis can't physically move their body to outplay it like ele, thief, and mesmer can. If I'm playing ele, I just drop dust storm on the engi to deny their pull, then give myself mag aura so the bot can't touch me.  Just don't play around and have your stomp method planned out ahead of time, and you won't get cheesed by the bot. 

     

    Long story short. Mech is easy to play, but it's not overpowered. I think people get salty about it because it lets people who they perceive as being worse at the game than them kill them. Abuse its weaknesses and the fight becomes 10x easier. 
     

    Edit: It's also hot garbage in zergs so there's that.

    We always get FR and Deso which is the closest server to us in time zone coverage and numbers also usually gets FR or another small french server.

    I'd rather have a 'medium' server (which isn't nearly as small as people would like you to believe) of a different language as a link, than no link 100 times out of 100. No link = destined to T5 for 2 months fighting the same people over and over. Unless you are BB, a server greatly outnumbering any other server individually, and then you spend 1 week in T5 and the next in T4, because someone's gotta win the linkless battle every fortnight.

    Also, that nickname is frankly laughable nowadays. You know those servers which hug SM and bait people so they can gank and get kills on EB? Gandara is not one of those. And those servers which dispatch 10-12 player guild groups 'guarding' spawn camps on borderlands? Again, not one of those either.

    Gandara likes to be carried, not carry themselves, since somehow a medium link are ppt gods and can get them from t5 to t1.

    The pattern with Gandara is very obvious, yes, but not to people not able to look and understand the numbers...we have high participation 2 nights a week: Friday and Saturday, during which we may or may not have a queue on 1 map and normally win skirmishes while doing well on both PPT and PPK. This happens even when we are outnumbered at the weekend, it's just that when our numbers are reasonably close to the opponents', we do well. Last week with Riverside completely nonexistent and fighting TWO full blobs of BB we had a kdr of 4.7 on Friday night (and BB 0.2x).

    Our K+D tells you everything about participation and this story that medium servers have no population would be funny if it wasn't a tragic indicator of the teller's knowledge on this matter. The difference between servers like Desolation, Gandara and SFR and the least populated servers in EU is 30%-40% at best which is why Anet leaving servers with no link just destroys the game mode. You can see this with BB: they outnumber any other single server by at least 25% and when they face servers with a link they are suddenly outnumbered (not at night but on average) and so they yo-yo between T4 and T5. Fort Ranik, this medium server you have been talking about, was running their own tags last relink too. 

    Btw when we had BB at 400+ PPT, Riverside at 20+ (they left them their T3 garrison) and Gandara at 0 during the week, I invited Devs I have seen roaming before to have a look, take a screenshot and email it to their bosses and, from what I gathered, I'm quite sure they are aware that this system is not fit for purpose.

    So... what's the DEVELOPER perspective please? 

    Gandara+FR did not dominate T1, we were outnumbered by GH+WSR just like everyone else. It's not our fault that they were placed inT5 and spent 4 weeks steamrolling other servers.

    When they got to T1  we lost too and it was only close because Gandara was ahead in the score (as we often are) after the weekend and because we also had a higher kdr than them as well (while everyone else has been getting farmed by them during that link period).

    And during that time we had queues during prime time only on EB and sometimes home (I had queues everywhere and almost every day during the Beta). Now, if you want to keep living in a state of delusion or want to rewrite history, at least make realistic claims or give us an indication you know what you're talking about.

    The reality is: Gandara with a good medium link, which FR is indeed, gave the stackatron (GH+WSR) a run for their money hen they finally got to T1, but even us cannot compete against one server outnumbering us (WSR) and another being fairly close (GH) in numbers with a smaller link. That's all there is to it.
