  1. I didn't do a lot of testing of the pistol. I will say that to compete with scepter, it needs to do more damage in the absence of projectile denial/reflect and regular condi cleansing. Also condi should do more damage than power weapons considering they have to deal with cleanses. Pistol also requires facing the target which is a pretty big disadvantage in pvp/wvw compared to scepter. They should keep that in mind as they tune numbers. Thematically, the pistol looked ok... If the numbers are there, I'd use it situationally.
  2. If they took on the design philosophy that difficulty translates to higher damage potential, it wouldn't need to scale linearly. If say ele is 2x harder, if it just did 10% more damage, many people would be happy to play it. However, I don't think all ele specs are really hard. As a primarily pvper, imo, Weaver slow access to offhand skills should be rewarded a lot more than it currently is. A tempest in most cases seems a lot simpler and slow to play and probably shouldn't have that potential of a weaver. A good start would be getting comment from balance team on the philosophy around difficulty and feasibility to execute a build and balance intent based on that. Also, if they intend to try to move the other way and make harder professions easier to execute (I hope they don't...).
  3. Intended, but they didn't update the tooltip when it was changed.
  4. With the current controls, it is very mechanically demanding to do what you are trying to do. I think this is exacerbated by 1) left click taking a short drag to engage the camera move and 2) there being a short cool down with about facing. It takes a lot of practice and probably shouldn't if it was better designed and coded.
  5. Elementalist shines in the fun department imo... At least fresh air weaver. Fun is the most important aspect because if the spec you are playing isn't fun what are we doing here? I do think it'd be really cool to make unravel a baseline skill f5 rather than a utility.
  6. As a former long time thief, I'd characterize thief as very low skill floor and one of the higher skill ceilings. Good luck playing as well as sindrener or yama. I think what is annoying is the crutch stealth is for low skill players. They can escape easily, just wait for numbers, or reset and try again. People don't talk about it much but part of the issue is the constant detargeting. Some specs require a target for any substantial effect and so you really need to outplay the thief. Other things like tools holo doesn't care as much with more aoe and reveals. In spvp, thieves can just +1, do almost nothing of value, and still escape to decap or threaten decap. That is the low skill floor in action.
  7. I assume he is talking about getting two full stealth cycles out of a single black powder. You bp, heartseeker into the enemy and you are now in stealth and have damaged them. Then you wait 3 seconds and right as stealth is dropping, get another heartseeker through the same black powder and land it again. You are still in stealth and only visible for a fraction of a second. This tactic relies on the enemy being close to your black powder or you having teleports ready to land the hs. It also doesn't hit 5k unless they are already under the health thresholds for heartseeker. You also get ini, stealth cleanses, blinds for free. How do they fix this? Well, they could make revealed on any damage regardless of if you were in stealth or not. But that is a huge nerf and breaks combos and they'd need some buffs to compensate.
  8. Other than heartseeker through bp, I don't know of any way to stay in stealth while dealing damage. I used to play thief a lot but it is mega boring these days. Anyway, I agree stealth in the spammable form is OP.
  9. Macros aren't allowed. What killed you? If it was a fresh air weaver, they end most combos with the same few instant cast abilities. It is really pretty easy to get good at with a little practice.
  10. Long time thief pvper here...yes, it is cheesy as hell. I'd much prefer they delete it from the game so I can play anything else and not have to worry about them.
  11. Thief preparations behave differently when attempting to activate them. If you are mid jump and activate them the following happens: Prepare thousand needles - activates just fine mid jump Prepare pitfall - disappears without activating - this one needs fixing the most... Prepare shadow portal - cannot activate Prepare seal area - cannot activate It'd be nice to see some consistency in behavior here.
  12. At least in pvp with crit strikes, it hits for about 3k. It hits for around 2k with shadow arts. Imo, the spec is both boring to play as and against. It is too much of a 1 trick pony that is easily countered. There should be more purpose to other skills and spamming 2 shouldn't be a normal thing.
  13. At least in pvp, I like it where it is .. there are good choices to make in all 3 traits and stealth isn't as long as it was.
  14. I've played thief since release, though with long breaks of the game. My best pvp season I hit rank 200 and about 1650 rating. I consider myself a decent gamer, but not that great at GW2 pvp because I don't really even know all the abilities of other classes, don't keep up with the meta, and mostly play off meta meme specs. If I play a meme build like p/d condi or deadeye, it is easy to pwn some nubs. However, when I get into games with actual good players, I'll be 90% countered and be very ineffective. If I play d/p, I seem to do pretty low damage and also just get cleaved out of most fights almost instantly. Even supposedly good players streaming seem to not do that much as d/p thief... they kind of threaten decaps and barely do any damage. Sw/p or sw/d I don't really like... to me it feels like the worst weapon set to actually do damage. Poking and annoying, fine, but carrying games, seems hard. So I guess my question is where does thief actually stand right now in high level pvp? Is it just the standard d/p roamer still or has the mobility creep made other classes just better? Or is it just L2P? Are thieves supposed to be weaker than other classes due to mobility? Has the mobility creep changed that?
  15. Thanks, that is very well explained. It is unfortunate that the behavior of about face changes in those cases.
  16. Context: I've had this issue for years and after playing GW2 for a few months I try again to fix it. I try to play WvW and sPvP competitively and in that mode, you need to be able to do the left click + "about-face" to reliably turn around without the camera following. This is used for abilities like deadeye rifle 4, roll for initiative, withdraw (thief heal), etc. to be able to move forward rather than backward. The issue: The issue I face is that the left mouse click does not grab the screen and the cursor disappear until you've also moved the mouse a certain amount while holding left click. What I have tried: To solve this issue, I've attempted running super low graphics settings where I am getting 100-150 fps, disabled usb power saving features, updated all drivers, tried different mice (all wired mice), lowered mouse polling rate to 125 or 250, disabled "enhance pointer precision" in windows, disabled v-sync, closed external programs like discord, deleted any mods, cleared cache, directx9 to 12 proxy, etc.etc.etc. Questions: First, I'd like to know if this is normal behavior where the mouse cursor does not disappear when you left click, but rather takes a bit of movement after you start holding left click? Following that, I'd love to hear any potential solutions.
  17. Stow weapons inconsistently stops autoattack depending on which part of the autoattack it is used on. This is very frustrating when trying to stow weapons, steal to use Hidden Thief trait, and then use the sneak attack rather than autoattack. In its current state, very often you stow weapon spam, steal, get stealth, STILL autoattack breaking stealth, get revealed. All that needs to be done is either add stop autoattack function to stow weapons or make it a separate keybind. ESC key already does this functionality, but of course it is an overloaded key and you may end up opening up the menu in combat. Please see this old archived thread about this problem. https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/pvp/FIX-stow-weapon-plz
  18. I just started gearing my thief again and playing condi p/d. This makes me sad that my dps just got cut by about 30% in many situations. Just tested it and pistol autos are doing just barely more than single target shortbow autos against poisoned enemies. Against more than 1 enemy, shortbow dominates pistol mainhand. :(
