  1. I don't know ... people are motived for all kinds of reasons to buy skins. I don't actually NEED to explain this because I'm not promoting the idea that Anet would have to put the work in to uncripple it just to make selling skins for it attractive when there are better alternatives to selling skins. What are better alternatives? Let me guess. You'll say again, we already have other mounts, they can make skins for those. Well, we already had wings, they could just continue to make wings, but they gave in after years and started making capes as well. They didn't have to change an existing function of the game to do that. Also, wings and capes are purely cosmetic.
  2. What they should have done IMO: Create kind of a Pact "boot camp" for jungle warfare in Silverwastes that players have to pass before they are allowed to enter VB (possibly as part of the personal story): "Commander, we have managed to capture some Mordrem and wildlife from the Maguuma jungle. We use them to familiarize our troops with the threads that await us there." Players would then get pitched into 1-on-1 fights against some typical Maguuma opponents, for instance: fight a Mordrem sniper without getting hit by his charged shotfight a rolling devil by breaking its defiance barfight a smokescale where they have to move out of the smoke screenfight a Mordrem cavalier without getting knocked down, etc ... But of course it's much too late for that now. I guess the best one can do now to accustom oneself to the difficulty increase is something like:-> play a bit in Orr-> play at least a couple of days in SW (non-RIBA), gives you a bit of foretaste of what to expect in HoT-> VB if they had done that, i wouldnt even had entered maguma. they would had lost even more players and money. it sucks now, but telling playersin advance HOW much it sucks is a big mistake Yeah, this type of gating would not have been a good idea IMO. I think that most of the complaints have come from new players boosting to 80 and then getting wiped in HoT because they don't know anything about the game's mechanics or their character's skills/abilities/gear/build. Does the core game properly prepare players for HoT? Arguably no, but gating access to an expansion in the manner suggested isn't the answer. At least, I don't believe so. Well, it is gated already. You have to do the story mission "Rally to Maguuma" once to get access to Verdant Brink. Basically I would just switch the content of that mission to what I suggested. Only one time per account ofc, like it is now. And if people decide to circumvent it via Teleport to Friend, guild halls and whatnot - sure, it's their choice.Didn't say that it wasn't gated; only that the type of gating suggested would not have been a good idea. IMO
  3. While I agree that the marketing for LW could be more clear, your friends would not have had to fork over any money. Nothing says that players have to buy/unlock ALL of the LW content at one time. They could have simply played the game and converted gold -> gems to purchase chapters one at a time. Well what about not nickel and dimming them? Gold for Gems is not even a valid option for new players so most will not stick around to grind out the gems they need for weeks and months they just quit, punishing new players with paying for living world access which gets more every year is definitely not a smart move. If they played the game they would accumulate the necessary gold to convert to gems. /shrug Yeah what a way to counter my argument ppl should grind out Gold for months just to experience the main story, the main story is what should draw ppl in and make them stay to spend money not the other way around, anyway i hope you remember this when NCSoft inevitably pulls the plug in the next few years. When did I ever say grind? GW2 throws gold at players by simply playing the game. As for main story, have your friends completed their core personal stories?
  4. Yes please. Then that is what that community should advocate for, rather than OWPvP. From what I see in the PvP forum, players are frustrated with the state of the format. That Anet hasn't appeared to really address those concerns should tell us all how much stock they put in to PvP. Putting PvP in open world wouldn't make things any better, in my opinion, as Anet would probably show as much attention to it there as they do in its current format.

  6. Well, that's your opinion and you're guaranteed to get enough PvE maps regardless... but maybe try to think outside the boundaries of GW2 and hope for something new and exciting too. PvP exists in structured and world v world, but it would be nice to have - as part of the xpac - an open world-type map like Fort Aspenwood of old. Imagine a map, where there's 2 opposing factions vying for control. I'm not saying, take a PvE map and make it PvP, I'm saying, when they're creating new maps, they shouldn't be restricted to more of the same we already got. They should challenge themselves and try to add something that can be a fusion of PvE and WvW/PvP. Drizzlewood Coast is a semi-WvW map although there's only scripted PvE meta and NPCs on the opposing faction. If they're going for new types of horizontal progression; then 2 factions tied to PvE groupings (e.g. Luxon and Kurzick again, or something entirely new, depending on what we're going to see in Cantha 250+ years later). If Anet believes there is enough demand for a new map like you suggest, then I would have no problem with it. My issue is asking for this content in a PvE environment when the modes for this type of gaming already exist in GW2. Could WvW and/or PvP use some extra attention? Perhaps. Only Anet has the metrics to make that determination.
  7. Exactly. If this playing style is so important to the OP and players like him/her, then they should be advocating for improvements in the current PvP format rather than shoving a square peg in a round hole by forcing PvP into PvE.

  10. Unless people decide to "switch on" and fight each other on top of nodes or other interactable things in the Open World, thus getting in other players' way. It is just simpler to keep this kind of combat in the game mode that is already designed for it.
  11. WvW is not empty. WvW is the place for open world PvP. So there is no need to implement it because it is already there. I play wvw 3 - 4 haours eveyday and sometimes i only see like 4 People... If Thats not dead... If there's no one to fight in WvW, then there will not be anyone to fight in an OWPvP setup either, unless players are really looking to gank OW players. Maybe WvW content isn't as popular as some like to think? /shrug
  12. We ask the same question every time this topic comes up. I really wish people would use the forums search function (sigh)
  13. Following this logic, expansion already exists, we don't need another one. :) No, that's not following logic at all. Expansions are additional content. The OP is asking for content that already exists. Open world PvP doesn't exists. While Expansions already do :+1: But PvP does exist. I said that earlier. I don't understand why you're arguing this with me.
  14. Or, it could be based on experience in other games that have open world PvP. I know that is true for me. I hated it elsewhere and am glad that GW2 has it's own mode for it.
  15. I admit to being one of those PvE players who obtained a warclaw and then never returned to WvW. It's not a game mode that I enjoy. Why did I bother with getting the warclaw? Because I wanted it to complete the "set" of mounts. /shrug

  17. Have you asked this question in the Guardian forum? https://en-forum.guildwars2.com/categories/guardian it might get more traction from players who play that class.
  18. For whatever it's worth, I am able to sell things to the TP a lot faster than in the past 6-8 months. If low-res TP means being able to sell my gak faster, then I would prefer it. ;)
