Infinite Forge has its place on power builds when a given Boss phase give you nothing to attack. Most of the top builds are very hybridised which require a static golem to get the displayed DPS. While the best Virtuosos specialise more for a given scenario.

Your best bet is to trait Signet of Inspiration and use both Wells and Mantras to heal. You can heal raids with just Wells but Mantra of Pain spam has become a thing so that is also a good healing option. Mesmer does not have a truly good Heal specs which can be promoted rather it's entire kit is very situational. This leads only a few who can truly use in a support setting. Alacrity Mirage and Quickness Chronomancer are the closest to a well established Build, hense them being much more viable options.

People make the same claim about Mesmer so be careful what you wish for. Theif could end up in the Mirage situation where everyone wants it to stay nerfed while most Theif players leave the game or change profession due to the nerfs.

I don't think I have ever seen a theif use their portal for anything other than sneaking people into WvW keeps after they have been flipped. Most portal gameplay is from Mesmer.

That is only really true for PVP. In PvE Mesmer is great, just did a Raid and most people brought a Mirage or Virtuoso.

I don't see it much in sPvP (like most elites) but I regularly see it in WvW running into Zergs and downing people. I don't know maybe it's just my experience, what do others think?

Yeah, it seems that way. It's pretty much the wild west, the moderators can't keep up.
