yah u mean like the spaghetti code that they put in themselves, which they then use as an excuse to justify why nothing can be done, improved or added to the game. Thats my favorite

Refactoring code is less important than working on some random game that will never see the light of day.

Yeah. They are all clearly totally incompetent. It's really bizarre that they have created such a good game that we, and presumably you (at least at some point), enjoy playing?

    Inconceivable!

Oddly defensive reply. This is a publically traded  company, not your family.

More likely they do it for story completion and achievements.  IBS was fine until "Champions" and DRMs.  The reason they switched to that low-effort format was because they diverted resources to development for EoD.  The players wanted an expansion.  The problem is they wanted an expansion + quality story content like we saw with PoF + LS4.  Instead what we got was IBS dropped on its head and a rushed expansion with EoD.

    HoT was rushed.

    Every LS ep was rushed

    PoF was rushed

    Every LS ep was rushed

    EoD was rushed

    Gyala delve was rushed

    SotO was rushed

What exactly does Anet do at work?

Do they work on random things for months then randomly remember "OH YEAH WE NEED TO GET A GW2 UPDATE/EXPAC OUT ASAP!" ?

Our current team size is roughly what it was during the development of Living World Season 4 and about 15% larger than it was at the release of End of Dragons in 2022

Team size doesn't matter if leadership is bad, which has been the case all of GW2's life span. Also too many cooks in the kitchen.

I've seen indie games with 2 devs consistently create faster and meatier content updates than Anet.

    Yeah, no.
Not that MMORPG genre is too competitive, nothing has changed much in the last decade, but XIV is a great game, critically acclaimed and well directed, all things we cannot say about Guild Wars 2 for example.

    Again no.
And is not trying to copy anything from XIV.

For that you would need to introduce characters and develop them for a decade, Guild Wars 2 just moves on with it's story, no character has gotten development at all since Aurene and i doubt something like that will happen again. "Hello Eparch, Bye Eparch". 3 months lasted the big baddie.

You all confusing filler with lacking content.
Last patch added half a map.

Third of a map really. 3 patches, 1 overworld map, in 3 splits.
Thats no filler, thats Anet not being able to deliver a minimum of a single whole open world map per patch.

Thats why you have to "go and do events" at every step of the storyline, because there is nothing more there anyways, a third of a map, let that sink in.
And people wants more instanced content? lol.

FF14 is the worst MMO I've ever played.

Ive never been able to get past the low level content in order to get to what people tell me is FFXIV's, "good parts." It remains some of the worst gaming experience Ive had, on par with SotO.

    Spoiler: It never gets good.

4 bosses, 1 ult boss randomly that 1 mistake wastes 20m of your life, 2 kitten easy dungeons and a useless 24 man.

Thats the entire game, since 2.0(besides the ult boss).

Classes and crafting gets easier and more braindead every expac.

Zero innovation, zero creativity, same sterile formula FOREVER.

Yoshi-P and his team are uncreative robots.

Don't let catgirl modders(the only people who play that game long term) overhype the game to you. Ignore them.

Guild Wars 2 in maintenance mode must be the most funny stuff i`ve read all day.

On the other hand, people talking smack about XIV is not understanding the huge diference in resources between Anet and SE. Nor the design choices or focus of both projects.
FFXIV doesn't have any filler, is just its deep narrative that demands a dense text exposition which is for any JAPANESE RPG quite the norm, also because of it's infrastructure and network XIV works focused on instanced content, the exact opposite of GW2 where the focus is in open world content for the most part.

    FF14 is a terrible game.

I'd still prefer Anet to invest less into voice acting the entire game in 25 different languages and instead focus more on good replayable content..
Maybe I'm alone here idk but I think the quality of the story and dialogues has dropped off significantly essentially after the base game. HoT was ok imo and mainly stood out with its great metas, which are actively played to this day (only downside were the abysmal maps) and gliding, which was a very welcome feature and the introduction of the horizontal progression.

But with PoF and LS4 started the downfall, stalled a bit with EoD, which was... okay-ish but really picked up speed again with SotO.
In general Amnytas is a really cool map but just essentially copy-pasting the bastions 6 times (which are themselves copy-paste of the awful-to-navigate wizard's tower) is pretty meh.. Initially I thought Nayos is pretty cool but the more I've been playing on that map the more I dislike it.

What I really hate about the newer GW2 maps is also that the team seemingly tries to adjust for mounts, which in theory is pretty good but I think it's pretty badly executed since you are just making the maps more difficult to navigate and considering the Skyscale has such a limited height and resetting while flying is pretty cumbersome makes everything put together just a more kitten and annoying version of just running around on foot in older maps.
Why even have a dragon if I have to cling on a wall and reset my endurance several times to get up normal walls in the new maps? Doesn't make sense to me..

Idk, to me most of the fun of having mounts was because it felt better to get around. And now you basically have to have a fully trained dragon just to get around semi-unhindered.

Mounts have no place in MMOs umless they are very limited(FFXI 75 era).

They advertise and brag about their voice actors on social media, lol.

They have no interest in adding fun rewarding replayable content, the last we got was drizzlewood....

I'm sorry if this is the wrong section.
I originally had a great tempest staff build before the recent patches for pve.
Now I am not sure - but I went through a lot of trouble to make Nevermore specifically for my ele.
Are there any decent pve builds that use staff? It doesn't have to be "meta" - I don't plan to do raids/fractals with it.

Necro staff is everything you'd ever want from Ele staff and much more.

    Nope.

Can't have sidegrade/horizontal content that requires any actual grind because the player base can't handle it(See: Masteries during HOT).

Can't have cosmetic grinds because this game is Buy to play and the best cosmetics go into gacha boxes and the cash shop.

Can't have gear grinds because they advertised this game as no gear grinds.

Anet has backed themselves into a corner and created a game that has no reason to be played.

Since day one catalyst i was wondering why is there energy , feels like a useless placeholder to prove they have worked on the class ,  i know when the sphere had a 5 sec cd it was understandable  , with the nerf  to 15 they should have removed energy ? naaaahhhh.

It's for PvP / WvW, which, hilariously, is the one form of content where I have infinite energy and don't even manage it.

It's a complete failure of a game mechanic.

As long as CmC is responsible for the elementalist, this class is doomed in PvE. Everything he designed is over complicated without any reward for the increased effort, the catalyst UI is abhorrent, the hammer is no longer used, the pistol is now obligatory as a condie weapon due to trait nerf and it also has very slow ramp time. The quickness catalyst has tight boon uptime, can't generate energy passively (druid on the other hand can) and herald just dumps quickness while literally being afk. The alacrity tempest needs to complete long channels, every single build is pretty much melee. We desperately need a new designer.

Also to add some statistics. There are currently 3! qcata logs up on wingman in olc cm for the last 2 patches combined. 1718 logs uploaded.
There wasn't a boon build as dominant as herald since old chrono days. Even when fb was strong there were still plenty of other specs. Now even the 3 logs with a qcata in them have all qherald as the 2nd quick option.

And if you ask reddit this is the best balance we had ever.... If you ignore herald, slb and cvirtu maybe.

    Working as intended.

Elementalist is more effort, same or less reward.

That is the design philosophy behind the class. Once you understand that, you'll be a happier player. Quit Ele until it's 0% play rate.

  10. It's so funny how Anet fell for the same trap every other modern MMO dev has fallen for.

Two difficulties, one for the 1% of players who are completely incapable of playing the game, and another for the 1% of players who extremely good at the game.

The other 98% of people get nothing!

For me, every change the Dev's make of late seem to say, "we don't want you as a customer". They seem to want a high churn of new players in and the OG players out. Especially as a WvW player and someone with multiple accounts ranging from 18k-32k AP. Now after 12 years they want to destroy our worlds and changed the rules on using multiple accounts.

    They want OG players out.

This is exactly how I've felt since EoD.

I've never seen devs just go "No, we'd rather you didn't play our game" until EoD in GW2.

At the end of the day,  some people like SOTO, others don't (like with previous expansions), but if you're so determined only one structure will work I'd be looking at a different game.

The game is the worst state it's  been in since LS1. The state is just as bad as LS1.

Thank the 3 leviathans who single handedly keep the game afloat through Black lion chest gambling.

Everyone seems to be blaming the latest expansion for the "passion is gone".

If SotO was a living story instead of an expansion would it change anything about "passion is gone". People playing blame game or something right now.

If you dislike SotO, it being a LS or expansion your going to feel the same way about it regardless, the OP is saying "passion is gone" and everyone is talking about SotO its not a legit expansion and so on. Thats not the issue, the OP is saying "passion is gone". Not that they gotta pay $25 and it was rushed and so on. Thats the content GW2 has so far, and "the passion is gone".

    Could there be other factors?

    EoD was trash, too.

The games been terrible for a while. Drizzlewood is still the last farm map we've gotten.

Am I the only one that would like the Initiative to go away completely or at least have a revamp. Lessen the cost of Initiative or increase what we have. Thief seems stilted. It made sense at the start of  but now it appears to be more cumbersome than it really should be.

    Might be the only one.

Initiative is why I will never play thief in PvE. It makes it extremely boring.

PvP only class, when PvP is completely abandoned(WvW too).

    Really weird.

Crazy that people are still in denial about GW2 being in significantly reduced resource use mode after seeing Gyala and SotO.

SotO has the worst metas since Core.

The expansion released, then had a fractal event while fractals were so bugged they were completely non-funcitonal (CMs), and it still went unfixed for weeks.

All of SotO's metas are unfun and extremely unrewarding unless you need legendary armor.

Rifts are the worst content in GW2, period. Up there with trash like crab toss and southsun survival.

Afking for pips in WvW is more fun than doing the metas or Rifts for legendary armor.

The first update added basically nothing to work towards or do, in an already weak expansion with nothing to do and no rewards.
