  1. Rapid fire is annoying at best, sure a full volley will kill a player, and especially if you get +1 by a pewpew ranger from 1800 range, but so will most other burst specs unless you play something with either mass evasion or passive/active defenses = anything meta rly.
  2. Spellbreaker: tons of cc and defenceHerald: great engage and ridic unblockable burst (also brings boons)Scourge: AoE denial and corrupt (also brings barriers)FB: heal/boonbot (booons)Thief: Unrivaled Mobility Thats probably the most common/successful lineup atm... I think mesmer is falling off in pvp because of less teamutility (not enough fancy boons), less mobility than teef and less bulk and cc than warrior. If the meta stopped farting out boons with every move a mesmer would probably be more welcome, because they DO got great burst potential, they ARE slipperly, they ARE quite mobile and they ARE disruptive. Problems with flat out buffing mesmer is that they are still topdogs in:WvW Roaming + always got room for 1-3 in Zergs.PvE (power/condi/utility)PvP in lower brackets Back in the days it was said that a thief was the bane of a mesmers existance, and i dont think Anet is too fond of giving mesmers more "mobility/utility" so they can replace thieves in that department. (thieves already have a hardtime outside of playing a racing car between uncontested nodes) They already took a dump on Mesmers in the boongame (not specifically PvP but still), so i dont think thats coming back anytime soon... Lastly i dont think they want to bulk up a mesmers defence, cc or burst because less reactive players might die of low self-esteem.. .
  3. Daredevil = Best mobility in game, insanely evasive and got good cleave/aoe damage.Deadeye = Best single target damage in game, after rune/sigil rework it beats even Weavers (that can hit big target multiple times with same abilities). Weaver sitting on about 38k dmg vs big targets, Deadeyes sits slightly above 40k dmg against small (and big) targets.Core thief = good in PvP/WvW with sword + dagger, it makes them great duelists with alot of in-out fighting and boonrips(+boonsteal), unblockable damage and good evasion. Id say thieves are in a good spot right now, being best at both damage in PvE (deadeye), Best mobility ingame (Daredevil) and are good duelists with either build (core probably stronger in straight up duels)
  4. Just as a thief, mesmer, ranger will dance all around and using stealth/mobility to kill you, you need to use your mobility and line of sight and the likes to outwit them. Most Deadeyes, Rangers and Mesmers will kill you by keeping their distance and having a wide array of abilities you cant play around too well. Like unblockable attacks and greater mobility, stealth etc. Dont bother chasing them, make them greedy for you by taking a punch or two and run the other way, once their mobility actives are down you can turn and smack them. They win the game by playing on their toes and abusing their ability to fight on their terms. You win the game by managing to fight them in melee which is your home turf.
  5. Warrior = excatly what you want if you want to skip all magic fluff with sword and use brutal strength.Guardian = Like warrior but with blue shiny fluff.Revenant = Like Guardian but with black shiny fluff and "assassinish" animations.Mesmer = Weird pink and butterflyish fluff.Engineer = Steamy fluffElementalist = fancy elemental fluffThief = slipperly fluff
  6. Thieves doesnt ruin WvW more than firebrand/scourge meta :p Thieves might beat some professions 1v1, but they cant do much more than that. They are fast and bursty, thats it. Firebrand/Scourge is 90% of the WvW community and just makes things REALLY boring. Worthless in 1v1 but dominates any XvX. All they do is cluttering the closest kilometers with red circles of dullness while chugging boons.
  7. i fail to se how a post from 2012 is gonna prova a point. Unless you play Daredevil you still got 2 dodges just like anyone, same health as an elementalist (lowest ingame) and almost only ACTIVE defensive abilities. Alot of professions right now gets carried by a bunch of passive lifesavers in their builds. Allowing for way more mistakes and missplays to be had. Ofcourse a player that´s used to be able to missplay and come out alive will get completely dumped on when playing a thief, and probably get dumped on by thief players. Most likely because adapting to a reactive playstyle instead of a proactive playstyle. Keep in mind, i am by no means deffending riflethief.Just the (relatively)viable and (relatively)fair other thiefbuilds out there. A Proactive player will most of the times beat a Reactive player. The thief class needs you to play a Proactive playstyle due to few/none passive lifesavers.Alot of other classes does fine playing a reactive playstyle. Thieves Defense is based on being proactive, making use of positioning and timing. Thieves kits relies on you adapting to the playstyle. You dont have a bunch of invulns, blocks, aegis, resistances etc. You got evades and mobility. It is harder to time a dodge than channeling a block for 2 seconds.Moving away from the damage has its upsides just as tunneling through it with buildt in defense. Both has its uses in different situations.
  8. I dont mean to be that guy.But thieves are high risk & high reward.Except for riflecamping deadeye. And riflecamping deadeye is easy enough to run away from. Just dont bother fighting them. Its a cheesebuild which forces you to dodge/pop utilities/passives and just "slowly" withers you down.I say slowly because rifle animations are not that fast, especially from range, so you have plenty of time reacting to it. The damage is completely fine, but having permanent stealth is not.Permastealth is so easily achieved and turns so many situations to : You try to kill the little pest, which eitherA ) Ran away to fight another day, probably in permstealth so u cant tell.B ) Bores / annoys you to death by popping in and out of stealth after a bunch of failed "assassination" attempts until he kills you since u lost interest long ago to play hide and seek. You get nuked or just dont wanna fightA ) And the little turd chases after you in stealth, so you have to worry about wheter you are safe or not, and probably jumps u 20min later when ur afk / tabbed out or something or engaged in another fight.B ) Pop some mobility actives and give the littleman your ugly finger. Id suggest you stick to alternative "2 B" until they fix stealth on dodge. Killing people with boredom/annoyance shouldnt be a thing really. The damage is ok though, wouldnt change that. Oh and a note, Malicious Backstab shouldnt get touched neither. If Anet takes a dump on rifledodge there is no need. Also if the thief goes into melee with that kind of a glassy build, sneezing on him/her is enough to have him/her running back from camp.
