  1. They can set EOTM up as a weeklong WVW event, kinda like super golem, no down state, etc. All they have to do is figure a way to award pips in the map. They don't have to develop any other features, just pips. The pip amount doesn't even have to be as lucrative as regular wvw, just give pips. It'll probably their most popular wvw event, attended by pve casuals and FTPs with multiple instances going at the same time.
  2. Anet should make EOTM a week long event, at least, once per matchup, complete with pips and, perhaps, special drops. It'll be a great way to involve/introduce the heavy-pve population to wvw. I'm curious if there are any devs left in the roster who remember how busy EOTM was before pips. Those were great times.
  3. Kinda happens a few times a day already, mostly in defending objectives, other times when someone pings a low tier tower/keep in /t as a target.
  4. In NA, getting rid of T4 will prolly solve some pop problems though coverage may still be an issue.
  5. ESO has something like this it seems. I don't play ESO, so I don't know the details, but it has something to do with signing up for a campaign by picking an alliance, but you can be a guest at another campaign anytime you feel like it. I believe that there's a time limit for each campaign, so once time runs out, you get to sign up for a new one. I don't keep up with ESO at all, so I don't know if there are any pop balance issues.
  6. DAOC has something like this. They're called relics. Each side has 2 and if opposing realms capture your relic(s), they get a bonus on damage, heals, or both in rvr and pve. Since, capturing/losing relics has consequences, relic raids are often epic. From what I recall, there are two parts. (1) Sieging structures / taking relic -- we're all familiar w/ this. It's just breaking down walls/gates. (2) Running the relic back to your keep -- this can be epic too. You're gonna need a full zerg as escort. Of course, they'll need a full zerg to take it from you while on the run. So if the carrier dies, anything can happen. With regards to the OP's proposal, I'd like to add something else when successfully placing crystal in your keep, something of consequence other than points as we go through the trouble of raiding crystals. Perhaps a timed buff for more gold. Or a buff that gives you a chance for a special drop on kills, like the boss chest from the special world boss run events. I'm not much of a PVE player, but I believe that extending this buff to PVE may also invite more PVE players to WVW since PVE'ers will have something to gain. Or at the very least, PVE'ers will know that something in WVW can affect them in PVE. Lastly, I like this idea. I hope it reaches a WVW dev looking to enhance the game mode.
  7. Or don't call it a tournament, but let's have competitive WvW event every relink weekend. Why? To breathe life back into a slowly dying game mode (as this forum describes it). Why relink weekend? To avoid stacking and only for that weekend to avoid burnout. THE PROPOSAL: A Weekend-long Tournament Style WVW Event REWARDS: Pip Buff +3 pips - 1st place, +2 - 2nd, +1 - last Each player who meets the EVENT PARTICIPATION CREDIT (see below) shall receive a pip buff. Pip Buff duration shall be 168 hours (7 days) after the event and resets to 0 for the next relink. While it's active, the pip buff is added on top of War Score, WvW Rank, Commander Bonus, Commitment and Outnumbered criteria for pip calculation. The intent is to achieve max WvW skirmish claim tickets faster (not more tickets/week). And to speed up receiving of any other pip-based rewards after first completion. Buff timer shall be on pause during offline and non-WvW map. This gives players with limited WvW time to take advantage of their reward, up to next relink which is a period of 2 months or so. A by-product of pip buffs is that it will keep players in WvW AFTER the event, even casuals, because playing WvW is the only way they can redeem their rewards. New transfer pip hold still applies, but new transfers will still get their pip buffs according to their server placement and if they meet the EVENT PARTICIPATION CREDIT. While the hold is on, new transfers can just pvp, pve, or remain offline till they can get pips again. If a player transfers AFTER the event, they'll carry with them the buff that they've won, subject to transfer hold limits. REWARD: Loots Anything not ordinarily dropping in WvW, such as Bonus Box of Goods from World Boss events, including infusions and invisible footwear. Others to consider are drops from the Meta-Event Rush. Just anything extra as long as it is dropped from player kills and tower/keep/camp lords and guards. TIME OF EVENT From reset of relink until same time Sunday. So in PST 7pm Friday - 7pm Sunday. TRANSFERS To avoid stacking, no transfer will be allowed 24 hours before reset till end of event (i.e. transfer allowed again 7:01 pm Sunday). EVENT PARTICIPATION CREDIT To receive pip buff reward, a player shall have a minimum accumulated 2 hours in a WVW map and/or EOTM at Tier 3 Reward Track participation. Accumulated 2 hours does not require 2 hours at one time. Too many factors prevent a player from participating in a straight 2 hour campaign such as real life concerns, disconnects, long ques, etc. Give players the ability to add up their time, so long as it's Tier 3 participation. And 2 hours is the length of a skirmish, a small fraction of a weekend. Hence a player is only required to at least participate in an equivalent of a skirmish at Tier 3 to receive participation credit. Edge of the Mists requires a specific mention because, face it, there will be ques all weekend long. Most likely, players waiting in que will end up here. And 3+ hour waits are not unusual, as recently experienced during warclaw's rollout. If players' times are limited (1 hour here, 30 minutes there, etc.) and all they can do is EOTM, then they deserve reward buffs. Remember that winning in EOTM gives extra supplies. And those will be valuable. VARIATIONS Extra considerations for the event proposal: Pip buffs can be rewarded at +2, +1, +0, more draconian and downright mean, but 1st & 2nd places won't care. Buff timer can be longer or shorter than 168 hours, whatever is deemed reasonable. Loot drops can remain as is. The increase in activities means players get more of what's already available. That's fun by itself. Participation credit can be more forgiving, such as count them at tier 1 instead of tier 3 (which is the current pip standard). 2 hours suggested above is from the current length of a skirmish. Maybe use a different number. Update and give WvW Tournament Rewards. I've never been in a WvW tournament, so no comment here. Transfers allowed up until a minimum prep time before reset. This assumes that there is a minimum prep time that is less than 24 hours before relinks happen so that proper match ups are achieved. So, if minimum prep time is only 1 hour, then allow server transfers 1 hour before reset. Again, this is done to avoid stacking. Randomize server colors every week or relinks. Currently, presumptive 1st place, deemed the strongest server in a matchup, is always green, then blue, then red respectively. This setup is already stale with the red map unanimously considered to be the hardest to defend. What if server colors are randomized to red/green/blue or green/red/blue or other threesome combo. This means that sometimes, the presumptive 1st place will have to defend the hardest map... Just something to think about. SUMMARY Let's have a fun, competitive weekend WvW event every relink. New partners, new friends. Reward our efforts with extra pip buffs so that after the event, we can max out our weekly WvW skirmish claim tickets faster. Which in turn, will also attract WvW casuals to increase overall participation for days to weeks after the event. And hopefully, during the event, we get a chance for rare drops. And it's only a weekend, so no burnout.
  8. Just randomize the borderland assignments with the server rankings each reset so that 1st rank is not perpetually green, 2nd blue, and 3rd red respectively. This way, rank 1's can be red sometimes and be pushed to defend what many believe to be the most difficult borderland to protect (but probably the easiest EB territory). Plus, the game won't feel stale.
  9. Make it a weekend (7pm pst Fri, reset - 7pm pst Sun). Once per new links. Announce it ahead of time. I've never experienced wvw tourney, but I can understand the burnout. Some players described the experience to me as a 2nd job. Sounds awful. That's why keep it as a weekend event. Week long might be too much. Also, incorporate eotm by doubling supplies to winners of matches. Maybe even figure out pips and/or reward participation for those who only played eotm during the tourney. I'm in BG, so I can see slow-moving ques happening. But I'd like some sort of tourney in wvw to happen.
