Tempest should never be meta in it's current design

The current meta Harbinger isn't using Soul Reaping due to the combination of Curses/Death Magic.

 

It's currently focused on targeting boons over pure practicality. Against Support Guardian you just have to land 1 hit of Shroud 2 to corrupt 2 boons, while Tempest would just block Shroud 2 entirely with Mag Aura.

 

Perhaps it might shift to using Soul Reaping to counter Tempest, but Tempest currently has the upper hand overall in the meta.

 

(Death Magic pulses Protection/reduces incoming condition damage. Curses provides corrupt/transfer/weakness.)

 

You'd drop Curses for Soul Reaping to keep the defenses from Death Magic. (Which is an overall damage loss.)

Arguably Guardian is much more degenerate due to ALL of its major supportive skills that make it viable are instant casts with zero counterplay. Tempest is gross in its own way too as mentioned above, but requires a lot more positioning compared to the other.

 

Both Support Guard and Tempest are incredibly unhealthy at this point and need tuned down. (Mag/Shocking needs reduced to 3s/Magnetic Shield needs its aura reduced to 3s while also adjusting damage/CDs. It's been meta for too long at this point and is justifying not improving other parts of Elementalist. It's as creative as Nades on Holosmith).

earth you condi pressure them which will force the tempest to disengage to cleanse. any overload is easily interruptable, mag aura spam you go melee (and no, no one playing seriously is taking earth shield and aftershock). no team in MATs is taking tempest cuz of how easy it is to burst down outside of earth. shock aura spam is degen tho
