-usecoherent and -dx9 no longer working with patch? [Merged]

I saw many threads pop up with people saying they were having the same issue around that time (it was earlier in the year iirc? my memory isn't great) and afaik no one found a solution to it.

I saw those threads too and I don't recall any screenshots of it either.  It's difficult for readers to try to find a solution or a potential workaround for something that isn't well understood.  That's why a lot of people were saying it's the post-processing setting (which the DX11 change also causes some weirdness with) when it looks like for users like etienne it's clearly something else.

for me it makes me nauseous to look at for more than a few minutes....kind of like watching a video some one took of a movie  (the pirated type with the person doing video on their phone) and then a copy made of that and another copy made of that copy and then some where along the way the stepping got just a little off so its hard to watch--kind of like 'shaky-cam'. The colors are wrong, the images are blurry and the fonts not readable...I tried to go into battle and could not even find the mouse pointer!!

And buying a new computer is not an option for many (not for me by any means), so just telling us to go ---- well, means there will be a bit less $$ in their coffers. This is something they have known about for months and yet they have done nothing (the solution was not theirs even). Guess I will go tell 2 friends ....

I've reported on the Chromium issue back in April:

It got ignored. Anet even made a post about how Chromium was working without any problems (NOT!) However -usecoherent made the game run silky smooth. Now Anet stealth removed the "fix".

I hope Anet picks it up this time and works together with Intel to fix this issue.

It has something to do with Intel Arc emulating Dx11 into Dx12. While the embedded Chromium framework runs in OpenGL (Which also isn't supported by Intel Arc and needs to be emulated). Anet might actually be wrapping Chromium into Vulkan seeing how there's a vulkan dll file in the directory. So we're emulating one thing has another thing embedded that is being wrapped and/or needs another method of emulation.

Oh my god, I think the last time I used 4 GB RAM was about 20 years ago. You can't expect to run a game today with such an old machine.

You'd be surprised at what games still function with that amount of memory.

For anyone who followed the Running Guild Wars 2 With DX11 On macOS Using Wine document, it looks like there's a workaround for -usecoherent no longer working that allows us to keep using DXVK! (See the section "Tweaking Config".)

Need to test it a bit more later, but it seems to work for me!

We may live to play another day!

Edit: lol - why would someone think my update is sad? This is good news! :classic_laugh:

Yea, I figured, but the removal was bad/buggy because a command line option should never really be crashing your application.  Like "oops"?  Someone forgot?

to put this bluntly, they weren't going to leave coherent in the game. it has caused major issues, especially on linux where its taints the game with 32-bit code, and it hasn't been updated in years and is stacking up security vulnerabilities like no tomorrow.

i'm also not sure what you mean about intel arc not supporting opengl, as all graphics cards still accelerate it fully. the opengl peformance is about half of directx on arc however it is still thousands of times faster than what is required for a web browser as 2d acceleration has virtually no impact on your graphics card unless its an entry-level card from like 2010, and probably not even then (outside of webgl and video decoding).

the players encountering this issue are dealing with a bug in the implementation, most likely a race condition.

Removing modules that working perfectly for everyone and not related to the OS you use is beyond me and make no sense. Moreover, forcing DX11 that have known full screen and v-synch unresolved bugs without fixing the issues before is not a very smart move.

Now i'm forced to play in borderless full screen because DX11 full screen do not work anymore with tearing on the screen because v.synch do not work even if i enable it in the options. Is years that there is this bug, never resolved and now we have to play the game with it orcompletely change OS.

The Intel ARC gpu, afaik, is relatively new and designed for DX12.  It's an Intel driver issue with regards to how that card has backwards compatible support for older rendering APIs.  It's DX9 support is handled through a translation layer.  Not sure about DX11 or OpenGL.

Anet should simply disable the gemstore when you're using -usecoherent. That way the security risks are eliminated. At least until they fix the Intel Arc emulation performance issues with Intel. Pretending like everything is fine and sneakily removing the workaround is not very nice. Also: why can't we use the gemstore from outside of the game?

The last update made the game crashed if i used dx9 mode, I still used Dx9 mode because DX11 is like super blooomy and it is stuttry too, i made that post like 5 months ago. I think i made the right choice because 5 months later Dx11 still felt buggy today i even saw a screen tear which i hadn't yet but i saw it on youtube before. Could you fixed Dx11 before you tried to forced me to used it or made Dx9 work again please

Thank you

Let me grab my error log from TODAY using the Microsoft Certified video card driver.

i have also been struck by the dreadful brightness since the dx9 work around was stopped. Today i 'repaired' the client and turn the gamma to 1.21. Made sure post processing and Light Adaption were both off - had a small fiddle with the Monitor bright setting and at least now i can see the faces of my characters on chara select screen, the items in my bag without blinding me, and can read how many batteries i am carrying . It i still too bright - but much better. Hopefully anet will pity us enough to permanently  fix this abomination. What i dont understand is why only some players are having this problem

Is your monitor capable of HDR and do you have Windows AutoHDR on?  I'm curious as to why only some players have the issue too.

No.  The game no longer supports DX9.  I guess you won't be playing Hearts of Iron 4 either, since that game also recently completed a transition from DX9 to DX11 a year ago.  More devs are going to be moving in that direction since DX9 support is being dropped by many other vendors.

The reason why people want dx9 back is that the game does not work with dx11. Other games works with dx11 perfectly.
