Clarification on a line in the patch notes?

Recommended Posts

@Fueki.4753 I agree, however it doesn't explain what the value is that they're going to be using for those calculations.  If you go look at weapon strengths on the wiki there's not "one weapon strength", there are a ton based on rarity, some with variances.  So what value are we pulling from that table, if that's even the right place to be looking?

My best guess is they are going to use the same rarity and level as your right hand weapon, just applied to a hammer.

On a level 80 exotic Hammer, that'd be 985 to 1111.

I can explain this in more detail to help clarify what it means and why it works this way:: Essentially every skill in the game has a weapon strength value that's used in the damage calculation. For most skills, it's pretty straightforward: Rifle skills use rifle weapon strength, for example.

However, for some profession skills (like certain f1-f5 skills) they would just use the weapon strength of whatever weapon was equipped at the time. If you had a staff equipped, your profession skill would use staff weapon strength, but if you had an axe equipped it would use the axe weapon strength, which is lower.

We made the change so that these cases would use a consistent value for weapon strength instead of dealing a different amount of damage depending on your equipped weapon.

Is that value going to be tied to the rarity of your mainhand weapon?

That still doesn't quite answer the question. It's a hammer's weapon strength, but is that exotic, ascended, or something else? You couldn't just say "985-1111"?

It's gear dependant. It wouldn't make sense for your Warrior's F1 to scale to exotic damage while you're wearing an ascended weapon, and vice versa. It isn't a singular value.

Mesmer phantasm weapon strength values don't scale with the rarity of the weapon they're created from, so there's precedence for it being a singular value. It's a fair question to ask
