Skipped Staff Proficiency now can't select it

Recommended Posts

When selecting how to spend my Hero Points, I've skipped Staff Proficiency by mistake and selected what's just next to it (Celestial Being). Now I can't select it anymore and I'm clueless about how to fix this issue. I mean, I don't think it's something I won't be able to select anymore...

Here's the link to a picture that should explain it a bit better:

So, to be able to select it I just need to get the expansion?

Think u already have HoT expansion... That's why druid specialization is available. Druid specialization traits selected for a character enables them to wield staff.... For core Ranger and soulbeast and untamed to wield staff, I believe, u have to own Soto expansion and do some 5 mins of story and talk to a NPC named frode to unlock that feature

You do have Staff Proficiency enabled. I just checked on my own Druid, and the icon is colored the exact same way. It just happens to be grey. (edit: Actually, it seems all elite spec weapon proficiency icons are colored the same way.) There's no way to skip it, or any other trait if you're training an elite spec, so you don't have to worry about that!

If you don't have SoTO, as detailed by Crystal Paladin just above, then make certain Druid is selected as your third traitline. Without that, you cannot wield a staff.

FWIW, while the others have covered that it is unlocked and how you can equip and use a staff, thought I'd add some info on what likely happened.

If you have enough hero points, you are able to select items further from the start of a skill/specialization track and unlock it along with any not-yet-unlocked ones before it. So when you selected Celestial Being, you also unlocked staff proficiency.

One thing I haven't seen mentioned which often catches people out: you won't be able to equip a staff until you select the Druid specialisation (or unlock weapon master training in SotO). Elite specs have to go in the bottom of the 3 specialisation slots, if you click either of the top ones you won't see it as an option but if you click the bottom one it will show up.

Basically, you haven't "skipped" anything. When unlocking elite specialisations it will unlock everything prior to the node you clicked, so if you had the full 250 hero points free you could just unlock the very end node immediately and it would also unlock all of the nodes before it. Don't worry, you have not missed or broken anything.

When using weapons that are not part of your professions core proficiencies you must have the appropriate trait line equipped to be able to use the weapon. On Ranger that is Druid for Staff, Untamed for Hammer, Soulbeast for Daggers. (See Elite Specialization section)

If you have the Secrets of the Obscure expansion there is an achievement you can unlock that allows you to use all of the elite specialisation weapons for your profession without the elite specialisation equipped, as if they were core weapons. (Weaponmaster Training)

There is also a further achievement that unlocks a brand new weapon for your class too, in the case of Ranger this is main and off-hand Mace. (Expanded Weapon Proficiency)

Hopefully this explains everything.
