I can't choose a class

Recommended Posts

I've been playing gw2 for over 5 years, I've always played WvW, a few months ago I abandoned WvW, I want to do all PvE content, especially the stories, but I can't decide which class to play 😴

I have all classes with all complete specializations. I like Thief but I'm afraid of it due to its low HP. Warrior I think is really cool but I miss the ranged damage. Ranger I like the long bow only. Engineer only for the Merch spec but it gets boring. I know I need to talk about the other classes, but I'm getting tired of looking for a "Main"

so don't pick one! 😄

i have over 30 characters now, and each time i log in i play a different one,

it keeps it fresh, going to the end of the character list to see which ones i haven't played in awhile and taking them out for the dailies! 🙂

also i get what your saying about thief having low HP,

but they're oddly one of the easiest classes to make immortal in PVE/Story thanks to having quite a few damage=healing things.

stack Signet of Malice, Invigorating Precision and Relic of Zakiros and thief becomes nigh unkillable! 😄

I was and still kinda am stuck in the same boat as you, but I will try to share the open-world experience. I will list the "godmode" builds I have found that can solo almost any event. My "test" run is always:

- Djinns in Crystal Desert (not dodging their attacks to test the DPS and survivability of the build)

- Hero Point near Eastwatch in Auric Basin, the "let's fly" guy, dodging only if low

- Doing the full event in Cantha's first zone, where you destroy Aetherblade cannons > follow the dude > kill the Champion that spawns (there is a bit of RNG here as there are several Champions)

- Soloing a Bounty

Mesmer:

https://guildjen.com/celestial-mirage-open-world-build/ - Mirage - Condition, this is a godmode build, all you do is dodge > 1 > 2 to create a clone (if you don't have them) > 3 and throw 5 and 4 for shits and giggles. You can solo almost all not supergroup events with this.

Necromancer:

https://guildjen.com/power-reaper-open-world-build/ - Reaper - Power, build is very simple to play, 3>2 Dagger > get Life Force > go shroud press 3 and 4 > aa > 4 > repeat (switch to GS if you want the cool sound effects of Gravedigger)

http://en.gw2skills.net/editor/?PSDBs+pjlNwAZcMNGJWMX9PVA-DSJYkRP%2FZkrUoDVgC%2FAEiAtHeNgYaDUB-e - Scourge - Condition, ultimate godmode build, LOTS of button pressing but no real coordination required, press F skills all the time, fill in whatever is available with weapon

Elementalist:

http://en.gw2skills.net/editor/?PGTAIlZwuYbMNGJOqOmRfA-DyIY1og%2FMKUCkrCQh3ACRg2Avltm2gKA-e - Catalyst - Condition, this takes a bit to learn, and the short version is press 3 on every weapon swap, Fire: 2>4>JS>5, Water: 2, Air: 2>JS if possible, Earth: 2>4>JS>5>Grand Finale - if you dislike Elementalist, that is fine

Engineer:

https://guildjen.com/celestial-mechanist-open-world-build/ - Mechanist - Condition, godmode once more (just use Mace/Pistol if you cba with Shortbow as it is better imho) - decent number of buttons to press (if you like that) and a very snappy playstyle, you press button stuff happens (I personally LOVE that feeling)

Ranger:

http://en.gw2skills.net/editor/?POwEkMNsMDWHTlxycxieqOeWy9mD-DSIYR0yfGBKFKUBIzbDBIgtwbR%2FRLA-e - Untamed - Power, this build is ridiculously strong, the self-sustain and damage is very good for anything open world throws at you

http://en.gw2skills.net/editor/?POzEUCNsMDWHTiFxOxS75+5ViUnD-DyIY1om%2FMCUKUoKQhvAChgqjP9Q40AipNAA-e - Soulbeast - Condition, very versatile and spammy build, but again, quite a few buttons to press, but can weasel itself out of any situation

Thief:

http://en.gw2skills.net/editor/?PawAgiVlZw+YHMJmJeUX3vOA-DyIY1ojvUyJCKLEiLBKsA85YQACXP8aAx0GoC-e - Deadeye - Condition, F1 and Spam 3 > refresh Initiative with Elite and Malice and reapply Mark

Warrior:

https://guildjen.com/celestial-berserker-open-world-build/ - Berserker - Celestial, lots of button presses, ridiculous burn damage

http://en.gw2skills.net/editor/?PKwAYdflRwuYNsFmJOyOntMA-DSIYRUzfGBqEKUGIzzCBQgi%2FsHagGBMaBA-e - Berserker - Power, the most APM-intensive build (with Staff as 2nd weapon to heal if needed), if you like high-APM stuff, this one is for you

Revenant:

Any Celestial Revenant build you can find is just amazing.

Guardian:

I dislike 'em

Bottom-line: all of these specs I have listed have completed all 4 of my "challenges", some with a bit of squeezing in the butt-area, but some have done so with ease. The most important thing is to play what YOU like, if it is Warhorn-ONLY Warrior and you love every second of it, congratulations, you are having more fun than most people who are meta-slaving their gametime.

Just to add to this, your best bet is to describe what kind of a playstyle do you want, what do you want your character to do and what NOT to do. What you like and dislike about playing the game and perhaps we can help steer you in the right direction.

I ended up choosing the Ranger, I looked at some builds, and tried out different weapons, the Dagger reminded me of the Thief, I was chilled with the choice. Thank you to everyone who took the time to help me.

I know I'm a little late to the party, but while all classes can solo PvE and yadda-yadda-yadda, if you are looking to move through the story line and just want a competent build that wont wipe repeatedly, check out Lord Hizen (he's got a channel on youtube). His builds are solid, with a focus on PvE champs and soloing and the like; complete with videos explaining his choices and rotations; great info you can build on.
My DE is Hizen's build, and she's a complete powerhouse that's the first time I've ever had any real fun in OW as a thief 😄
