Windows 10 May 18 update won't let game run

I just installed the latest Windows 10 "feature update" (insert roll eyes here) last night and now GW2 won't load. I can get into the login screen and launch the game. Then the screen blinks 2-3 times, I get the window where character selection is made but no characters pop up, and then it just cancels out. Anyone else have this issue, or know how to fix it? I ran GW2 in repair mode, no change.

Reinstal the game, clear the appdata gw2 folder.

That simpton is only for Gw2?

I uninstalled and reinstalled - I get the same issue. I know it's not a GW2 thing - it worked just fine before the Windows update, but of course Microsoft is nearly impossible to contact so I was hoping there might be way around this on the game side.

Oh, and I only have one game on my PC... :-) Just GW2. So I'm not sure if it impacts others.

Some have had success with the -windowed Command Line Argument. (See Wiki [link above] for instructions.)Also, you can try disabling any 3rd-party programs - Discord, GPU programs, etc.

Thanks for the replies - I updated my video card driver (Nvidia GeForce1080) and had it re-recognize the game, and it seems to work now.

Usually, if the screen is blinking... That should be your first option... Especially just after an OS update.

On an AMD card I've had the symptom of the game loading but the window not appearing, no matter what you do. Only happens in full screen. Gave up on full screen since a long time and run in windowed borderless not having such issues.

Disable the new "focus" feature in system settings, should help with the blinking. it did for me. wait till you see the alt tab mess windows let loose on us....ugh

Same issue post windows update, reinstalled drivers and game, cleared appdata, focus disabled, preset windowed, running as admin and still black on char screen and ctd...No such issues with other games so far.
