I don't like the state of thief

Hyperbolic much? You can say the same thing for Rangers. They have no place in a Zerg, 3rd tier for solo roaming because Mesmer is obviously 1st tier and thief is 2nd, and other classes are better at small group roaming as well. So...........

Ranger how ever can actually fight and has a far better chance at winning 1v1 compared to thief, it dosnt need to run off the slightest scratch because they can actually fight back.

Only if it is a sustained damage 1v1 does a Ranger win. Burst, Thief will win every time with their 1 shot from Stealth mechanic. Either they win from the lazy Stealth or they win because they keep resetting until they do.

Yes, ranger does not have good burst...

What the hell happened there ?

This game is seriously going downhill. They're making it an FPS.

Opening Strike means auto crit, stack as much trait/utility/etc, use stealth (x2 for 6s opening option) and well, there you have it.

Note, insta-downing two+ opponents on a sentry point waiting it for cap is for the lols. But honestly, because of this and other class similar builds, ANet can't bring back no-down state week.

Back to thread, Thief is just back to the nigh-bottom of the bell curve again. You either try something else or are pig-headed like me and keep going with it because it feels much better when you succeed (without Deadeye).

If they got all the way to you in stealth then be happy most of their utility and build is put into that and be happy you don't have a glass build for ganking people... you don't right ... so they couldn't one shot you and now all they can really do is run and reset. That's their time they're wasting. Otherwise if you let 3-4 seconds of stealth creep all the way to you then that's on you.

It's really not all that newThe average ranger is really, really bad and they drive the curve down.
