How come I read that Reapers are super durable? I’ve been playing reaper and get destroyed

Hey! So recently got back into the game, leveled my necro in 2 days bc of quarantine lmao. But anyways, I love the reaper, but I die so quickly. I’m running berserker stats, but I’ve been reading even with those stats reapers can survive a whole lot. I’m running a power greatsword build from meta battle, and most of the spec is leveled. Any tips on how you survive?

What mode are you playing in? In WvW and PvP, where power damage was just drastically nerfed, Reaper and Necro can survive very well.

If this is for PvE, then use your blinds and sources of weakness to mitigate damage. Pop into Shroud to burst, pop out after 10s, use Soul Eater to keep your health up.

Blighter's Boon with the Spite Traitline can keep you alive very well. I ran that along with Blood magic and got whispers from people lauding my 1vX fighting before last balance patch. Haven't ran that build since the patch, but I suspect that it would do well.

I wouldn't count to much on weakness in PvE if I were you.

People say that reaper is more durable because it does have a lot of health and the shroud that give him even more health while other profession generally don't have as much health and don't slot defensive skills in PvE.

The better way to play is still to be careful and not take damage that you can avoid, just like other professions.

While this is still true putting weakness on the mobs will mitigate the damage he can't avoid.

@"Rantber.5901" Try the Death Magic traitline if you need more Defense.Training wheels: http://gw2skills.net/editor/?PSgAYFlJw4YOMGWJOyOuNLA-zRIURUxfGBKFKVF4zpRAzAA-e

You should dodge and if you can walk out of the red circles. If you can't, use blind and weakness. You can use the blinds to give you a window to face tank and push your DPS hard, but you'll have to kite after that or abuse your pulls, fears, and stuns.

I put Berserker's gear in the first link, because well you should run that anyway and Death Magic should provide you with a good amount of toughness and protection. The second link is Valkyrie's gear mostly just for min maxing, you'll get a large amount of precision and crit chance when in shroud and putting vulnerability on the foe so you can take more Vitality. This is so have a larger shroud pool. You can take full Valkyrie's and Death Magic if you feel you need more tankiness,

why on earth do you use GM spite trait for signets?

A recent patch changed the signet of Undeath so that you get a large amount of lifeforce every few seconds when traited for signets. It makes for a long time in shroud when combined with gluttony in the soul reaping trait line.

Because I forgot to slot Signet of Undeath in one of the utilities

For real though that option was just so OP can get his sea legs.

Dang man thank you for setting those builds up for that’s so cool of you! I actually just swapped blood magic into my build and now I’m surviving just fine. Kill things a little bit slower, but it works out just fine. Thanks so much for the answer friend!

NP. Blood and Death Magic are what you want to survive until you learn things better. I tried to put something a little more balanced in the two options I gave, but as you get more familiar start swapping out for higher DPS stuff like Spite and Soul Reaping.
