zyfore.3041 Posted November 7, 2020 Posted November 7, 2020 Please make the Central Tyria maps more Skyscale friendly by making ledges interactive on map edges for skyscales to perch. It's frustrating flying up to an obvious ledge only to have an invisible wall reject you when all you want to do is perch a minute to survey the land, inventory or TP search. Would add to the experience. Also, could we possibly be able to at least use gliders in the home instance? It would help mobility there; feels too inconvenient without it. It's supposed to feel like home! lol.

Altering one would likely affect the balance of the other. They could change the home instance to match ones in PoF/LWS4 that allow mounts. One big problem would be leaving the instance boundary would be too easy on mounts. It might be to complicated coding wise to make it worth the effort. I think a better option might be to change the Home Portal Stone to popup a list of different home instances and turn Claw Island into a neutral home instance without instance zones or mount restrictions. Basically you would have full access to the map.

Unless you're just inches above landable-onable ground, it will stay stopped and flap.

Climb, climb, or get to seclusion and rest. Flapping in midair, while functional and a great addition to the game, feels like a chore on the skyscale. It's a large part psychological, but so is game experience really. To just go perch somewhere for the task and have an instantly unobstructed view is peaceful and fulfilling. You can screencapture with many more varied backdrops that way. It also allows for more jumping off places to fly high above those older maps as a more substantial reward for having acquired the skyscale. Many extra benefits to it. But most of all, it adds to the older maps, making the game seem more cohesive, like it had forethought to the skyscale mount. Mounts by nature expand the possibilities of exploration, to reach new limits. I love journeying into the older maps with the mounts and benefiting from that effort, but it really comes crashing when you're hit with an invisible wall blocking the detail that is right in front of you, letting you know that you are on a map that just wasn't designed for mounts. When you are investigating and exploring, you expect to go somewhere. Providing a ledge gives a place. It may not seem like much, but it would greatly help. If your expectation is to explore and you are rejected by a wall of nothing preventing your access, well.... it kills the fun so to speak.
Inculpatus cedo.9234 Posted November 9, 2020 Posted November 9, 2020 It might be a good suggestion for newer maps, but, personally, I'd rather the map artists spend their time on new maps/expansion maps. They already went through the older maps a couple of times to place invisible walls to avoid breaking out of maps and being able to cheese Jumping Puzzles, etc.

For sure, but I guess my point was directed at "stop to check inventory or the TP" rather than "look around". It also depends on what you're looking for when you look around. If you want great scenery, sure, land(1). If you're looking around to check the best route to Destination X, just stop and flap. And yeah, invisible walls are a problem anyway. They should at least be placed so that they allow you to land on the edge of an edge-of-world clifftop, so you can use the cliff to gain extra height before you fly back into the main part of the map.(1) Except that there's a few places where you can see great stuff from up high only if you stop and flap.
Solanum.6983 Posted November 10, 2020 Posted November 10, 2020 I run into the same problem with Griffon all the time, It can be pretty annoying trying to fly griffon trough those starter areas only to faceplant an invisible wall and loose all momentum.I feel like the core Maps could use an Update, Not only for mount purposes but also visually to show what the game has to offer to new players. There's plenty of assets available from the past few years.
sasya neko.1985 Posted November 11, 2020 Posted November 11, 2020 i rather want the old maps RPG friendly, the skyscale is already an annoyance enough.
