New Bagtype: Tools

Recommended Posts

While you can already have a dedicated bag for this, I would welcome a tool belt/box.  I have permanent tools and salvage o matics but it would be nice for alts who often have salvage kits since I haven't invested in that many shared slots.  Make them faster to organize.

Some players might not like the thought of it taking up a whole bag space, but for new players or those who don't have QoL invested yet, it would make an interesting option.

A bag for each?  One for picks? One for salvage kits? One for axes?  Etc.?

That would take up a lot of bag slots.

If it's just one bag for all, it's not like those are items that automatically enter your inventory whilst completing content, for the most part.

Seems pretty easy to just place them in one bag you've dedicated to them.

I keep a salvage kit in my first inventory bag; I equip Gathering Tools from the Hero Equipment panel (no need to look for them in inventory).

It's not something I would use but I suppose some players might find it useful. I mean we have bags to sort different types of equipment, plus ones for crafting materials and junk items, so ones for tools could be useful.

The bag wouldn't have to be just for that. All the specialised bags can hold other items too and when all the bags above them are full they'll be used to collect drops just like a normal bag. It just narrows down where to look for that type of item.

What do you thing about a new bagtype that would sort tools like salvage kits, picks, axes and sickles to have them grouped nicely?

I think besides a shared inventory slot for these, which are very convenient, the only thing I would suggest Anet do is similar to gw1 in adding a 4 slot tool belt to all characters. Where players can choose to store 1 extra gathering tool of each type and 1 salvage kit of any type.

It WOULDN'T get rid of the QoL of shared inventory slots, since each item stored on the "tool belt" would be character specific, and those slots would purely be for tools and a kit.

Other than that, no I don't think specific bags for holding tools and kits is a necessity. It takes away from the value of specific Black Lion goodies like infinite Merchant and such, it takes away from the passes like Mistlock Sanctuary. It also takes away from unlocking and upgrading your Guild Halls. Before I got more shared inventory slots I didn't move my infinite gathering tools all the time, so on alts I'd be doing random things on I'd just mistlock port or GH port to get more gathering tools/vendor when I needed.

I think this more or less comes down to a personal issue maybe? Not sure if you have any passes or a guild hall with certain merchant vendors or not? If you don't the mistlock pass is nice, especially if you like doing fractals, or finding a guild with a guild hall maybe? Also having a guild can be beneficial to you outside of a vendor. I typically will put mystic salvage kits in both a shared inventory slot as well as a "invisible bag"  on ea character so they don't get moved around if I do compact my inventory.

I have a couple sets of infinite gathering tools that I just shuffle around in shared inventory now as well and I know a ton more players do as well... I guess what I'm more or less getting at is it's not much of a problem for the community as a whole that Anet would add such an item to the game.
