Oh... you mean to the stuff that no one ever uses. Got it.

Rending Claws: Increased damage by 13%.Ghastly Claws: Increased damage by 11%.Unholy Feast: Increased damage by 10%.Dhuumfire: Fixed a bug that prevented this trait from inflicting burning when multiple scourge profession skills were activated at the same time.Death's Embrace: Increased vulnerability stacks from 1 to 5 and increased duration from 5 seconds to 8 seconds. Increased enemy health threshold from 33% to 50%. Vulnerability can now only be applied to the same foe once every 10 seconds.Unholy Fervor: This trait has been reworked and renamed Dread. It now causes fear you apply to also inflict 10 stacks of vulnerability for 5 seconds. It also causes attacks against foes inflicted with fear to deal 20% more damage.Spiteful Talisman: This trait now reduces the recharge time of axe skills in addition to focus skills.

increase .... increase ... increase.... its anet new meta buff for necro

Dhuumfire: Fixed a bug that prevented this trait from inflicting burning when multiple scourge profession skills were activated at the same time.I suppose you could look at this as a buff, but I don't. This merely a fix to something that wasn't functioning that should have been. It will simply now have the same effect as when the scourge pauses between activating their f-skills. There really shouldn't be a noticeable difference.

The rest are just soft of 'meh.' Necro's dish out vulnerability pretty well already so adding more isn't amazing. 'Dread' might see some play if people want to try Fearmancer, but I think Chill of Death is still going to be the go to in that set of options. And Spiteful Talisman rarely ever sees use, though we'll see if this changes it.

Rending Claws, Ghastly Claws, and Unholy feast are axe skills, and are only used by power reaper. Which isn't meta in any way. Death's Embrance is a spite trait, and spite is only used by Reaper.

The new Dread trait is trash in all game modes. Spiteful Talisman is still never going to be taken in either PvP and WvW, and it's only taken in PvE on power reapers which are still bad in PvE.

The only benefit to Scourge that came in this patch was the barrier scaling, and the Dhummfire fix.

Exactly. I don't get why people see something that might resemble a buff and go crazy.

The only significant buffs I see is barrier and Dhuumfire as well. Barrier buffed? Very nice for Scourge, and since its damage was the problem, not its tankyness, it makes sense to give it a bit of sustain/support when it lost some of its damage. As for Dhuumfire... it was a fix. Spamming all Shroud skills for extra burns leaves you with nothing to defend yourself with /shrug

Please, come show your complete lack of knowledge of necro more.

The ax buffs are precisely: 3%, 1% and 0% for ax auto, ax 2, and ax 3. The old version of Unholy Martyr had a 10% buff to ax damage if the foe had Vulnerability, that old 10% buff was made baseline with essentially null buffs for a weapon that is some 30% weaker than all other similar weapons.

Instead, Necro now has a buff to damage while things are feared. Great in theory, considering that on paper, Necro has 5 sources of fear.
In practice, however:

  • Source 1 is a shroud ability, admittedly useful.
  • Source 2 is Spectral Wall, which sits on a rather long CD, even when traited with a perk in Soul Reaping and gives a pitiful duration, and to boot said trait directly competes with the fear duration trait.
  • Source 3 is a Fall damage trait in Curses.
  • Source 4 is a competing trait with the Spectral ability CD in Soul Reaping, and literally involves dying.
  • Source 5 is a downstate ability

So, of those 5 sources, 1 is fall damage, two require downstate, 1 is a wall that has at best a 32 sec CD for 7 sec duration and requires enemies to pass through it, but means that you lose fear duration, and finally one is a shroud-based ability, which is the only one in the list that is reliable and at all viable. For those not paying attention, notice that you need three core necro trait lines to maximize fear, Spite, Curses and Soul Reaping

Dhuumfire: That is them fixing a bug that was noticed on the beta weekend by the community, only took them 4 months.

Death's Embrace is a nerf, since it used to apply 5 sec vuln on every hit below 25%, now it will apply 5 vuln for 8 seconds every 10 seconds from below 50%.Unholy Fervor(now Dread) just makes the single reliable source of fear from necro add vuln, and adds a 20% bonus damage if the target is feared, which, as already determined, there is only one reliable source of fear for any necro spec.

The last one is them just moving the AX CD bonus from one trait to another.

The ax buffs are precisely: 3%, 1% and 0% for ax auto, ax 2, and ax 3.Only iff you took the trait before. If you didnt the buffs to axe are far more substantial. Especially as its trait no longer competes with awaken the pain or CoD.

Staff 5 and corrupting stab are missing from this list.

Targets below 33% are either going to die in the next two hits, or are in the process of popping their heals & defensives.

Moving the health threshold up to 50% is a significant increase in usefulness of the trait. Moreover getting 5 vuln upfront is generally going to be better than 1 vuln per hit.

which, as already determined, there is only one reliable source of fear for any necro spec. You forgot staff 5 and stability corruption. Dread is still a bad trait though.

You missed staff 5 and Reaper's Protection. Reaper's Protection is the only source of Fear a Necro has that is longer than a 1 second base, and they're disabled! Once you factor in aftercast for Staff 5 and reaper's Shroud 3, you're looking at only .5-.25 seconds where the necro can actually use that 20% damage buff.

If you lose to a necro that uses staff, I'm sorry, go play another game. Staff 5 is pitiful, it has a 1 second fear on a 32 second cooldown, and even has a cast time. Nothing on staff is even worth mentioning.

I didn't forget reaper's protection. That's the "Shroud ability". Core necro gets an insta-cast single target on 3, reaper gets a 1/2 second cast time as a secondary skill on 3, and Scourge has it on 4.
