change stealth

Hi anet it's time for you guys to change stealth, i'm tired of getting 1 shotted by thiefs in wvw just because i can't dodge what i can't see. Im talking about thiefs literally waiting for ppl to come by and backstab them for 15-18k on daredevil. Mesmers can stealth and 1 shot too but you can see the burst damage coming if the mesmer is in stealth since they need clones up and mirrorblade animation is visible even when the mesmer is stealth. My point is that mesmers have to use 3+ skills to even 1 shot wich gives space for counterplay since you can see burst coming from stealth, thief only needs 1 skill for the 1 shot and you can't even see the burst coming from stealth. Ofcourse other classes can go stealth too but they can't 1 shot with 1 skill that isn't even visible.

So can you just change this, look at other MMO's if you're clueless but this is just not fun if there is no counterplay to it. Either make thief backstab visible when they're stealth so ppl can actually counter them or change stealth, like give ppl in stealth damage over time or idk

    Exactly and it's been like this for way too long without any changes to stealth. I really believe a good amount of damage over time when ppl are in stealth longer then 2 seconds should fix that problem. Ofcourse shadow's rejuvenation should get nerfed too because at the moment perma stealth thiefs get rewarded for going stealth? Give me a reason why i shouldn't play thief in wvw for roaming lol

    Stealth is where it needs to be in the cheese fest that the game is these days, if it was nerfed thieves that rely on stealth as a defensive and offensive mechanic would be free food. If games gets major overhaul and majorly depowercrept and hopefully somewhat depowercheesed than think about nerfing stealth or changing it.

    The problem is that was designed to work way to easy while it’s counters are just bad coding as some skill following target trough stealth.

    Yeah but what u just described is the thief class as a whole. A class created and designed to utilize gimmicks to aply damage. This is the whole reason why in every single mmo forum page the rogue class of that mmo gets these exact complaints. Did u think this mmo would be a different approach to the archetype?
    Also all that aside every class has a few bandwagon meta builds that relies on gimmicky cheese rotations that everyone applies. I can just admit it lol. When I play dp thief I'm almost permastealth and my back stabs either one shot or close to most specs other than bunker builds and I kno its cheese but its effective for me just like the builds and rotations others use. If u seriously think about the classes/ builds uve fought recently u can't tell me they all don't try and use some cheese gimmick rotation. It's what gw2 is now. Players just don't want to admit that their build and rotations are cheese filled as well, just as everyone is OP but their class lol

    I somewhat agree with OP, the way stealth is implemented in GW2 makes for toxic gameplay. The power creep has only made it worse. The thing is that to change stealth they will need to rebuild every class that relies on it heavily from the ground up. I doubt it will ever happen. We'll see what the next balance patch brings in terms of toning down overall damage in competitive modes. I hope they look into how to fix the build template abuse in WvW. Build for perma stealth weak dps, sneak up on target, click click to change to a high DPS burst build, 1 shot from stealth, get OoC and click click back into perma stealth. I'm suing the perma stealth example here but every class is abusing templates at the moment.

    Lol anets confused on thief I think to be honest. Caltrops, smoke screen, trait names at least most and the picks in trickery line and crit strikes are mostly all of ninja's, rfi,withdrawl, shadowstep , actually most utility skills plus elite are pics of ninja's lol and one elite spawn what are clearly ninja's and puts thief above thier heads lol and ninja's were stealth...... . No? Lol

    ANET imo with the skill stuff should rework thief be more based on rouge gameplay, they tried to make an improved easier to play version of gw1 canthan assassin.

    Anet to remake gw1 assassin should come on rev actually some sorta Nika and Vizu legends with daggers.

    Thief needs to behave more like a rouge.

    Problem with thief is just the same as any other gimmick gameplay and fixing this behavior is only good for the game.

    Theres a huge difference about what I was complaining about,weaver can have crazy sustain thru evades barriers etc all while bursting and farting out burns that burst hard for the sustain they have. It's funny as time went on I was far from only one who believes that as alot of higher tier players now state ele being top sidenoder or strongest spec(weaver) in the game lol.
    This falls into the thief op and weavers not which is ur class is OP and mines not territory:) so...

    The problem is that was designed to work way to easy while it’s counters are just bad coding as some skill following target trough stealth.

    It can work how it works but the way that was added to create damage gimmicks its the issue.

    Yeah but what u just described is the thief class as a whole. A class created and designed to utilize gimmicks to aply damage. This is the whole reason why in every single mmo forum page the rogue class of that mmo gets these exact complaints. Did u think this mmo would be a different approach to the archetype?

When I play dp thief I'm almost permastealth and my back stabs either one shot or close to most specs other than bunker builds and I kno its cheese but its effective for me just like the builds and rotations others use.     Exactly! No matter what class u play in the state the games in everyone rolls the cheesiest build and uses the cheesiest rotations possible even if it's less fun to use than others because it's what needs to be played to be effective against all the other cheese being played, thieves are no different

    Stealth is where it needs to be in the cheese fest that the game is these days, if it was nerfed thieves that rely on stealth as a defensive and offensive mechanic would be free food. If games gets major overhaul and majorly depowercrept and hopefully somewhat depowercheesed than think about nerfing stealth or changing it.

    Evade spell is your answer to defensive skills .

    Lol anets confused on thief I think to be honest. Caltrops, smoke screen, trait names at least most and the picks in trickery line and crit strikes are mostly all of ninja's, rfi,withdrawl, shadowstep , actually most utility skills plus elite are pics of ninja's lol and one elite spawn what are clearly ninja's and puts thief above thier heads lol and ninja's were stealth...... .     Theres a huge difference about what I was complaining about,weaver can have crazy sustain thru evades barriers etc all while bursting and farting out burns that burst hard for the sustain they have. It's funny as time went on I was far from only one who believes that as alot of higher tier players now state ele being top sidenoder or strongest spec(weaver) in the game lol.

    Or when the d/d thief condition spec was used , did they defend it saying it has only 2 Conditions and its easy to cleanse ? But now they whine about HoT eles single burn Condition and they Quited ?

    True, but meta should be based on gameplay tactics not rush towards cheese builds, even the most cheese builds back in gw1 had counters.

    In gw1 cheese builds needed to work as a team to be cheese, a decent group with game knowledge could stop or reduce enemy cheese performance and put their skill at check.

    Gw2 is rush to cheese, the gap between cheese and acceptable is far to big, wich results in less players skill needed to find overperformance momentum’s most time team work is zero.

    This is how one’s fail at creating a pvp game.

    Nope! I've played weaver,not that hard sry. No excuse to be broken. Also I've stated I think pw is to loaded and skill viability needs to be spread better across thief kits to help eliminate the spammy nature of their playstyle. But in the end pressing one button 3 doesn't matter if a build or skill is broken its broken. Anyway most of the reply's I've gotten from u come of as mostly biased and argumentative and quite frankly ur not really worth arguing with but thanks for trying to turn the thread that way as u can see everyone here was able to disagree and post without trying to troll :)

    Every class has cheese specs and that's ok because the animations still remain visible so there is always counterplay. The problem still is the fact that thiefs can 1 shot with 1 skill out of stealth that isn't visible (no animations) so no counterplay. If they had to use 2 skills to 1 shot (assuming the first skill doesnt hit for 15k+) wich gives maybe 0.5 seconds or less time to counter, I would be ok with it because we atleast would HAVE an option to counter.

If it only took one skill to one shot someone as a thief you'd see a lot more thieves and they'd get seats on the squad bus. Even the good thieves shouldn't one shot unless you built to be one shot, the bad thieves wont even see your counters and blow their whole load right away trying to get something in, and the passable thieves will know it's time to bounce because you had the health and stats to survive a one shot and they'll see you plotting something.

    They do have builds that are very slippery however, and very viable with minimal stealth access/stacking, it's just that stealth is so easy and strong against a very large portion of the player base. If played right, it also means easy escape if the target does know how to play. Which is only an issue in WvW, as sticking in a fight you might lose is the wrong move, and most thieves will just bail from the fight, it is the correct move, but also annoying on the other side.

    The perm stealth builds do need to go, however, thief will need some buffs in other areas to make it viable with other classes, which might be easier or a non issue depending on what happens in the up coming balance patch.

    you're from NA, come EU and you'll see 90% of the players roaming are thief. you talk about squad bus? thief doesnt belong in a zerg.

If it only took one skill to one shot someone as a thief you'd see a lot more thieves and they'd get seats on the squad bus. Even the good thieves shouldn't one shot unless you built to be one shot, the bad thieves wont even see your counters and blow their whole load right away trying to get something in, and the passable thieves will know it's time to bounce because you had the health and stats to survive a one shot and they'll see you plotting something.

    you're from NA, come EU and you'll see only thiefs are left in wvw roaming

    Come to NA, squads on my server at least treat their thieves a little better.

    Stealth is where it needs to be in the cheese fest that the game is these days, if it was nerfed thieves that rely on stealth as a defensive and offensive mechanic would be free food. If games gets major overhaul and majorly depowercrept and hopefully somewhat depowercheesed than think about nerfing stealth or changing it.

    Evade spell is your answer to defensive skills .

    The problem is that was designed to work way to easy while it’s counters are just bad coding as some skill following target trough stealth.

    It can work how it works but the way that was added to create damage gimmicks its the issue.

    Yeah but what u just described is the thief class as a whole. A class created and designed to utilize gimmicks to aply damage. This is the whole reason why in every single mmo forum page the rogue class of that mmo gets these exact complaints. Did u think this mmo would be a different approach to the archetype?
    Also all that aside every class has a few bandwagon meta builds that relies on gimmicky cheese rotations that everyone applies. I can just admit it lol. When I play dp thief I'm almost permastealth and my back stabs either one shot or close to most specs other than bunker builds and I kno its cheese but its effective for me just like the builds and rotations others use. If u seriously think about the classes/ builds uve fought recently u can't tell me they all don't try and use some cheese gimmick rotation. It's what gw2 is now. Players just don't want to admit that their build and rotations are cheese filled as well, just as everyone is OP but their class lol

    Even i started to play lamer builds... if I want to win, condi bunker wining in 1 vs 5 due how easy mobility and condi damage works, and how easy is to condi burst targets.

    Gameplay need to be improved, classes need to do less overall, and thief is not an assassin :p

Caltrops, smoke screen, trait names at least most and the picks in trickery line and crit strikes are mostly all of ninja's, rfi,withdrawl, shadowstep , actually most utility skills plus elite are pics of ninja's lol and one elite spawn what are clearly ninja's and puts thief above thier heads lol and ninja's were stealth...... .     Theres a huge difference about what I was complaining about,weaver can have crazy sustain thru evades barriers etc all while bursting and farting out burns that burst hard for the sustain they have. It's funny as time went on I was far from only one who believes that as alot of higher tier players now state ele being top sidenoder or strongest spec(weaver) in the game lol.
    This falls into the thief op and weavers not which is ur class is OP and mines not territory:) so...

    Theres a reason why the majority whine about thiefs and less about mesmers and weavers .
    Because the 2 latter , you have to play some piano - have some skills :P

    Why when you try to defend you always mention the high lvl players ?

    Nope! I've played weaver,not that hard sry. No excuse to be broken. Also I've stated I think pw is to loaded and skill viability needs to be spread better across thief kits to help eliminate the spammy nature of their playstyle. But in the end pressing one button 3 doesn't matter if a build or skill is broken its broken. Anyway most of the reply's I've gotten from u come of as mostly biased and argumentative and quite frankly ur not really worth arguing with but thanks for trying to turn the thread that way as u can see everyone here was able to disagree and post without trying to troll :)

    I get that it's fun to argue about classes etc, but ur still really into the game and when I was arguing was fun to a point as well. Just cuz u bring it up more than once I did try and uninstall game, if u look under general discussions I asked for help due to when I tried deleting from control panel a error popped up and was told by a few players this happened to them and was told the steps to bypass the error but I never got around to doing it and ended up still jumping on for a match or two every other night or so.
    I get people's issues with thief, I think most thieves do as u know ur being cheesey snd using cheese tactics as ur playing it. U dont think I felt or recognized the cheese of my permastealth backstabs oneshotting alot of classes or close to it out of nowhere? U dont think thief players recognize the cheese of pw spam? Or high evade staff builds? Players of any class arnt that blind and thief players are no different but put aside ur feelings towards thief and think about why the use those builds and tactics and think realistically about other class/build tactics as it's easy to see why. Thief with how it is currently designed wouldn't stand much of a chance against the other classes in a fight if it didn't have access to the cheese tactics that it had and no one wants to always run away. Now add the current state of the game and its cheese across all classes, u think a thief isn't gonna use its cheesiest methods possible? I played condi theif but got bored with its playstyle and yeah it was cheese, I played pw and got bored fast cuz to spammy yet again so played dp but in today's game perma stealth backstabs are the most effective for me cuz if not invisible the kit gets destroyed by the cheese other classes bring. In the end permastealth backstabs gets boring fast to, one cuz it feels super cheese and two because its repedative playstyle which is why the time I do play these days is on warrior cuz I use all its skills and playstyle feels the opposite to me which I find more fun which is subjective of course.
    There's all these posts about thief this and thief that is OP or cheese or change stealth but in the end a lot would have to change in this game if thief were to remain viable with less cheese as other specs can spread just as much cheese, just a different kind.

    what point are you trying to make? that thiefs can't 1 shot without animations from stealth? like idk what you're talking about. are you saying every1 should go 2k toughness and let thiefs do free dmg on you?

    They dont have to change the gameplay
    Just offer some visible animation to counter to .
    You know something to anticipate and dodge , like other claseses or any other game .
    Not like other fool peaople in this thread , that are saying that ''just get some toughness , everything is ok''
    We had that tackic in Vanilia and ppl whined about bunkerwars afterwards

    Absolutely true but in the state of today's game every class has a spec/build that can delete a player with zero skill and little counterplay. Thief is far from being the only one.

    you just dont know how bursts work it seems, i never get 1 shotted by mirage yet i get easily 1 shotted by thief, i wonder why? it's probably becauuse they can 1 shot with 1 skill don't you think so? read the first post, you can see mesmer burst coming FROM stealth so yes just dodge. there's a reason why i dont get 1 shotted by mirages, probably cuz i can see the animations no?

    As WvW is one of the final bastions of stealth gameplay, I think it's okay for them to keep their stealth.

    What isn't fun is being unable to strip them from stealth.

    Honestly, I think Anet should just buff Sniff

    Give it a fairly substantial non-spammable cooldown, make it strip Stealth and apply revealed in an Area following the Warclaw, reduce the affected radius a little bit.

    I mean, if Anet robbed Scrapper of the detection pulse, I think this is the least they can do to compensate.

    If I play a stupid build, I deserve to die.
    If I beat people on a stupid build, I deserve to get away with it.

    Maybe adding CD to some skills and/or bringing exhaustion mechanic back once again.

    If a thief keeps using burst to fast starts generating exaution where thief energy bar becomes harder to gain tick and as less total.

    This or adding CD to skills.

    Permastealth is definitely cheese but so is 90% of the builds and rotations people use on their preferred class so.... permastealth is just king of the hill in the cheese mountain that is gw2 these days.     So you agree that the game is full of cheese builds and permastealth(thieves) is king of the kill of cheese builds, but nothing should be done to the king of the hill cheese build because you believe it's not the one magical fix it all the game needs.... Broaden your views? A lot of things obviously need to be adjusted/tweaked/fixed and should be looked at some point, the massive balance patch for damage and support is already under way, doesn't mean other things shouldn't be looked at including stealth game play. Other games have implemented stealth/invis game play much better than this game has.

    IMO as a mesmer main, stealth should be fully removed from the game if they can't be bothered to balance advantages and limitations properly. Permastealth thief with portal running around keeps, sneak gyro adjusted multiple times on duration and cooldowns... 7 years after release, they still don't have a clue.

    Stealth is where it needs to be in the cheese fest that the game is these days, if it was nerfed thieves that rely on stealth as a defensive and offensive mechanic would be free food. If games gets major overhaul and majorly depowercrept and hopefully somewhat depowercheesed than think about nerfing stealth or changing it.

    ooh, those poor thieves. Without stealth they might actually be forced to be good.

    It is not that they are quick and hard to catch in the first place.

    Stealth needs to be removed.
